3rd time the charm for the clowns?

Post by SluggoJD » Sun Mar 19, 2006 6:36 pm

John Dean, Mighty Bozos here. Seldom post because I sucked so bad the first two years, after doing well in the Reggie Jackson baseball challenge 4 years ago, and my first year in the Diamond Challenge 3 years ago.

Two years ago I thought I was prepared, but I sucked. Last year, I signed up a week before the event (299th), studied for one week, and sucked. lol

Well enough was enough...signed up for two events instead of one, studied my ass off - at least 40 hours/week since XMAS, and while I doubt I'll win the overall, I was determined to draft balanced teams that don't suck :D

LV $650 Mixed Auction - I've always felt I was better at auctions than straight drafts, but after the past two years...

C - Pierzynski, Olivo

1B - Lee

2B - Loretta

3B - Feliz

SS - Everett

CI - Sweeney

MI - Kennedy

OF - Holliday, Edmonds, Hunter, Bradley, DeJesus

U - Overbay

Bench - Matthews, Counsell, Matos, Mientkiewicz

P - Carpenter, Contreras, Chen, Radke, Maddux, Lopez, Gagne, Jones, Borowski, Wood, Pineiro, Williams

Main Event - LV #1, 10-spot - prior to the draft, I struggled with the notion of taking Santana if available - it's so damn hard to draft a good offense if you take him first round, but I practiced a lot for just this scenario, felt aces are scarce, and the guy could win 25 with some luck. Still, I was hoping Ramirez, Bay or Ortiz would be available...and then they went 7th, 8th, and 9th...

C - Olivo, Miller

1B - Sweeney

2B - Giles

3B - Glaus

SS - Rollins

CI - Broussard

MI - Loretta

OF - Holliday, Edmonds, Sanders, Monroe, Delluci

U - Kennedy

Bench - Matthews, T Lee, Jose Lopez

P - Santana, Vazquez, Young, Chen, Wood, Williams, Benson, Pineiro, Snell, Wade Miller, Isringhausen, Borowski, Weathers (fierce closer run earlier than expected)

Any thoughts? Just a bunch of stupid clowns again?

John

Looks okay, a little weak in power. Like the rest of us, if a few things break your way, you'll be in contention. Good luck!

Hey John - you deserve a prize just for having to draft next to those tools on your left!

LOL Acid Cowboys, you're right!

I just don't understand how people can throw down $1250 and then show up less than 2 minutes before the start, drunk as skunks, completely unprepared for later rounds, etc. As I stated at one point out loud, some people paid to compete and try to win, and not just have a good time in Vegas.

However, they did apologize afterwards, and things turned out ok in the long run I believe...so no harm no foul.

John Better odds for the rest of John, I didn't really check the boards after the draft finished as I usually do, but it will be interesting to see how the "late and drunk" team looks. Anyone take a look?

Acid Cowboys - were you drafting from the 15th? I seem to recall cowboy hats down on the end.

Actually, they didn't draft all that bad considering things. Only one closer though - Gordon.
