What are you waiting for???

Post by RotoGut-Vlad » Tue Feb 26, 2013 11:18 am

Fellas -

Only 3 to 4 people in each Rotowire OC league this upcoming weekend? What's going on??

Early bird gets the worm. Jump on your value plays and take advantage of ADP and come draft this weekend! There's no way we can allow for these weekend's leagues to NOT fill up!

Join one of my two leagues this weekend and I'll pay for your 2014 RotoWire Online Draft Kit for each person who finishes higher than me in the league standings. ;)

I understand the risk with Spring Training injuries, but there's no better time than early March to jump on value plays for those who have been prepping for since Dec / Jan. Many of us have a good idea who the next Ency / Headley / Dickey / Rodney may be, and many of those guys won't be available in the rounds you want them in late March. Plus, what better way (besides slow drafts) to prep for Main and other big events than a online 12'er? And 50k grand prize. Take advantage of the skewed ADP!

Pull out those credit cards, fellas! :)

Hard to prep for the main event with a 12 teamer .The best drafts are all 15 teamers not 12 .

the prevailing thought here seems to be that the 15-team leagues are the "pro" format while the 12-team leauges are for the masses

sure, but all the non-live 15-teamers are satellites - no overall prizes. Some good cash available to win here in OC.

Okay, I'll stop beating the dead-horse - just want stir the natives and drum up some entries. Would love some solid competition in my leagues.

This attitude is so silly. The prevailing thought by who? The charter members? The club that has the NFBC's ear? Come on this is naive at best. The 12 team satellites will continue to feed new players to both the 12 and 15 team main events. In football the 12 team is the premier event even thought the 14 team concept originated here. Which would you rather win? The only reason the NFBC XII hasn't gotten the attention it deserves is because its top prize is only 50k. Raise the entry, level the playing field so to speak and then watch what game everyone plays.

The masses and (so called) pro's alike will gravitate to the highest paying overall game and if it's equal the 12 team event will overtake the 15 team event in no time. Obviously this is just my opinion.

I love Joe. I poke fun at him and the number 12 in Fantasy Camp, but you have to love the passion with which he supports the 12 team format.
There's no right or wrong choice here. And certainly there's no pro or amateur choice. Or 'Club' of NFBC charter members...at least that I know about. Just a lot of die hard folks that enjoy their own or all formats.
Remembering when ANY fantasy choice was tough to find, I revel in all the different fantasy leagues we can join now.
I know a fellow or two in the NFBC that enjoy the daily leagues more. There's nothing wrong with that at all. We play whatever drives us to be better in fantasy baseball. And we play whatever we enjoy the most.
Squabbling over which format is best is silly. The best one is the one we personally enjoy the most.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

it's easy to field a "good on paper" football team in a 12 team format than a 14 team format. IMO, football owners want instant gratification. That is why the H2H format is so popular. It's no surprise the 12 team format overtook the 14 team format.

i don't believe the average nfbc owner sees it that way.

to me, football owners are simplistic in nature, while baseball owners are more complex

Good points but the masses that joined the NFFC last season came from the organization that went under and they were all playing 12 team events before that I believe. Were our players better, I don't think so. I understand what you're saying, I just think it's more a product of what people are used to playing (and this group is used to the 15 team event) and the prize structure. Possibly someday they'll raise the entry of the 12 team event and then we'll see.

Very well stated Dan, Thanks. I just get a little carried away because I think the negative comments drives players away from the NFBC XII and that format needs support right now.

Who wants a game where everyone gets a good team .In 12 man leagues this is the norm .Where 15 man is a better game because not everyone gets a good team .You have to do a much better job of drafting in 15 than 12 . In 12 much better faab players to be had .Not the case in 15 .I'll stick to 15 you can have the 12 teamers money not me .

I play them both but it's not even close for me. The quality of the players in FAAB is way too high in a 12 team mixed league. Much prefer 15 team leagues.

What you and the naysayers are missing out on, is that your experience and ability in recognizing the free agent pool, along with your own teams weaknesses (yes you'll have them) gives you a decided advantage against (what I will use for the sake of a better word) the masses. Continue to miss out on the opportunity that is staring you and others in the face. All of the players you recognize as "Pros" have seen the light and can be found in last seasons top 20 in mass. You don't shy away from them in the 15 team main event.

Continue to shy away, this will be your game someday when down the road the NFBC evens the playing field. The ROI this year in the NFBC XII will probably again be the best proposition that the NFBC offers. Next year they may re-evaluate and double the carrot to bring in the masses and believe me, you and the others will follow.

It is still small potatos when compared to the main .The main is DOUBLE THE MONEY .Much more for winning the league much more money bottom line .Like you just stated Money same players in both so why not spend a little more $$ and shoot for the biggest carrot .

I think part of the problem is that if it wasn't for Joe, most of us wouldn't even know there was a XII with the amount of (or lack of) play it gets around here. Hype sells.

That said, if given the choice between playing ONLY the Main Event or the XII......umm, enough said.

Please do some math and figure out the ROI. Last year 420 players played in the Main event (all pro's). In the NFBC they had 252. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the return per player (when all prize purses are calculated) is greater even with the lower carrot. I cannot continue to try to explain this. Hopefully next year these are equal 100k contests and then we'll see.

Glenn, my friend, you had multiple XII teams last year and will probably do so again this year. To do an "Either or" is simply not realistic. I read somewhere that they average participant in the NFBC has 4 teams.

I look forward to spending some time in Vegas!!
