Kelly Johnson Top 5 2B?

Post by Gekko » Wed Mar 21, 2012 10:09 am

I'll call it now. Kelly Johnson will be one of the biggest value selections on draft day. Hitting 2nd, is 25hr, 20sb, 90-100 runs, a possibility? And you can currently get this guy in a double digit round? Amazing!

From Rotoworld...
Kelly Johnson is slated to bat second in the Blue Jays' lineup this season.
Johnson batted sixth in 16 out of 32 starts after being acquired by the Blue Jays last August, but his fantasy value would get a nice little boost hitting in front of slugger Jose Bautista. The 30-year-old batted just .222/.304/.413 last season, but he still managed to collect 21 homers, 58 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Bam!
There it is!
Thanks Mark, I'd thought you lost your edge :)

Good karma with Johnson...Plays 2nd, hits 2nd, and our own KJ finished 2nd in the overall last year.

ya- wow, out of retirement. i think this is a better plan- wait till right before the drafts. sort of a fantasy blitzkrieg if you will. you go mark.

Kelly Johnson, like Aaron Hill, is a model of inconsistancy. Will he bat .220 or .280? He seemed to hit a lot of homers in Arizona, but who knows what you are gonna get. Definitely upside is 8th round, but much higher would be a very risky play. Consistancy has put Howie Kendrick in the top 5 2B, even though he doesn't do anything all that great except 15 HR's 15 SBs and .280-.300 batting average every year. Its all about risk-reward and how much risk are you willing to take. I like the KJ risk, thus I have drafted him in 4 leagues. I have stayed away from Aaron Hill, since I truly believe he will go down in history as a the ultimate 1 year wonder... though looking closer at Aaron's stats, I didn't have him last year and just noticed he had 21 SB's. Where the heck did that come from? If Aaron can do 20-20, then he is being drafted too low as well.

You do realize that that .224 BA vs. LHP was better than he hit against RHP?

And that for his career he has a .287 AVG vs. LHP compared to .249 vs. RHP??

You should spend more time doing research and less trolling the message boards.

wow a smart guy in the house . he hit .221 vs rp / .224 vs left . but he had 393ab vs 152ab vs left . this is because is but was always on the bench vs leftys . and they played r roberts at 2nd base . anything else i can bring u up to speed with smart guy .

not to pile on- but we only need to go back 1 year to see that .310 against lefties- not very far. also- all hitters get less ab's against lefties because , i don't know, there seem to be way more righty pitchers.

i think most people will agree there is a good chance KJ will have more hr and sb than let's say kendrick. batting avg has to favor kendrick. runs and rbis are a little closer.

in KJ's six seasons he scored more than 85 runs 3 times. in Kendrick's six seasons only 1.
in KJ's six seasons he had more than 65 rbis 3 times. in kendrick's six seasons only 1.

i'm not saying kendrick shouldn't be taken later, just asking why KJ is going SEVEN rounds later than kendrick.

This is a kinder/gentler Gekko fellow. He has started late this year. I have to admit, I like hearing the spin.

Kelly Johnson is what he is. A plus MI for counting stats who will drive you NUTS when he goes 1-fer-the world, so you sit him and he begins lighting it up again. If you draft/buy him, you should get a free year-long supply of aluminum hydroxide/ magnesium hydroxide (d.b.a. Maalox)!

Slow draft 47 --- I took Johnson and Hill in back to back rounds. So I am expecting great things from both!

Kelly Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI against the Phillies on Thursday.
