One thing I just noticed is that Derek Pierson has a shot at the $75,000 cash bonus involving the Main Event and the Online Championship. He leads the Online Championship and is 9th overall in the Main Event. He needs to fight Chad for that top spot in the Main Event and keep winning the Online Championship, but he's in the Top 10 in both events and fighting for that bonus as well. Continued good luck to everyone in these events.

Re: Chad Schroeder Leads Both NFBC Main Events At Break

When Lindy Hinkelman won both the NFBC Main Event and the NFBC Online Championship in 2009, he had several of the same players on both rosters. That's to be expected if you're going to win a pair of national championships with hundreds of owners to compete against.

The most amazing thing about Chad Schroeder this year is that he has constructed two completely different teams with not a single core player the same on both teams. The two players on both teams are Adam Jones and J.P. Arencibia. THAT'S IT. 28 of 30 players on his NFBC Main Event are different from his NFBC XII draft. To me, that's just AMAZING. He drafted 8th overall in the NFBC Main Event and 3rd in the NFBC XII, so he didn't even start with some of the same superstars.

Here is his draft from the NFBC Main Event Online on March 24th. This is a pretty amazing draft as he seemed to nail most of his picks and then of course he added a few gems via FAAB later on:

Cocktails & Dreams Main Event Online, March 24th
8th Pick of the Draft
Round 1: Joey Votto
Round 2: Andrew McCutchen
Round 3: Brett Lawrie
Round 4: CC Sabathia
Round 5: Paul Konerko
Round 6: Adam Jones
Round 7: Yu Darvish
Round 8: Gio Gonzalez
Round 9: Emilio Bonifacio
Round 10: Brandon League
Round 11: Rafael Betancourt
Round 12: Angel Pagan
Round 13: Chris Perez
Round 14: J.P. Arencibia
Round 15: Logan Morrison
Round 16: Ian Desmond
Round 17: Brandon McCarthy
Round 18: Allen Craig
Round 19: Gordon Beckham
Round 20: Mike Carp
Round 21: Henderson Alvarez
Round 22: R.A. Dickey
Round 23: Brett Cecil
Round 24: Bartolo Colon
Round 25: Josh Thole
Round 26: Tyler Clippard
Round 27: Marlon Byrd
Round 28: Robert Andino
Round 29: Nick Massett
Round 30: Bronson Arroyo

In FAAB, he hit on Ernesto Frieri for $88, James McDonald for $66 and Trevor Plouffe for $17, then cutting him and picking him up later for $33. He now has 140 league points and a 311 point lead in the overall race.

His NFBC XII team was against a lot of NFBC veterans on the final day of drafting. This was a stacked league, yet he seems to be dominating it pretty well. His Cocktails & Dreams has 106 league points and a 138.5 point lead in the overall competition. Here is his draft:

Cocktails & Dreams NFBC XII April 4th, 2 pm League
From the 3rd Draft Spot:
Round 1: Miguel Cabrera
Round 2: Eric Hosmer
Round 3: Jose Reyes
Round 4: Matt Holliday
Round 5: David Wright
Round 6: Madison Bumgarner
Round 7: Matt Moore
Round 8: Adam Jones
Round 9: Mat Latos
Round 10: Cameron Maybin
Round 11: Brian Wilson
Round 12: Matt Garza
Round 13: Dustin Ackley
Round 14: Delmon Young
Round 15: Alexei Ramirez
Round 16: Brett Myers
Round 17: Adam Dunn
Round 18: Shaun Marcum
Round 19: J.P. Arencibia
Round 20: Hiroki Kuroda
Round 21: Dexter Fowler
Round 22: Alfonso Soriano
Round 23: John Danks
Round 24: Luke Hochevar
Round 25: Bud Norris
Round 26: A.J. Pierzynski
Round 27: Jose Altuve
Round 28: Jake Peavy
Round 29: Jordan Schafer
Round 30: Scott Baker

His FAAB pickups have helped him tremendously in this league: Alex Rios for $188, Addison Reed for $88, Ernesto Frieri for $77, Andy Pettitte $43, now Bobby Parnell $8. He's been chasing every closer who has sniffed a save and pieced that part of the puzzle together well. This team will be interesting to watch to see if it can hold onto the lead the rest of the way because this core probably isn't as strong as his Main Event team, but he's pieced it together nicely.

Hey Chad first congrats on such a strong season. Any suggestions on a baseball trip to see your Royals? What part of town to stay in, a hotel of choice?, something to do during the day on that Saturday, and most of all best spots for KC BBQ would be much appreciated... You are going to be tough to beat.

I'm in second in the league Chad is leading the NFBC XII an I'm 12th or something overall. I'm not saying I'm conceding, but I'd take second place money right now. Think about that, 12th overall and I think I'm done.

I've been in the NFBC for three years now and am learning more this year than any other. I don't know where everything will shake out (I'm not in the main event) but his guy is simply in a class by himself, Lindy semi-included.

I am in another NFBC XII league that has a chance, thankfully Chad is not in that league. I'm not ashamed to say that I'd rather avoid him in national (same league) contests in the future. Most say bring it on and we all want to beat the best, but this guy is ridiculous!

From what I've seen he's exceptional both on the waiver wire and with start/sits. In a very short amount of time playing high stakes FB he's risen to the upper echelon. Not easy to do.

In the Diamond he's got me at 3th vs 5th.
In an XII he's leading 1st versus 3rd.
In the Ultimate Aution he's 7th, I'm 6th.

I like my team in each of these leagues and my plan is to go 3 for 3 , but he's as tough to beat as anyone. Looking forward to the second half battle.

Really impressive that both teams are constructed so differently, I would have thought both would be pretty similar in the core. Not only that, in the 2nd league, he's got Hosmer/Reyes at 2 & 3..... neither is having a great year. Obviously some great pickups on the wire too.

We're sitting at 3 overall (Sex on the Beachy) and have been chasing Chad for a couple months now but hard to put a dent into his lead, guy has just been consistently solid from week to week. Great job so far.

Unfortunately, I am not a good guy to ask. I live in Omaha and don't get there as often as I should. I have stayed in the power and light district the last couple times I have gone down there. It is fun for debauchery at night. I am sure there is good food there too, but cannot remember:). Although I am a bit embarrassed about KC fans treatment of Cano, it is always a great time and is one of the most beautiful parks in the bigs. Cool they get to showcase it tonight a bit. Wish I could help more.

To address a few points made here

1. I do think it is strange that my cores aren't more similar given the lead in both. However, one guy not mentioned is James Mcdonald who has been far more incredible than he is likely to be in 2nd half. Big reason for the success so far. I don't have him on many other teams.

2. Joe That means a lot and is really quite the compliment. Just keep in mind that I have a lot of teams in the various contests, which in turn gives me far greater chance to get one right. You just happen to be in a league where so far it has. I have a whole bunch of terrible teams as well. And a large majority of my football teams stunk up the joint last year as well.

3. KJ Thanks for the kind words. Means a lot coming from one of the best. That 12 teamer I am in with you has been frustrating. I have done as poor a job with that team as any. I nailed the offense in the draft but have messed up the pitching so badly it is a matter of time before you or Glenn or both get me. I got a little too complacent with the huge offensive leads I once had as well. I failed to understand how long the season is and it caught up with me. Diamond, I have done well so far getting the quality innings eaten so far but still have a lot of them to go and with the arms I am wheeling out there that can change on a dime. The offense has been very poor considering the strategy implemented. Nothing would surprise me there, from winning it to missing the money altogether. It is somewhat out of my control with the player pool completely wiped out by the sharks in that league. Either my guys all stay healthy and warm up with the bats or they don't. Auction I hated my team after the draft and still do. Just a mismatched motley crue of players.

4. Chimpat. My team has completely overachieved. There is no way I can even come close to sustaining my current score. Just a matter of how much of it I can hold on to. The further back I drop the more teams that are in play. Yours obviously is in play no matter what. Dutch Mafia is in a very good position. Good player and his standings are sitting in such a way that he most certainly can gain his point total and very quickly. If your team can draft behind him, we will meet in the middle eventually. Every day I can delay that from happening the better the chances get. But there is obviously no way Mccutchen, Desmond, Dickey, Mcdonald Plouffe etc can continue the performances.

I will try and do my best. It is probably the best chance I will ever have to take down a main event, let alone a pair of them. Hopefully, I can bring one of them home. But it is overwhelming to consider there is still half a season left.

I've been in your position, Chad.

What it read- I've been in your position, Chad
What it said- I've done it too!

I know that's the way it looks before I make this next point :D
When I was in that position, I told my friends that the only thing it means is if there is some kind of catastrophe and the rest of baseball season is called off, that I had the best chance of winning.
Other than that, I'm just a rabbit in a marathon.

It sounds like you have the same mentality :D

Great start, Chad
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Rabbit in a marathon is the perfect analogy. This year especially, with all these Trout teams flying up the leader boards. Seems like it will be tough to win without having that late round impact player.

Very nice read everyone. After reading Chad's analysis, I do feel like we're in a marathon and the second half of the race all looks uphill. I feel for you Chad, but I think most of us are also envious of your position. Good luck to everyone the rest of the way. There's still a long way to go, but it's been fun to analyze the top team of our two Main Events. The addition of the 12-teamer has been fun.

Congrats on the good start, Chad. I would expect nothing less. Given your past success, I don't feel like you're giving yourself enough credit. You're going to be tough to beat.

Chest- I used to live/work out of KC, so I can try to answer your questions. I started to answer here, but was getting a little long-winded and didn't want to take away from Chad's moment, so I shot you a PM. That said, I will go ahead and answer the most important question here, since others may be interested....BARBECUE!

Gates & Arthur Bryant's are the two most famous, so if you're only in KC for a couple days, you may just want to hit these two up so that you can say you did. Both have multiple locations in the KC area. I'm a believer that it increases the experience to go to the original location. Unfortunately I don't think the original Gates is around anymore. When you do go to Gates be ready to order before you get there. As soon as you walk in the door they will yell, "Hi. May I help you?" and give you the stare down if you take your time to actually read the menu.

The original Arthur Bryant's is downtown on 18th & Brooklyn. It's in a run down building with a squeaky screen door. The beef sandwich is solid.

Even though the two above are the most famous, they aren't the best in KC in my opinion. I'm a big fan of Oklahoma Joe's & JackStack. The original Oklahoma Joe's is in a gas station on 47th & Mission (No, not near, by, or behind, but IN a gas station.) If you or whomever you are with can't get past it being in a gas station, there are two locations in the south side suburbs on the Kansas side that are nice and clean(nice area- where I used to live). Get some sort of brisket (the Z-man is my favorite, but not for everybody) and fries.

JackStack is a different style of barbecue. The only way I know to describe it is high maintenance barbecue- if there is such a thing. Pretty much all of the main dishes I've tried are solid. Make sure to get a side of onion rings if you go there. Hands down the best onion rings I've ever had. There are also multiple JackStack locations around the city. All are nice.

Beyond these there are a ton of smaller, lesser known places (Danny Edwards, LC's, Woodyard, Smokin' Guns, etc.) that are awesome. You really can't go wrong with barbecue in KC.

Have fun and if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM.

It's been said multiple times already, but congrats on an amazing start Chad. My neck hurts from looking up at your teams all year.

I see Cocktails & Dreams lurking in the Online championship standings as well, so it will be quite the challenge in the 2nd half to stay in contention there with you and all the other excellent teams running up the leaderboard. Lots of baseball left to be played, and very much looking forward to kicking off the second half Friday and competing with you and everyone else down until the last out in October. With any luck, maybe someone can actually get close enough to make you sweat a little bit down the stretch.....I mean, afterall, whats the fun in winning the Main by 300+ points, the XII by 100+, and an extra $75K without needing a few cold ones to ease the nerves along the way :) :D

Chad, as you said, you've had some guys outperforming their expectations but I'm sure a lot of us chasing you are in the same boat. You obviously had strong drafts, made some good pickups and have had some luck too...... all the things needed to sit atop at the all star break.

You make a good point on James Mcdonald, but the Pirates actually have a favorable schedule the rest of the way so who knows, maybe he just finally put it together and finishes as a top 15-20 SP? This kills me because we drafted him and actually cut him week 2........ brutal drop, worst move we've made by far.

Obviously we're only half way there but you should be excited to be in this position, it's really cool to sit at the very peak of the mountain. Good luck the rest of the way.

I wish everyone the best of luck in the second half of the NFBC season. FINISH STRONG EVERYONE!!

Chad is the leader at the halfway point, but there's a lot of baseball left. We all know what can happen in one month of action, one week of action, one day of action, heck one hour and even one minute of action. Baseball is a marathon, but individual events can change a team's fortune in a heartbeat. It's going to be a fun race to the finish in all of our NFBC contests and let's hope that injuries stay out of the equation moreso this half than the first half.

The reason we started the $75,000 cash bonus program was to give an incentive to owners to try competing in both the 15-team and 12-team formats. I felt that the two formats presented different challenges and if anyone could excel at both formats it would really prove their talents in this great hobby. I also thought it was a way to provide more prize money and a big, big payday without us having to dig deeper in the guarantees. In many ways this is a good promotional expense for us and the insurance companies believe this is a good play for them. So everyone wins.

I think they estimated that someone would win this once every 25 years and that sounds about right. Nobody has won it in three years of me doing this with two different combinations there and we've had one winner here in three years. But Chad is giving it a good run this year as is a few others.

What Lindy Hinkelman accomplished in 2009 showed a real dominance in both NFBC formats and he proved to many people that winning both overall titles was possible. You just had to really hit on both teams against hundreds and hundreds of very good players. But it could be done. What we're showing this year is that once again it can be done and in two Main Event formats. I think it will help the NFBC XII grow in the future and if that grand prize grows we really could have two big Mains with bigger grand prizes and a nice cash bonus. Seeing someone win more than a quarter of a million dollars -- or at least having a legitimate shot at that -- in one season is pretty damn cool. So best of luck all.

And not to mix a promotional message in here, but what the heck. We're doing the same thing in our NFFC contests this year with a $75,000 cash bonus if you win the Classic and Primetime overalls ($225,000 in grand prizes combined plus $13,000 in league prizes for a total take of $313,000) and in our NFFC Primetime and NFFC Online Championship ($250,000 in grand prizes). Someone really has the potential to win some big, big money in the NFFC this year, which is exciting for everyone. Check it out at nffc.stats.com

Okay, LET THE GAMES BEGIN!! Good luck everyone.

Ummmm Chad, if I was a betting man (and evidence may say I am :)), I would bet against either of us catching you. I've unfortunately been in enough leagues and contests with you over the last couple years to know that one of the things you most excel at is closing out the wins.

What I find most remarkable about your runs thus far this season is the completely different team rosters you put together for your contest leading teams in the Main and XII. If I remember correctly during Lindy's "Lindy" season, his two championship teams were also constructed with completely different players. It's a testament to your skill as a fantasy player that it's obviously not only about getting the break out players right for you, but knowing how to put these teams together. I remember during the season you won the inaugural WCOFB in 2010, you responded in my Blog thread that you really didn't believe you had a great feel for baseball, but that you felt your strength was in understanding "game theory". I guess that would explain your record in recent years in so many different sports, contests, formats, etc.

Good luck the rest of the season Chad. No matter the finish however, you've proven to be one of the greatest, and in my opinion the greatest, amongst the greatest fantasy players in the world.
