One interesting thing I did see on RotoWorld, of the 20 perfect games in the last 112 years, five have come since 2004.

Year(s) of the pitcher indeed. The mound used to be about 15", now 10.5". Maybe it should be lowered again...or make the pitchers play barefooted.

i think a decline in hitting along with improved defense (better positioning) has a little something to do with it as well.

That last play by Arias was pretty good as well -- what a pea he threw from his back foot.

It almost looked like Belt pulled a Todd Helton and left the bag early - wouldn't that have been something, losing a perfect game because your first baseman pulls his foot off -- but he didn't.

That Blanco catch was all world. Was watching it live and I didnt think he had any chance to get there. What an incredible play.

Most often, the best athletes in America don't end up pursuing MLB but rather football or basketball. He threw out some demographics (unsure of the source) that in the last 30 yrs (somewhere in that neighborhood), the avg nfl player's height has increeased by x amount of inches and weight by x amt of pounds... During that same span of time, the avg mlb player's height had only increased by 1/2 of an inch and x amount of pounds. I forget the increase in lbs but his point was that the stronger, taller, faster athletes and, therefore the best athletes, gravitated most often toward basketball and football. If you were that good, the road to the nfl or nba was a lot shorter than the road to the majors. Anyways, it was interesting how Cain's perfect game generated that whole tangent.

Just my luck: I was at the Giants game on Tuesday night as part of a group from the FSTA Trade Conference. We even had a nice suite down the left field line and watched a good Giants' win as Madison Bumgarner pitched a beauty and hit a home run on a gorgeous night. It was a great debut for me at beautiful AT&T Park. Little did I know that the next day there would be a Perfect Game that I wish I had stayed to see!! Oh well, nice job Matt Cain and I'm sure that devoted group of Giants fans enjoyed it.

Beautiful experience there. Enjoyed the city, the stadium and the ballpark immensely.
