First weekend lineups
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but shouldn't all online teams be under the same rules for setting lineups? I think that all teams should be able to change pitchers and hitters for the first week/weekend up until the last online draft on Wednesday (or before the game starts on Wednesday).
It's an unfair advantage that should be corrected, as the difference between 1-2 Ws and 10 strikeouts could end up being the difference at the end of the year. This year's odd schedule shouldn't punish people that drafted prior to the Japan games.

They are under the same rules. If you want to start the stats gained from the 2 japan games you can.glenlake22 wrote:Sorry if this has already been discussed, but shouldn't all online teams be under the same rules for setting lineups? Re: First weekend lineups
I wasn't clear enough.
ALL managers should be able to change pitchers for the first weekend up until a universal deadline. People that drafted prior to the Japan games had to set their FIRST WEEKEND lineup 10 days in advance. People that draft this upcoming Wednesday have a distinct GAMEPLAY advantage that they should not have. The advantages as far as pitching statistics are obvious. Namely, 10 days prior to opening weekend a lot of rotation orders haven't been announced, so a fantasy manager could be missing out on multiple first weekend starts, which at the end of the year could be the difference between winning and losing.
I'm sure Greg and Tom appreciate all of the early drafters as they do not want the responsibility of moderating 50+ drafts in a few days (plus they make more money), but why would one draft early if they are playing under different rules than players that draft at a later date?
With all players paying equal money, they should be playing under equal rules in the pursuit for an overall prize. Am I wrong?

Nobody had to set their line up yet. I have Felix Hernandez in my team but if he had a bad game I can take him out. No line up has to be set before next wednesday's Miami game. In a slow league I had Brandon Allen in my utility slot - he went 0-4 so I took him out. No line ups are locked.

Shorter reply-
No lineups have been set.
ALL lineups will be set this week.
ALL teams are free to use the two games from Japan as they please.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I'm an idiot. I was trying to change my weekend lineup, figuring the first week was locked. Thanks for the help.
Re: First weekend lineups
Don't let them beat you down. You are right. It has nothing to do with lineups. It has to do with when people draft. Colon was a late round chance at best. Now he's a W and 6 K's in the bank. It's completely unfair.glenlake22 wrote:I'm an idiot. I was trying to change my weekend lineup, figuring the first week was locked. Thanks for the help.

Re: First weekend lineups
Everyone knows rules going in and everyone can use players or bench them from Japan if they want. I done see what is unfair there. If someone drafting this weekend wants to bump Colon up because he had a good start, then let them. too small of a sample size in my mind.Zman wrote:Don't let them beat you down. You are right. I think the intent behind the original post was to say, if you draft someone last week like Pineda and last week you put him in your line up and then he end up on minors, I think the author of first post didnt know he could reset entire line up, not just japan games.
Re: First weekend lineups
That does not make the rule right or sensible. I know it's a long shot but a lot of these leagues are decided by very small margins. I'm grabbing that win this week and I'll be one up on everyone who drafted last week.poopytooth wrote:

Re: First weekend lineups
and someone who drafted Marshall as a late round flier weeks ago now has a good closer who will go 10-15 rounds higher. And someone who grabbed Cain round 20+ got a bargain. There are pros and cons to drafting early and late.Zman wrote:That does not make the rule right or sensible. I know it's a long shot but a lot of these leagues are decided by very small margins. Re: First weekend lineups
I agree with you both if that's possible.
We all knew the rules going in. In my opinion, there is a huge advantage to waiting as close to Opening Day as possible to draft. You take a modicum of luck out of play by waiting.
The difference with your Cain analogy is he hasn't put up official stats yet. What zman is saying (and it probably should have been it's own thread since this one was clearly about a misinterpretation of the rules) is second weekend draftees have a significant advantage over first weekend draftees with Colon. It's like a guaranteed streamer. Who among us wouldn't bank a W, 6 K, and 8 great innings a from a bench rounder then play the FAAB game week one?
With these contests coming down to the final day all the time, it is something that could factor in late.

Re: First weekend lineups
Having gone through this argument in football many times over the years, and participated in drafts after opening NFL night, I can say this issue is grossly exaggerated. If you really want Colon, you take him earlier than you normally would. This means you are passing on someone else. Great. I'm fine with someone jumping the gun a couple rounds. Push other players to me that way.Money Men wrote:I agree with you both if that's possible.

Somebody overpai for that fat cow in the auction yesterday, too. That's great, IMO.

You got to pass on someone else to get him. You give up on a prospect our late round sp or of for him. I passed on the rp who won for seattle to grab gerardo parra...maybe it works out, our maybe the win makes the difference...just different values of opinions.Zman wrote:That does not make the rule right or sensible.
