Best of Yuck!

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Sun May 06, 2012 10:14 am

I'm a little tired of the injury drama that is playing out in baseball this year.
Let's focus on the players that hurt our teams even more than the injured, the under performers.
First, the odds are that you are not happy with your first round pick.
Shuddup Kemp owners!

On whole, first round picks have disappointed. Even with Kemp, here is the average of the top 15 adp picks for 2012:

.267/15/4/14/2

After a month and a week, those numbers are pedestrian to say the least. Without Kemp, the average drops to .255 and of course, the other numbers drop severely as well.
Cano with four rbi
Pujols 0 hr's/0 sb
Bautista- .180
Upton with 8 rbi

With all the talk of pitchers going down, most first rounders have under performed which haven't improved our moods...
Just thinking,,,,We go into every draft thinking offense, yet pitching dominates the Boards, be it injury or getting blown up, we are a strange breed,,,,,just thinking

So, what about positionally and under performance?
Let's take a look at players you should NOT be playing....And if you are....my condolences

Catcher- Rod Barajas
This one trick pony lost his trick.
Barajas has not homered or actually done much of anything.
In 60 at bats, Barajas has 'hit' .133 with three runs and ZERO rbi
Victor Martinez would have been better for Barajas owners.....

First Base- Albert Pujols
Seriously
There has been nobody worse
.194/9/0/5/0
In 108 at bats
For most rosters, his owners have stuck with him through every at bat.
Aubrey Huff would be better
A 'sleeper' for 1b is Chris Parmelee. I say this because several friends of mine called him a 'sleeper' before the season.
To which I say, he is an even better 'sleeper' DURING the season.
Parmelee is at .212/4/0/2/0 in 66 at bats.....yuck

Second Base- Ryan Raburn
Feel the RaBurn!
.141/4/0/2/0 in 64 at bats
And his defense is even worse!
Raburn is losing time to fantasy monster Danny Worth and Ramon Santiago........yuck

Third Base- Placido Polanco
If you had him on your draft lists, you knew what you were in for....nothing
Polanco has an empty .250 average
In 92 at bats, he 0 hr, 0 sb with eight runs and four rbi
Honorable Mention are Morel and Ian Stewart.
Both will hit a home run or steal a base on faab day, giving hope to those who waste their faab dollars on them.....yuck

Shortstop- Jason Bartlett
In 67 at bats, Bartlett has a .149/6/0/4/0
Sooooo Bad
As a matter of fact, don't take any ss that starts his last name with a 'BAR'....they play like they've imbibed there.
Clint Barmes in 82 at bats has a .171/3/2/5/0........yuck

Outfield- Byrd, Mayberry, Heisey
I think most of us knew about Byrd. We've all known about Byrd for years, well except for the Cubs.
Byrd in 86 at bats has a .163/5/0/6/0....Some took him on faab when traded to the Red Sox.....How's that working out for you?
I took John Mayberry in a couple of drafts. Now, not rostered. I lost faith, Charlie Manuel lost faith, and I think John Mayberry has lost faith. In 58 at bats, he has a .207/3/0/2/0
Heisey is always a 'sleeper' pick. Which might work well if he worked for a Boss that knew his last name.
He spells it L-u-d-w-i-c-k.
In 55 at bats, Heisey has a .217/3/0/5/0 line...For all three outfielders......yuck

Utility- Jeff Francoeur
Not much has been said about Frenchy this year. He's been invisible.
In 101 at bats, he has a .248/9/0/5/0 line
Those stats are as empty as my last bag of Doritos....Yum..... I mean yuck

Some special mentions....
Alex Rios....A lot of players have told me that Rios has made a comeback this year.
Comeback?
First, who can't come back from what Rios did last year?
Second, where's the comeback?
He's hitting .277, sure, but in 94 at bats, he has a .277/6/2/10/1
Woo Hoo!
He has the fantasy resurgence of Jamie Moyer.

Bryce Harper
From a purely fantasy perspective....
He has no home runs, no stolen bases and only 3 rbi and 2 runs scored
On the National scene, he can be hyped to the hilt.
Hype means jack when it comes to numbers
On one hand, Harper has done nothing fantasy-wise
On the other, he has 75% of the rbi Robinson Cano has 'accumulated'.

Ryan Sweeney-
Sweeney is my fantasy whipping boy.
He is hitting a marvelous .354....354!
What could possibly be wrong with that?
The problem with Sweeney is that during the last four years, Sweeney has not had more than one homer AND/OR stolen base. Four years!
This year he has zero of both.
Sweeney is having a Polanco of a year. I mean during Polanco's good year's.
Ben Zobrist is hitting half of what Sweeney is hitting, .191...but I'd rather own Zobrist.
I'd have hopes for other categories.
Already, Zobrist has a .191/15/4/12/1
Sweeney? .354/8/0/9/0
So, you think it's unfair comparing Sweeney to a player of Zobrist's calibre?
Somebody that was taken near the top of drafts?
Ok, let's compare him with an also ran. Somebody on his own team who has less at bats...
Darnell McDonald has this line in 45 at bats- 178/11/2/8/1
Half the at bats, half the average, more runs, as many rbi, more hr's and sb's.
That, from a guy undrafted and not on most rosters.
Still, Sweeney's average makes us comfortable. Just to unsettle his owners though, he hit .200 over the last week with one run and one rbi.
With Ellsbury and Crawford coming?.......Yuck
