Re: Countdown to the NFBC
Love the fact you added Gary Carter to #8! When Dawson was in Montreal, he wore #10 because Carter already had #8! Thanks for the shout out Glenn, you have done your duty!

Thanks again Glenn for adding Gary Carter's picture. The Kid was " the" face of the Expos franchise then and will always be remembered as one of the best catchers in the game.Winston's Empire wrote:Love the fact you added Gary Carter to #8! Re: Countdown to the NFBC
Only 7 Days, yes one more week, 'til the start of our NFBC live drafts and auctions!!

This year, I'll be starting my live draft season with a Super out in Mahwah, created by someone who shares the initials with the late great Mickey Mantle, Mikey "The Mouth" Massotto. Mantle has gone down in history as one of baseball's all time greatest players despite some personal flaws and demons. Massotto shares this as well with Mantle, no not the great player part
, but certainly Mikey's got more than his share of flaws and demons.
In all seriousness, Mikey deserves some serious credit here. He's pulled off something that not even Greg has managed to achieve in the 9 year history of the NFBC. He's brought together 15 players, all from the same region, to pony up some serious dough and put their skills up against each other in a Super.....each one of them there LIVE. Not only that, the players he's managed to recruit are some of the most revered and successful in our hobby, Jupinka, Magner, Gillis, Deterra, Fleming, Edelman, Thelen, Sousa, Anthony, Ericson, Lins, Mitlof, Perlmutter, Lemke, and on and on.....oh yeah, and Mikey will be there too.
Still you need to remember Mikey, greatness doesn't happen by association or because you're in the same room with greatness, you actually have to beat these guys.

All kidding aside, Mikey's done a great job here. Not only has he brought this group together, but has further added to the event feel of this league by obtaining a league trophy, league T-shirts, our own personal scantily dressed facilitator, as well as setting up post-draft dinner & drinks, and even creating a nice twist to the draft itself with Live "Iron Balls" KDS!!!
But still, as we get closer to the Inaugural MtM NY Metropolitan Invitational Super Event, it's time to stop thinking about the good time and partying we'll be doing.......

Or how we plan on chatting up the facilitator......

And get down to some serious preparation in the hopes of hitting a home run against this level of competition.....

Because none of us want to leave this league when it's all said and done with nothing but exhaustion and disappointment.

So once again, great great job Mikey. One week 'til I get to challenge myself against some of the best this contest has to offer.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
Only 6 Days left 'til we get to take our seats at the first live NFBC drafts and auctions of 2012.

There will be many great players ready to take their swings at these drafts.....

Some even with Hall of Fame caliber resumes.....

(This one's for Joe Money.
)
But when all is said and done for this season, only one of us can be called The Man.

Only 6 Days left 'til we start to find out who that will be.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
With only 5 Days left 'til the start of the NFBC live drafts and auctions, it's getting more and more difficult to keep from getting overexcited.....

Still we need to try to relax, because for those of us who can keep our cool and do well under the pressure.....

The big check could be waiting for us at the end.

Just 5 Days left 'til the excitement of walking into those live draft rooms is here.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
Only 4 Days left 'til the start of the NFBC live drafts and auctions.

The time for quiet preparation is over.....

Because in just those short few days, we'll be surrounded at draft tables by some of the greatest players in our game....

Where we'll put our skills up against theirs no matter how much success they've achieved in the past.....

To prove that we are just as great, and it our skills that they should be in awe of......

(Magner at the MtM with his trusty Polaroid in tow, asking me for yet another autographed picture before heading off to ravage the buffet table.
)

Only 4 Days left 'til those of us lucky enough to test our skills against the best get the opportunity to do so.
See you all Friday in Mahwah boys.

Only 3 Days left 'til the NFBC live drafts and auctions......

Where we'll look to put together a roster of the best hitters......

With the best pitchers.......

(Hear that Massotto? Hopefully this year you've learned there are pitching categories also.
)
So when all is said and done.......

We'll be kings of the Fantasy Baseball world.

Only 3 Days 'til we start to find out who'll be crowned this year.

I've said it before and I will say it again...an amazing set of posts here. Very enjoyable and really helped build the excitement. Thanks for the work my friend.

And they ain't never been nobody like the Babe!

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Thanks Wayne, it was a blast putting together. Even the Mets-envy from the misguided Cubs, Phils, and Yanks fans who'd visit this thread added to the fun.
Now the real fun starts in just a few more days. Catch you in Vegas next week my friend.

Max, I think you posted that picture in the wrong forum. This is a fantasy baseball thread, not a thread about Max's fantasies.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
Only 2 Days left 'til the NFBC live drafts and auctions and our next opportunity to win an NFBC Overall Championship.

What awaits those who become Champions?

Fame.....

Fortune.....

And ummmm, if you win enough of them......

Yeah....and some think it was winning another Championship that had Jeter smiling here.
Only 2 Days left 'til your next chance to achieve Fame, Fortune, and Minka Kelly.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
glen- great job. i was thinking , as I watch wrights adp go into the 40's that you should consider drafting in chi town and st louis next year. plenty of ny metro area guys drafting in vegas and ny/nj to take Met guys way too high. i don't think you are good enough- like lindy is- to draft a stiff like wright in the 1st round, and spot the field a 1st round pick. I don't think wright or davis get drafted this weekend in st louis. Probably waiver wire guys for us. Wouldn't you love to get wright in round 10 or so? Just food for thought for next year.

Re: Countdown to the NFBC
ONLY ONE MORE DAY!!!

Appropriately with the greatest play of the greatest season in the long great history of our national pastime
, our Countdown comes to its inevitable close. I've had a lot of fun with this NFBC preseason, more than with any preseason during my 3 year run with the contest. Posting these pictures for 100 (or errrr 101
) days, trash talking (or is it trash posting?
) with buds Max, Nelson, Massotto, Jupinka, Magner, the Anthony's, a few others, on this thread, the MtM thread, the 1000 slow thread, a few other threads
, taking part in great online drafts like the 1000 slow, the NFBCK, a Fast/Slow, hooking up with the MtM boys at First Pitch, following and then signing up last minute for wayyyyy too many drafts
, making plans for my first NFBC in Vegas, and on and on. It's been a blast of a preseason. Tomorrow though, the real fun starts. Tomorrow and over the next two weekends, I'll take part in the events that are the essence of the NFBC. The Live Drafts and Auctions, the High Stakes Leagues, the Overall Championships, and mostly, the Main Event. One or all of these are the reasons most of us are part of the NFBC. It's been a long wait, but it's finally here.
Good luck everyone in all your drafts and auctions, whether live or online, whether in Vegas, Mahwah, St. Louis, New York, Chicago, or on your laptop. The best part of our season is here. Enjoy it.

Great Countdown Glenn! Collectively, we all know you could have improved it with More Cubs ands less Mets, but your efforts and humor get you a pass this time!

Great job Glenn! The Countdown has been a lot of fun and created so much good
karma with everybody that took the time to check in everyday. The coolest thing
about the conclusion is that the time is upon us to make these picks for real.
Looking forward to tomorrow evening. Giving the CHIP a half a day in school, found
somebody to cover my scheduled shift. All systems go. See you tomorrow in
Mahwah. Safe travels...............at least until you sit DOWN to make that first selection!
