Derrek Lee seemed to slip in a lot of drafts, partly due to his shoulder injury. I was really shocked when he sitting there at #11 in today's Ultimate Draft, and was happy to scoop him up. Is this the latest he went in any draft?

He went anywhere from 5-12 in the different Vegas drafts I saw. As a case study, I was going to take him 5 but got scared off by his shoulder and took Bay. I think he'll be fine, but I don't like to take those kinds of risks in the first round.

I purchased Mr. Lee's services in my NL only auction on Friday for $35. Several players went for more including: Pujols 46, Bay 40, Reyes 37, Helton 36, Wright 36, and I'm sure there were a couple others...

Unfortunately even if he is 100% healthy (never know when it comes to a Cubs' injury as they like to hide injuries until all tickets are sold) he won't be able to help my sorry offense.

lee had a career year last year. this year he was gonna post numbers closer to his career averages. couple that with his injury and there's no way i woulda picked hi in the first round.

I wouldn't have taken him in the top 5-7 either, but 11? Insanity...

I disagree with everyone as I took D. Lee at pick #5, GG you say career year? But you took Bay at pick #7 he has never done anything other then that 1 year and 21 out of 23 SB's I don't see that happening again. I think D. Lee switch from Florida to Chicago drastically helped his power numbers so him goiong 40-100 is not out of the question I see him putting up the same numbers with his avg dropping to around .300 and those numbers to me coupled with his 10-15 steals and being a 1b...make him more valuable in my eyes then Manny or Ortiz the other guys I was considering as much as I do like the speed and youth of someone like Bay or Wright its just stretching to to me to see how early they went and everyone taking Figgins/Rollins/Reyes as 1st rounders is all the same to me. I was able to compile 170 steals or so on my avg and I think that should be quite well and my top picks were DLee, Jeter, and the steal of our draft Helton in the 3rd. So we will see who was right in the end , but hopefully I am :D

Felt verrrry lucky to get him at #11 in LV3 and Jesse, you had to be crapping the bed when he fell to you at 12 in Ultimate. Once I saw Beltran go at 10 I thought maybe I had a shot at getting him at 15, lol.

TOP 15 IN VEGAS ULTIMATE

1 AROD

2 PULJOS

3 SANTANA

4 VLAD

5 TEIRIERA

6 CRAWFORD

7 WRIGHT

8 BAY

9 ABREU

10 BELTRAN

11 RAMERIZ

12 D LEE

13 UTLEY

14 ORTIZ

15 FIGGINS

Any really suprises here. My opinion beltran at 10 , i would have gambled ,and grabbed a slugger , and hoped beltran made it back on the swing. They did grab HAFNER on the swing , who i love. Maybe UTLEY or FIGGINS at 13 , 15 but they moved to the 1st round in a lot of leagues.

I could live with any of the top 15.

Going to VEGAS was just awesome . Finally got to meet greg, and a bunch of great guys.My 15 year old son had a blast. Thanks to everybody in vegas who came up and said hi, and talk a little fantasy. GREG looks younger in person, and did a great job in the ultimate. THANKS EVERYBODY IN VEGAS. EDDIE GILLIS

Hey Eddie, I was one of the guys talking with you on Saturday after the draft - you had pick #1 and I had #15. I took Figgins and Reyes on the swing - I did not see any other LV drafts with a speed/speed combo. Anyway, it was nice meeting you and some of the others guys. We're in a tough league for sure.

Very risky move- were you able to build power later and not have to pass on value because you already had too much speed later?

HANKSTR i do remember are chat after the draft. In the ultimate pick 15 did the same thing ,FIGGINS and REYES.You both got DUNN on your 3rd pick , which probably didnt happen for most guys with that pick.I considered DUNN in the ultimate at three, pick 1.I also remember your two year ranking at 25.I be watching you.

GOOD LUCK

Chest, you are right - it was risky. I hoped to put pressure on the remaining speed guys (e.g. Freel, Taveras) and perhaps inflate their value even though they are risky propositions. It is so freakin' hard to get decent speed. I tried to make up for the initial power shortage by drafting guys like Dunn, Thome, and Tracy and of course balancing it with pitching. If Thome hits 35-40 then I'll be in very good shape but he's a health risk too.

[/QUOTE]I was the 15 in the Ultimate (Fig/Reyes) and was able to get plenty of power later (A.Jones falling to me at 45, Dunn at 46, then Bonds and Ensberg the next two, with Fielder later). Ended up not worrying about BA and hope to get 15/15/15/15 in R/HR/RBI/SB and then hope for the best in avg. Pitching should be decent to good, took Prior at what I thought was a reasonable risk (end 11) and then Schilling/C.Young/Lieber/Blanton/Liriano/Heilman with Jenks/M.Gonzalez at closer with possible saves from R.Hern/Hermanson/Coffey/Hawkins. Was a great ultimate draft, finished in about 3:20, and was so much fun talking to everyone afterwards. Good luck!
