Jeff Butler & Jeff Dobies On STATS Fantasy Advantage

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Feb 13, 2013 2:56 pm

Tonight's STATS Fantasy Advantage show on SiriusXM 210/87 will feature an interview at 7:15 pm ET with Jeff Butler of Hayes, Virginia, our defending NFBC XII champion. We look forward to talking with Jeff and analyzing last year's winning roster. Jeff signed up last night for the NFBC Main Event and NFBC XII Online on Saturday, March 30th, so now you know where to find him on Draft Day!!

We also will have Jeff Dobies of Farmingville, New York on the show tonight at 8:15 pm ET. Jeff and Andy Saxton teamed up to win last year's NFBC Auction Championship title. We're not having only Jeff on the show because he is the better looking of the two. :? It's because he's now won 2 overall Auction titles in 3 years, having also won the NFBC Auction Championship in 2010. It will be fun to talk about the auction format and go over some Mixed Dollar Values for 2013. Jeff and Andy sure put together a fantastic pitching staff last year and their offense also held up well. Great job guys.

We're on from 7-9 pm ET. We'll lead off with the Michael Bourn signing, Ryan Braun's draft status so that Tom can tell it like it is 8-) and then a little bit on Felix Hernandez's draft status since he signed his $175 million extension.

In the second hour, we'll look at last night's LABR Mixed League Draft and all of the surprises there. You'll be surprised by some of the early round picks from the industry's top writers. We'll also analyze Rounds 3-6 in the NFFC Trendsetters draft that is being held now. The Quarterbacks flew off the board in the Fifth Round. Tune in to hear all about it.

We have a great show planned for tonight. See ya there.

ALL IN,
Nice job bro....or should I say "King"? :)

Save some of that dominance for NYC Weekend 2 as we defend...dont use it all in Vegas. You forgot to tell the audience how critical middle relievers are....and how thats always a focus:)

Greg,
Hey if he is the brains of the operation...at least give me the looks win over Jeff......I guess I win the most hair battle too..but I seem to be rapidly getting closer to Jeff in that as well.

MUFASA AMBROSIUS!!!! 8-) I like the sound of it.

Man, they opened Dobies' segment with the Lion King theme song and I couldn't resist. It's one of my all-time favorite movies and I didn't even request the intro. But it was perfect for the King of Auctions, Mr. Jeff Dobies.

Both Jeffs were great tonight, but Mr. Dobies gave some great insights into the auction format. That was what we needed to spread the word about auctions. I thought it went very well. And remember Andy, I've never met Jeff; I've only met you. So I don't know who is better looking, but Jeff SOUNDS nice on the radio!!!! He did us well.

I thought the show went well tonight. We had a couple of callers and we had some solid draft data for baseball and football. We had a snafu getting Sammy the STATS Man in at first, but once we got past that we cruised. I like the format of this 2-hour show and I think in March we'll have an avalanche of data and trends. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Okay, time to plug some more NFBC contests with some new NFBC guests. Who's next?

I think it's time to roll out the DOUGHBOYS!

Just make sure not to mention anything relating to ADP or "Value" - or you're going to have to bring him back after the commercial break.

First Matt, I resent the 'rolling out' part' of that. :D

Second, I listened tonight, I gave up, 'value' was all over the place

Third, I should never be seen or heard :!:

While Jeff Dobies stole the show last night with his great auction insight, 8-) we did get some nice data points from Sam Lubeck, better known as Sammy the STATS Man. We lead off each show with Sammy's data points on the players involved in transactions that week and this week we talked about Michael Bourn. Here are his insights on Bourn, the new No. 1 pick Miguel Cabrera and Felix Hernandez:

Michael Bourn
- 257 SB since 2008 - 55 more than any other MLB player (Juan Pierre 202)
- 5 straight seasons of 40+ SB - no other player had 40+ SB in 2011 & 2012
- incredibly reliable - just one trip to DL in MLB career, back in 2007
- over last 2 seasons, stole 15 bases in 33 games vs. AL teams, while hitting .333 (47/141)

Bourn’s ADP in the NFBC is 52. One thing I liked last year was a little more run production as he had a career-high 9 homers and 57 RBIs. He also scored 96 runs and he always hits .270+. He’s not your normal Judy hitter who just gets SBs, is he?
Should we be at all concerned that his SB success rate is going down each year? He’s led the AL in caught stealing each of the last two seasons, but he’s still successful at an 80% clip.

Okay, once Ryan Braun was named on the Biogenesis ledgers, he fell from our No. overall spot. Replacing him has been Miguel Cabrera. Can you make a case for him going No. 1 overall?

Miguel Cabrera
- first Triple Crown winner since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967
- 30+ HR, 100+ RBI & 180+ hits in last 6 seasons. Only other player with such stats in 2011 and 2012 was Braun
- BA of .320+ in last 4 seasons. No other player had .320 BA in both 2011 and 2012
- since 2004, most RBI in MLB (1061), 8 more than Pujols
- since 2004, only Pujols (1009) and Derek Jeter (942) have scored more runs than Cabrera (922)

Felix Hernandez signed a 7-year, $175 contract this week, yet there is concern about soreness in his elbow. What should we make of that and should it be a concern to fantasy owners?

While Felix Hernandez has had 230+ IP in each of the last four seasons, only two active pitchers have put together more 230-inning seasons.

Active Pitchers, Most Seasons with 230+ IP

Roy Halladay 6 (only 25 starts last season after back-to-back 230-IP seasons)
CC Sabathia 5
Mark Buehrle 4
Felix Hernandez 4

Comparison to Mark Prior - 211.1 IP in 2003, and then 118.2 IP in 2004. Last played in MLB in 2006.

The Mets really needed Bourn, but the new rules could have penalized them their first round pick, which was 11th overall. They now enter 2013 with an outfield of Lucas Duda, Mike Baxter and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Could this be for the worst outfield in MLB history?

Mets OF, 2012 Season (w/ MLB ranks)

BA .238* (27th)
Runs 221 (29th)
HR 55 (17th)
RBI 206 (t-24th)
SB 35 (t-28th)

* The .238 BA was the second lowest in Mets franchise history.

Nice work Sammy. Sorry Mets' fans, but .238 might not be reachable this year with THAT outfield!!
