Rich Harden and Ben Sheets...

What round in NFBC?

Maybe better question is what pick #?

20? 40? 60?

This year there are arguably 3-4 guys going in the first round of NFBC drafts that did not go in any drafts first 60 picks last year.

Look in to a crystal ball and tell me that if the trend repeats in 07 who those guys are?

Joe: I think Mota. Betancourt has had the gig before and never sucessfully held on. Mota has the stuff - he was very solid towards end of last year - and I think he will get first shot. He'd be my pick for Wickman insurance. But Wickman's better than you think. I know - his underlying numbers are a bit scary, but he's a gutty guy and he was a rock solid closer before the arm trouble too. I think he is one of the safer "crappy closers" if that makes sense. Like, I like him more than Todd Jones, Weathers, Borowski, those types....

And nothing yet from Spring Training. A big rule of thumb I have is never make a decision until I absolutely have to. I am doing LABR this weekend, so I'll have to make some decisions then, but for purposes here, why move a guy up this week when he might go down next? Gather as much info as possible before making a decison - keepers, drafting, trading, etc.

UFS - No, Jenks wasn't closer at time of trade. He wasn't even the #2 guy. Hermanson was closer at time of trade. And I think 300 AB for Gathright and no, he does not get traded. He's Maddon's type of guy.

Chest - I would not have laughed at all. I would have patted the guy on the back, said good pick, smiled to myself and thought, well, there's one a-hole I don't have to worry about. For 1 k, let him make all the dumb picks he wants.

My guess is Sheets goes before Harden but I actually like Harden a little more. Both are great and neither should still be available in round 7. My guess is they go in round 5 somewhere - Sheets maybe in round 4.

Bjork and Chest - LOL. Good for both of you guys. Smack is what makes the world go 'round. And I appreciate you having my back Chest, but it's all good. When you put yourself out there as an "expert" that comes with the territory. Every move is scrutinized and, if you screw up, criticized. I just wish Sam had given the proper details about the deal - no one in Tout gave it a second glance as lopsided one way or the other. It did work out for Sam and I moved up a little.

Oh, Chest... forgot that last question.

Yes, the trend will continue. In 07 and every year that we play fantasy baseball. It's inevitable - we have to be reactive by nature.

I think Rickie Weeks is this year's Chase Utley. I have already discussed my love of Mike Jacobs. Chris Shelton is a guy I am very high on for this kind of discussion....

Brandon Wood I think - I spoke ot Scoscia of the air in LA - "Puljols kind of special" was the phrase he used in describing Wood...

Oh, and after a year in Petco, folks will be all over themselves for Chris Young.

Chest:

Sorry, I misread your question. I thought you were asking for guys that would be drafted next year in forst 60 picks (1st four rounds) that wouldn't be this year. I don't think Shelton, Jacobs, etc are first round picks next year at all. I think they could be top 60 picks.

Weeks is special however and Wood has that potential.

Christina Applegate is a totally great girl. Fun, down to earth, a chick you'd dig just having a beer with.

Katey Sagal is the C word.

At least that was my impression the year I spent with them. Would work with Christina again in a heartbeat. Would need a lot of money and heavy medication to go near Katey.

Kenji Johjima? Is he a Hideki or a Kazuo? And who is the class of the 2nd teir closers?

Hey Matt!

I've got a "Best Career" bet of $500.00 with my friend...He has Mark Prior...I've got Rich Harden...total stats for career...who would you guess has the best one when they both hang it up..?

Thanks...loved your website back a few years...when you upgraded...it bogged down my stone aged dial up!

Faustino also did very well, yes. And by the way, a totally great guy as well. You'd like him a lot if you met him. And actually talented, believ it or not. Very very funny.

When you see rehearsals, you know who has got it and who is being helped by editing quite a bit. Faustino has chops.

Chest: Yes, I think Soriano starts the year in Washington. But that is going to be a bad situation I think. I am staying far away from him this year. I could see an Artest type deal where they bench/suspend him.... Much safer picks than him at the place where you'd have to draft him to get him, you know? Rather have Utley or Kent even Marcus Giles for a NL Only 2b than him due to the risk factor there.

Our hour's about up and I wanted to thank Matt for taking time out of his schedule not once but twice this week in order to chat with our NFBC participants. Much appreciated and very entertaining as always, Matt.

In order...

Seriously, Ted McGinley ("Jefferson") is the nicest man you'd ever meet. Truly awesome guy. And he's been working non-stop for 25 years.

I believe in Kenji. Closer to Hideki than Kaz...

Lance, thanks for the props on the site. We're doing a whole new redesign right now that will launch in Mid March - much lighter with a bunch of cool, free stats services, articles, etc... lotta goodies - so those with dial-up will be able to get it loaded quickly as well. Check back with us then.

2nd tier closers? Well, like I said, I like Wickman. Fuentes is legit. Same for Jenks.

I think MacDougal could be okay this year, believe it or not and I have seen Benitez falling really far. He'll be a stud as usual.

Not sure how you define 2nd tier... like, is Eddie Guardado 2nd tier this year? If so, like him.

Not a fan of Valverde, T Jones, Weathers or Dempster.

matt - you are the MAN. if felix is #1 in 2007, that means this year's numbers will make him that. thanks.
