By the guy in 1st place Overall. Interesting move by him. Will put to test the question as to whether you can win an overall while punting saves
You can't. Not a chance.
Then how is he in first place overall? Isn't that a chance?

Someone won the auction championship last year punting saves. Just saying'.

Nothing is impossible. You would need to win around 93% of the available points in the other categories. No margin for error but who knows.

But this is an example of why overall standings are meaningless at this point. There are too many outliers. Matt Kemp isn't going to hit .440 with a 60% HR/FB ratio. Pujols likely will hit a HR this year. And so on. Things need time to regress.

Who knows if this was a good move or not, but I feel comfortable knowing I am getting a guy on a good team who has closed before with success and can keep the ball in the park! :)
Only time will tell, but if I had to place a bet now, I would say that you are probably gonna like your deal more than I like mine.
Hope your right Russel ;) ! To be honest I grabbed him more as a shot at the overall prizes more than our league. Downs numbers the past few years are very good and the Angels are looking for a bit of security - somewhere!
Its been fun going back and forth with you at the top of Chicago 1 so far, please start falling off soon! :P

Are you guys at the top?? Next year, if you guys are sitting next to me again, I'm stealing your rankings during one of the breaks!

Ok, now I am feeling a LITTLE bit better about spending $414 to get Scott Downs!
I got Jarrod Parker for $26 - 2 weeks ago and he went for a bunch more now that he has been called up, so I am justifying it in my brain that I got both players for $440... :) :D :P  I love this game!

Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event Chicago League 2 bartoochies $129
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event Las Vegas March 31 League 6 Hell Bent For Leather $166
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event New York League 4 Fantasy Pros 911 - Marta $138
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event New York League 5 Captain Lou $189
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event Online March 31 League 3 Layin' the Smack Down $217
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event Online March 31 League 5 Pine Tar Pros- ME2 $91
Jarrod Parker NFBC Main Event St. Louis League 88'ss $157

COMPLETELY AGREE... I am just trying to justify spending $414 on Scott Downs and hashing it over with Friends here! I could be in great shape come September or I could be wondering why the heck I blew so much money on Downs so early! The upside is its only April 30th so if he is the closer for the season, I get his production for 5 full months instead of say spending that much on him in July! :)

ha! just breaking your balls. my team is in the same boat. we took storen and wilson since they "fell" to us. needless to say we wish they had fallen elsewhere. we missed out on santiago. we missed on lidge (thank god) we were ready to thrown down 330ish on downs til we read the report that the angels were looking elsewhere. you combine that info with the fact that downs is 36 , still has a fireballer behind him, and the angels have basically gone ALL IN for this season and we cut our bid to 250... 280 won the bid. while disappointing, we werent ready to sell our souls for one guy when it seems like there are about 5-8 teams that have major question marks at closer.

i think we are about to witness (or are witnessing) the ugliness run in changing closers EVER.

psthat first angel save opp sure is going to be exciting.

pss can heath bell just go away.. he is clearly hurt.. bring in the CISHEK!

You got it man! Ride him to the top!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Ya right... Anytime Downs or Aceves take the mound I honetly shut the TV off for fear of having the Big One  !
Saves has obviously been one of the toughest parts of 2012 and I seeno let up in sight!
