The Shitlist

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon Mar 26, 2012 11:19 am

I got a PM suggesting that I not mention players names in posts till all drafts are done.
WHAT?
These players are not secrets! They've been around for years. Whether I give my opinion three weeks ago or now, the players do not change.
I doubt that folks will now move Granderson up their lists simply because I think he'll repeat his numbers.

Last week, I talked a lot about upcoming drafts with Bob Mazur. In short, Bob knows his stuff.
He's a three time winner in the NFBC.
In our conversations, we shared what every fantasy drafter owns. Our shitlist.
Every owner has one, but few talk about it.
A player can get on your shitlist because of a number of things.
He may have killed you in the past.
He may have done something off the field that cannot be forgiven.
He may be a jerk. He may be lazy. A suspected boozer. A PED suspect.
Anything.

Colby Rasmus is a shitlister for me.
When Rasmus came up, I thought he was a toolsy player who could be a fantasy dream.
He's blamed hitting coaches, his dad, Tony LaRussa, the Cardinals, whoever.
It's never HIM.
He has never lived up to his potential.
He reminds me of a past shitlister.
It's only fitting that as JD Drew leaves the game and thus, my shitlist, that Rasmus take his place.
Like Drew, Rasmus will probably put it all together and have one great year.
And like Drew, that one great year and potential for others will make him a bunch of money.
Good for him and good for the guy that drafts him that year.
It won't be me.

One more note....
I'm not playing strategy with these postings. What I write is what I feel.
I own Granderson in a couple of drafts where I drafted from the back end.
Rasmus is not, and will not be on any of my teams this year.

And before I get a PM from my friend once again, I doubt that drafters will avoid Rasmus only because he is on my shitlist.
If I made YOUR shitlist because of it, so be it :D

Believe it or not, I don't have a shit list. When I decided I was going to go from just having fun at this game to being good at it, I ditched the shit list. Mine was long. For ten years I never drafted a Red Sock or a Yankee.

I also know it's silly to get upset about player talk. Yeah, nobody in the NFBC has ever heard about Curtis Granderson. There's a guy I have been tracking all offseason. For sure he was going to be mine for a buck. And the news keeps getting better and better and better. I'll be lucky to get him for $5 now. Know what? Don't care. He's worth more. When I was thinking of him as a dollar player, most had him sub-zero. It'll be easier to wrap my head around that $5 bucks. I already know how he fits in my plan.

Talk is cheap anyway.

Amazing. Most players have at least one ball player that they absolutely, without a doubt never take.
Even if it is just for that year.

I have another. I had him on a Main team a couple of years ago. Although, I have never liked him.
Maybe it is because of his name. His name is the cross of a former star of 'Love Boat' and the barber of a podunk town.
Gavin Floyd.
Fantasy-wise, the guy drives me crazy. He pitches well when I bench him, gets lit up when I don't.
I thought it was just me. But, I went back last year and in five of the six months he had one outing where he gave up at least six runs. Inconsistency is one of the worst diseases that strikes fantasy baseball.
A shitlister for me.

Well sir, I suppose "shitlist" sounds to me like it's personal. Sure there are guys that for one reason or another, I like more or less than the standard public view. And sometimes those reasons include I just think the guy looks and sounds like a dumbass. So I put him in a slot and that slot might be 5 rounds after I know he'll be gone. But that doesn't mean if he's there in that slot I won't pick him. That's his slot.

It ain't poisonal...just buisness.

Steve, can you get me out of this...for old times sake?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
