Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Ichiro to the yankees- possibly... infante and sanchez to tigers for Turner - I dont get this one, but..... Ichiro may be in the lineup tonight for the yankees.
Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Shell of his former self. .288 OBP.. Awful.. Just another HOF player for the Yankees to showoff, but unfortunately he doesn't pitch.

Sanchez and Infante's fantasy stats just took a turn for the better.Outlaw wrote:Ichiro to the yankees- possibly... infante and sanchez to tigers for Turner - I dont get this one, but..... Ichiro may be in the lineup tonight for the yankees.

Alan,
If the Mets had Ichiro he would be their second best position player!!

Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Possibly.. but Ichiro is a Yankee and they dont need him. Swisher is hurt, so he is a fill in for now, but do they bench Swisher when he comes back?ALL-IN JD wrote:Alan,

Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Absolutely not. He becomes their full time LF'er (without Gardner) and back to Ibanez/A. Jones at the DH spot.
Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
Yankees needed a LF and Ichiro will play every day for them. They'll use Jones/Ibanez to fill in for swisher for now. There is talk swisher injury could be worse too.... hip problem.... Ichiro will be play very well for Yanks and put up some better power numbers with the short porch, not to mentions the steals. Ichiro is a pro, and this is the type of thing to highly motivate him to shut up the critics. he also had 10-5 rights to veto and didnt blink any eye with accepting the trade. Ichiro pinstripe jersyes will be hot sellers....BK METS wrote:Possibly.. but Ichiro is a Yankee and they dont need him. I didn't think Ichiro has ever played left field..But, he can obviously play the outfield.. Would be interesting.. Cannot argue the move since they gave up nothing but a lot of money... but the way he has been playing, I wonder if it helps or hurts the team.ALL-IN JD wrote:Absolutely not. Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
they didnt even give up much money, about 2.2M, Marinerss eating 4.5M. I had heard "rumors" of this a few days ago, and i suspect it was a way of the Mariners giving Ichiro a chance to play in the post season too... i picked up Capser the ghost in 3 leagues yesterday, I hope he gets this is his chance now.BK METS wrote:I didn't think Ichiro has ever played left field..But, he can obviously play the outfield.. clean shaven already, no more goofy mustache.
Re: Trades going down Ichiro to yankees
The trade was Ichiro's idea and made at his request. The M's GM, Jack Z., is saying that the M's were simply honoring Ichiro's wishes, and that he deserved this based on his legacy as a Mariner.
I think that in reality, Jack's view was more aligned with Jay Buhner's, who bluntly stated earlier in the week, that if the Mariner's resigned Ichiro to another contract after his current one expired this year, it would make Buhner want to "vomit".
This trade is the perfect exit for Ichiro as far as dealing with their Japanese owner who loves Ichiro. I think Jack is probably thrilled that he will have $17 million more to play with next year without the pressure from ownership to resign him.
At this stage of his career, Ichiro is probably being somewhat overpaid at $1 million a month by the Yankees. But the Yanks apparently want his skill set, they overpay most of their players, they can afford it, and it is only a short-term rental. The trade looks like a win/win for the Yanks and the M's to me.
