That's because you have to go back to the days of daguerreotypes to find photographic evidence of great yanks
Go Phillies!

You two need to stop embarrassing yourselves. The reason there are no pictures of Yankees or Phillies in this Countdown and why it's dominated by Mets is quite obvious. The Mets are America's team.
Still, since I feel for you guys as your teams descend into the depths of cellar dwelling this season, I guess your teams can get some representation.
To all my Yankees and Phillies brethren out there, not all is lost......

I believe recent evidence has shown that Doc was a clean upstanding citizen until crossing the bridge over to the Bronx. Once joining the Yankees unfortunately, the naive innocent young man that he was in Queens was negatively influenced by the criminal element that filled the clubhouse at Yankee Stadium. It goes to reason after all, it's not that big a jump from Yankees pinstripes to prison stripes.

Team picture of the 1927 New York Yankees. They weren't called Murderer's Row for nothing.

Look at those Championship flags. There's a couple more I think but I'd have to get a jpg from the blimp. Or a satellite image ! I guess crime pays huh ?

Amazing how far he has fallen in life... A judge just threw him out of his house after he threatened his wife.

If you every collected baseball cards, this is the one you always kept and was never traded away even if you had extras...Thurmon Munson!
I think that is Fisk trying to score.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

How about the 1971 (Torre*) and the 1972 (Allen) MVP's
* Torre wore #9 with the Cardinals when he won the MVP, but we are on #15 and I like this picture of him with the Milwaukee Braves better

Thanks for posting that link Russ. It sure brought back memories. My grandfather was an avid Yankee fan and I probably would've followed in his footsteps if not for the Phillie fan in my life...mom
A few "numbers" back you had us guess who a player was, and I didn't know but thought, that guy looks like Bobby Murcer. Glad I kept it to myself (til now

)

Wonder what would happen today if SI had a cover with a pro athelete with a Marlboro hanging out the corner of his mouth...

Was thinking the same thing Wayne. I know that at the time cigarettes were not thought to be as detrimental to your health, but c'mon man...setting fire to ANYTHING an inhaling it into your lungs can't be good. I'm sure he must've noticed that running got harder after he took up the cigs, I mean really......you make your living w/ your body dude....think

Don't care what kind of fan you are or what team you are rabid for, YOU JUST GOTTA LOVE any player whose mantra is "Let's play two!"
Kind of the anti-Kevin Youkilis...

Me with the statue of Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks
The statue was unveiled on Opening Day 2008 just outside and to the left of the Wrigley Field Marquee.
Do you see the error in the photo??? The sculptor engraved LETS instead of LET'S. I know they talked about getting it fixed, but I'm not really sure if they ever have.

Who wants clam chowdah?
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.
