First Season in OC and Main Event

Post by JNICK » Thu Mar 29, 2012 12:24 pm

Hey everyone! This is my first year with NFBC and I'm in the OC and the Main Event online. The draft for the OC took forever last week, but I felt pretty good about this squad picking from the 3 hole(I'm only posting 25 rounds...)

C - Mauer
C - Y. Molina
1B - Pujols, Trumbo
2B - Kendrick, Ackley
SS - Jeter
3B - E. Encarnacion
OF - G. Stanton, B. Gardner, C. Young, A. Jackson, M. Brantley, C. Heisey (took a flier here in Rd 25)
SP - Halladay, J. Weaver, D. Price, R. Romero, M. Harrison, A. Chapman (also grabbed Dickey in Rd 28)
CP - Hanrahan, Farnsworth, Marmol, F. Cordero (might get a few saves, but I thought it was good value/potential in Rd 19)

I feel like the power numbers will be the most frustrating and hardest to overcome, but I definitely felt like this was a top-3 team in the league after the draft. Who knows, it's my first time. Please "criticize" and let me know if the $50K is a pipe dream with this team...lol

PS - My final 5 rounds were just embarrassing...

Yeah, power numbers look low, but other offensive categories look good. Will need some depth at OF and SP, other than that, very nice. Good luck in the Main.

Solid, not spectacular. Power will be a small issue, you probably would've been better off taking another solid hitter where you took either Weaver or Price; one of Weaver/Price with Halladay would be sufficient as your top end SP. Then you could've probably added a little more depth at SP, you have 5 RP (including Aroldis, who's not starting anymore), I typically try to go with 9 SP/3 RP, somewhere in that range, so 5 RP is probably a little heavy and if you use even 3 of those guys regularly then your Win/K numbers will suffer.

Definitely a better effort than my first NFBC team; you can still win your league with some good management. Good luck on Saturday.

The problem was that Zobrist, Gordon, Strasburg, and Konerko were sandwiched between my rd 4 pick of Weaver and rd 5 pick of Price. Passing on these guys in round 4 gave me a good chance to grab one of them (I really liked Konerko there) in rd 5. However, with all of them off the board, and the selection being Price, Hamels, Greinke, Andrus, Cabrera...I felt like SP (Price) was a solid pick, but I definitely second guessed it the entire night.

My thought process on the closers/ A. Chapman picks was this - I can start 5 SP, 3 CP, and A. Chapman/ T. Clippard/ FA Pickup (2 starts) every week and be in the hunt for top 3-5 position in every pitching category, with a great chance for a top 1-2 position in ERA, WHIP, & SV. The best thing about this strategy was that I didn't have to use any picks in the first 11 rounds on closers and I was able to get great value at other positions instead.

Overall, it was a good learning experience before the Main Event draft this weekend. I'm anxious to see the difference between the 12 and 15 team drafts. I'm drafting from the 6 hole, so it should be very interesting from the start.
Where is my mind?
