Bryce Harper Called Up
Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
It'll be interesting to see what percentage of his owners put him in the lineup...

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
dough, you gotta think with him destroying AAA that he gets put in right away.
wait, oh, harper, not trout. my bad. yeah, the .250ba and .700ops in high minors must have made this a no brainer for the nats.

He's not ready, but the Nats LF situation is pretty horrid. Dumb move from an organizational perspective re service time and probably a dumb move on the field. The list of serviceable 19 year old position players in the ML over the last 40 years is roughly one - Griffey.

Sitting Coco - will he play 3 games or 3 innings this weekend?
Sitting Ankiel 2x.
Sitting D Barney.
Sitting a guy on the DL.
Agree?

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
Starting him on 1 of 2, don't need him yet on one, but had Eduardo Nunez in at DH on the other and am in decent shape in SB. Figured there's not much Nunez would do that would cause us to be that upset if we left him on the bench; while Harper could easily go 0 for the weekend, he could hit a bomb that would outweigh pretty much anything Nunez would throw in this weekend in 1-2 games.
Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
Awesome, Trout on his way too. Dan, call the Rockies and tell it's time for Arenado. And let's have Bauer for Collmenter!

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
In his third at bat, 2-2 count, next pitch high fastball that he ripped like a laser (line drive double) right over Kemps head and hit the bottom of the CF wall. He ran like a Deer on his first at bat groundout and sure looked like he was going to try for a triple on his double. I never saw a 400 ft line drive like that. next inning in LF, he charges a single, comes up throwing and throws a laser on the fly right to ramos who tags the runner and then drops the ball. There is not another LF in the game with an arm like that. Small sample- check, Rookie- check, 19 years old- check, Cannon arm- check, Above average speed- check, Power- check. Bottom line the kid has the tools and the skills and its only a matter of time until he is a major force in the game. As long as he keeps his head on straight his future is bright. He reminds me of Mantle, shame he is not a Switch hitter. in 7 years he could become the first half a BILLION dollar player.

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
I’ve never seen the kid play before tonight. My only knowledge of him is through articles I’ve read and the few highlights I’ve seen.
Based on that limited exposure, I had a negative impression of Harper going into the game. After watching him play……… I’m not sure how I feel.
Everything about this kid screams “Look at me!” From the haircut, to the flipping off of his helmet as he ran the bases, to the grey painted bat. And make no mistake, it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a bat that color. It reminded me of the first time I ever saw a player use a black painted bat- George Foster mid 70’s.
What also screamed look at me? That bullet of a line drive that he hit to dead center and the way he busted his a$$ down to second base. And then the laser throw he made from left field to home plate on a single to left. His throw beat the runner but Ramos dropped the ball.
I sorta get the feeling that he is a “Pete Rose”. He is gonna play hard…..tonight….tomorrow……every game ……every pitch. And if you don’t like him or the way he plays…… too bad for you because he doesn’t care.
It’s gonna make him a very polarizing player, like Rose was.
Now he just needs to put up the numbers.

he is 19 and lets compare him to alot of other idiots in this game that are alot older...ala d young. this kid lives eats and breathes ...hardball! and people are right... he will be polarizing...why?? because he plays old school! runs hard, slides hard, swings hard! while he plays the games the way it should be played i believe he will be injury prone. i am a bryce fan thru and thru. i root for him and i hope you do too!

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
Two best records in the NL - LA vs WAS.
Kemp vs Harper.
Kershaw vs Strasburg.
Kenley vs Henry.
Dee Gordon vs well, Harper again.
This would make for a great NLCS series.

he's a solid ballplayer, but nothing special at this point.
he's got a big hole in his swing that will be expoited sooner or later. be interesting to see his adjustments.

Not true. Ramos did NOT drop the ball. Hairston pulled an ARod and knocked it out of his glove as he slid thru home plate. Unfortunately the ump didn't see it, but that's what happened.
As far as Harper. WOW!

Re: Bryce Harper Called Up
He is an elite, elite talent. He has a good chance of being the best player in the league in 3 years.
That said, I think it's too soon. He was mediocre in AA/AAA (fantastic for 19 year old, but that's not relevant to now). Need to see how his plate approach holds up, how he deals with tough left handed pitching, how he deals with good sliders and cutters that he didn't see when he was mashing A ball. I don't see him being anything like a difference maker for fantasy purposes this year batting 7th in a mediocre lineup, but I'm usually wrong on these things. He also can't really play CF (neither can Werth, at least not well) so Morse coming back could make things interesting if he's not tearing it up at that point
Disclaimer; As a Phillies fan, I hate his guts and his douchebag act of flipping his helmet on purpose last night so the all the cameras could see his face/hair for his first major league hit only solidifies my hatred. Can't wait till the Yankees sign him in 2018.

Looking again I think you're right Russ. Perhaps I was swayed by the National announcers calling the game. They provided the ARod analogy and it did look like Hairston swiped at Ramos's glove as he slid by. I can't imagine them being biased towards Washington

The kid is 19 years old, anyone that thinks he is some mature grown-up needs to think again. We/most/some of us have all had/have teenagers, would we or anyone hate a 19 year old because of his haircut. I think not. It is in no ones interest to spew hatred, call a 19 yr old teenager a douchebag for flipping his helmet. It is beyond me why so many people think that have a god goven right to judge another person. Judge his performance both on and off the field, but judge him fairly, if you feel you must judge. So far he has not shown himself to be the next Delmon Young, rather, that he may possibly be someone in the future that kids and other teens can look up to and even mature adults.

I know Rodriguez was wild that last inning, throwing balls inside when Ramos was set up outside, but Ramos has got to catch those pitches in a one run game with a runner on third.
Just before the “wild pitch” that scored Uribe, there was a pitch in the dirt that Ramos stopped, but I don’t know how. He was set up outside, the pitch was outside and in the dirt; Ramos actually made the catch backhanded outside of his left knee. He didn’t slide to block it like he should have with the tying run on third, he didn’t even have his glove in the right position; it looked the ball caught him instead of him catching it.

Totally Agree Russ, Ramos needs to improve his defense. It was painful trying to watch him catch a wild, all over the place, HROD!
