Sore Elbow? Fantasy Shoot Him!

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Jul 13, 2012 2:57 pm

I hate the All Star break.
I don't care about the game. I don't care about the home run hitting contest. To me, it has become a beauty contest more than 'our league can beat your league!'
Let's face it, there is no allegiance to one league or another and when Managers are pitching one pitcher for one inning at a time, they're part of a parade, not a competition.
But, you don't wanna hear my feelings about the All Star game.
A game that MEANS SOMETHING, although that has to be lost on a guy like Carlos Gonzalez or Starlin Castro. Their teams are already well out of the playoff hunt.
Most players will sign for the big money, no matter the team, no matter the league.
Yet, it means something.
Bah.
Pomp and circumstance, heavy on the pomp.

Ok, I promise, enough about the All Star game.
My wife is a voracious reader. Anytime she isn't working or being with the grand kids, her nose is in a Kindle.
You guys already know what I do when not at work or with the grand kids. Watching or listening to baseball.
Sometimes I'll talk back to the tv, usually disagreeing with a comment or just flat telling them to shuddup when it comes to gushing over a home town hero.
And then, there is the whining when a fantasy player doesn't perform.

I may scream out, "OOOOOOOH, THAT sombitch!"
And my wife will say "What happened?"
After telling her about the shortcomings of my player, she'll give a roll of the eyes and shake her head.
Last week, we were doing our things when she blurted out, "OOOOH CRAP!"
I asked if she was ok.
She smirked and said the hero in the book had just gotten shot.
"NOT THE SAME THING! ", I yelled.
She said it was, that we get the same bond with our player or character and live through their eyes for awhile.
I disagreed, saying that her character was imaginary, while my player was a real breathing human.
She agreed, but said the similarities were still there. That both would live to see another day and that as she reads her book and I look at my players, each day is just another chapter.
She ended by saying that her hero was tougher than my players.
"How do you figure THAT?"
"My hero will get over being shot and still save the day.
Your player can get a pain in the elbow and you guy's treat him like a horse with a broken leg, you guys fantasy shoot him that same week."

Damn, is there anything worse than the wife being right?
Again.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
