the 15/16 picks

Post by viper » Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:00 pm

I figure this is an area where discussions can take place. How do you go in a slot where you know about every stud will be gone by the time you pick next. I am curious how your leagues went.

In NY6 most of us were a bit surprised by the 15/16 selection. Let me say that time will tell on every possibility and who knows what works but I must admit that in all my draft preparations I never considered Carpenter/Oswalt. This team may have the last laugh on the rest of us but I wait to see his team and what type of power/overall hitting his team has.

I had pick 15 (by choice) in LV3 and went with Figgins/Reyes to hopefully corner the market on speed as well as get a decent middle infield plus versatility. Oswalt was available at the end of round 3 and I took him. Of course, one pulled hammy and the season is over.

We went Beltran/Utley. Felt like we had to take a risk with Beltran.

I absolutely hated picking 15- it was our last choice and we still got it. I may change my mind but I doubt I will come back next year unless blind bidding is in. It is just too much money to leave your draft pick up to random chance.

The worst part about it is the waiting 30 picks before picks- you are simply forced to go best available player for your team every time. No supply/demand analysis that may let you take a calculated risk to pass on a position or category one more time.

Chest, I had # 15 as my last choice also. Having said that, I picked # 15 last year and won my league. But to this point, I think I am the only one to pick that low and win my league.

Somehow in the Ultimate 2 League in Tampa we were able to get Johan/Chone with our 15/16 so we were pleasantly shocked.

I hear you- and I think we have a chance to repeat although there are some strong teams in our league. My point is more how much more I enjoy the drafting experience from another slot, and how another slot suits are drafting style.

If I lose it will not be because I drafted 15th.. not trying to make that the point.

I took David Wright and C. Beltran with 15/16 in Chi. 2. Beltran is too good a player to not bounce back.

Wow.. if Abreu and Young were both available, thats a no-brainer. They were both gone early in my league.

I elected - and got - a late slot (1st choice was 12th, second was 13th). Took Santana and MCabrera. Don't like the 15/16 because, as was said, the 29-pick wait is unbearable. One run on a given position (Cs, CLs) can really cripple you. You have to be the one who starts the run - not the guy who gets stuck at the end of it.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Yes two years now with the 15 pick. How about you did you do any better than 14th pick this year?
