The 2nd Annual New York Metropolitan "MTM" LIVE Super Event

Post by Baseball Furies » Wed Nov 21, 2012 11:33 pm

I had to start this sometime, so while I was at it, I figured let's get this bad boy going sooner rather than later. For starters, all returning owners from last season's event have the right of first refusal on this one. I sincerely hope that everyone had as much fun as I did last year competing LIVE together in this event against some of the best in the business. I think I tallied something like three-quarters of a million dollars in lifetime earnings sitting around the draft table that evening last year. As you all know I went all out and spared no expense. I spent weeks upon weeks of emails, phone calls, and message board posts to fill out this league, and in the end, it was all worth it. Yes, I do know that for some of you that this is a mere pittance of an investment to make, and the return on investment of a measly $20,000 first place prize is pathetic pocket change for you, but I believe that there is something to be said for things like camaraderie, friendship, tradition, bragging rights, and just plain fun. Therefore, I expect most of you to be back this year to again join your fellow league mates who may in fact have handed you your ass last season or had a hand in your disappointment in how you finished in the standings, or perhaps the reverse was true. But whatever the circumstances, I would love to have all of you back in 2013. The event is tentatively set for a 6:00 p.m. start time, Friday night, March 29th in NYC. I'm sure the time will end up being later when all is said and done in order to give sufficient time to those of you traveling into the city that day (read Gillis and Deterra making another nail-biting entrance from MA  ), so we'll keep the start time flexible for now. We will be having an awards dinner and heavy drinking at a location TBD immediately afterwards to present the incredible championship trophy and roast last year's winners, Marc Perlmutter and co-owner Neil Marantz which I hope all of you will attend. Last year's post event dinner was a blast (even if was after midnight), and 2013's is destined to be even better. So plan early and make my life easy on me this year by letting me know your intentions. If you're reading this and would like to step up to be part of the action and festivities, please post your name on the thread for the waiting list, and I will let you know if by some miracle a spot or two opens up. :D As it stands right now, the sign-up list for 2013 is as follows:

1. Marc Perlmutter (2012 League Champion)
2. Mike Massotto (2012 League Champion of Last Place, Tied with Dave Deterra)
3. Steve Jupinka (2012 Disappointing 6th Place Finish for "The Immortal One")
4. Scott Fleming (2012 League Winner of the Most Metro-Sexual Award, but a pathetic 10th Place Showing otherwise) :P
5. Mike Lins (2012 League Champion June Winner, and then all downhill after that)
6. Ken Magner (2012 League 2nd Place finisher by half a point thanks in part to Scott Fleming's "creative" managing in the
final week of the season, and still aggravated about it  )
7. Jeff Dobies (Tentative first timer who wanted in last year, but decided to dodge the competition for a mysterious last
minute business trip that suddenly came up. Plus, he owes me one. ;)

8. Joe Thelen (2012 11th place finisher who told me he is 50/50 at this point on returning unless the venue is wheelchair
accessible   )

9. Roy Ericson (2012 8th place finisher and league ice cream sandwich provider)
10.John Lemke (2012 9th place finisher and still on meds because of it  )
11.Mike Edelman (2012 5th place finisher and one point out of the $ )
12.Ante Meich (2013 first timer who wants to jump in with the big boys; swears he's Italian :o )
13.
14.
15.

I will be updating this list and the thread regularly until this event is filled. So let's hear from everyone as soon as possible on this. As always, I will do my best to keep it as entertaining as possible. 8-)

Great to have you back, Mikey! Thanks in advance for your $2500 donation again this year. Jupinka said to tell you to try not sucking for the second half of the season for starters...

Mike, I just saw this is same time as the $1300 auction in ny. You may lose a couple guys or they may, but a few of us were in both leagues last year.

Now that all the big money events are starting to get some attention, I've updated the participants list for this year's big event that everyone will be following over the next few months as it fills up again. Again, here's where we're at so far:

1. Marc Perlmutter (2012 League Champion) 8-)
2. Mike Massotto (2012 League Champion of Last Place, Tied with Dave Deterra)
3. Steve Jupinka (2012 Disappointing 6th Place Finish for "The Immortal One")
4. Scott Fleming (2012 League Winner of the Most Metro-Sexual Award, but a pathetic 10th Place Showing otherwise)

9.
10.
11.
12.
13.
14.
15.

There may be a couple of openings this year, so post on this thread ASAP if you want in on the action and the fun. It will be a night to remember for sure! :D

I spoke with Roy "The Ice Cream Man" Ericson today, and he wants to donate to the league again this year as well. He will be doing the early auction that same day, but will have a co-manager cover the first few rounds of this one if has to, and then jump in in progress after wrapping up the auction. Now that's hard core shit, boys! 8-) No disgusting photo to follow. Now let's keep 'em coming!

The MTM Super momentum just keeps picking up steam for what is sure to be yet another memorable evening come March in NYC! As of my last post to this thread, John Lemke, Mike Edelman, and Roy Ericson are committed to returning for the 2013 season at great personal sacrifice (mainly their money and the threat of bodily harm if they didn't  ). Also wanting in for the first time this year is Ante Meich, an NFBC top, east coast competitor who just couldn't pull it off last year. There are a few owners from the inaugural season who I've yet to hear from, but I expect to nail down the official word on them soon. On a sad note, one beloved competitor from last season who will not be returning this season is Glenn "Glenneration X" Lowy who has been read the riot act by his wife to not violate the sanctity of Good Friday evening under penalty of crucifixion with another draft commitment.  He has officially requested that I spare him any undue indignation on this thread after what some of you may remember that I put him through last year just to get him to show up to compete as he had promised months earlier. Ironically, Glenn cashed a 3rd place finish, doubling his entrance fee, and he has decided to quit while he's ahead or while he still has a head. Stay tuned, more news to come! 8-)

Great news! Not sure who he is, but great news nonetheless! 8-) Make you could have him post to this thread to introduce himself or PM me. Could you also let me know on the status of both Eddie Gillis and Dave Deterra for this league for 2013? I believe you were the one who got them on board last year, and the way this thing is filling up, I want to be sure to give all the returning owners the right of first refusal if I can. Thanks for your help on this, Tom.

Mike, I just talked to Eddie Gillis today and he is ALL IN for the MTM again. Put him on the list along with his co-manager Stevie Head. Hopefully he will have one more passenger from Rhode Island for this league!! ;) Let's fill this baby up and get Friday night all set!! Good job all.

Mike, do you now have 13 owners ready to go for this league? Let me know and I'll make sure the Signup List is consistent with your list, which needs some updating my man!!

Here's what I've got according to your posts:

Happy New year all. I just wanted to update everyone where we are with the 2013 MTM LIVE Super Event. Jeff Dobies just contacted me that he'll have to pass this year. Something about having to rearrange his sock drawer that day. Grandpa Joe Thelen is still debating whether or not he wants back in this year. He said that if the venue isn't easily wheelchair accessible, he's a definite "no", so Greg if you could check this, that would be great. I also wanted to confirm that this is a LIVE event, so I want to make sure that Andre Bourcier will be making the trip in from Texas for the festivities. I heard he's a great competitor, but we need his presence at the draft table with the rest of us in the spirit of this event. I am still reserving a spot for the always eclectic and entertaining, Dave Deterra to hopefully be joining us again. I can honestly say that there is nothing quite like sitting next to Dave and drafting live with him. That in and of itself is an experience unto itself. So as of now, we are a solid 11, so who else has what it takes to tangle with some of the best of the best in the East? Jump in sooner rather than later, and Jupinka will autograph whatever body part you would like at the event. More to come, so stay tuned!

Greg, just a further update: Jupinka is in but Fleming is in fact out. He scheduled his penis enlargement surgery for that day for some reason. Why, I don't know, but he will be missed this year. We should now be at 11 strong and Joe Thelen pending to put as at 12 for now. Thanks.

Okay, I have pretty much heard from all of last season's competitors in the inaugural MTM Super Event. It looks like we have three openings for three competitors who have both the chops and the dough to hang with us for the Second Annual Event in NYC which is sure to be even more of a blast than it was last year. :D True, some names are conspicuously absent for a number of various and sundry, lame-ass reasons, but that's their loss. In being true to my Sicilian heritage, those people are now dead to me, and I have put the "Malocchio" or "Maloik" on them all for this coming season, so they're essentially f@#^ed now. But their disloyalty and misfortune is now potentially to your benefit. So PM me first if you have any questions and if you're interested, or just post here on this thread. Thanks!

And for you non-Italians...

Thanks!

You're losing your touch, Lowy. You used to at least be mildly amusing.

BREAKING NEWS!!! THIS JUST IN. FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR, GEKKO IS DODGING THE MTM SUPER.
Apparently the likes of this type of competition, even if it's in his own backyard, is just far too much for him handle at this stage of his career. Unfortunately, none of us inferior opponents will be so lucky as to be schooled by him this year with his brilliance. As a result, we are going to miss out on such revolutionary and innovative draft picks as Yeonis Cespedes in the 3rd, Jesus Montero in the 8th, Doug Fister in the 9th, and Carlos Beltran in the 10th. With picks like these, it's clear to see that he'd be better served sticking with the $150 Draft Champions Events. But there are a three spots left left in this one should he like to step to the plate and defend his "greatness" and prove us all wrong by putting us to shame. Everyone now please brace yourself for the excuses, rationale, justifications, and reminisces from past glory days that Gekko is sure to barrage us with on this thread shortly once he realizes that his fantasy baseball manhood has been called into question.
