Sack Amusings

Post by Sack » Wed Mar 13, 2013 12:39 am

I dedicate this to my pal MTM.

Up late, but unlike you over the last few months I'm burning the midnight oil so that I can dispose of
you once again on March 29th. I just came across something in the Shandler Forecaster that had me think
of your sorry plight.

AARON LAFFEY Capsule could read Mike Massotto: Just change the first line to "If you're considering adding an NFBC
League over the $150 price point, ( I'll let you look up the next line in the Forecaster - this way when you get to Vegas
you can tell everybody you at the very least opened your book! ) .......................

Now, before you post another fantastic picture of me or take a shot at my job or physical shape I'd like you to know that
I'm doing these late night studies with some White Castles, SACK of fries, and a Vanilla Milk Shake. Going to be fun
kicking your cocky ass once again. Hey Mr Lowy, did you realize Mikey has yet to beat me? Ah yes, a FORUM moment.
Another missed opportunity to pick up some knowledge. Who Love's ya Mikey? ;)

Hey Mr. Magner. Yes, I'm also up at an ungodly hour getting some studying in. Though I'll admit I'd probably still be asleep if BOTH my girls hadn't woke my wife and me up with the croop last night! :o  :?
Well at least with the steam/cold air treatments now complete and them in my bed with my wife, it's given me the excuse and opportunity to use this extra hour or two to freshen up on a few players.

I do recall that conversation at First Pitch. I also recall the text you received while there. :D

It was great seeing you, Rich, Todd, the Ice Cream Man and a few others that day. I did notice that Mikey was conspicuous by his absence this year. I mean if anyone needed to be there after last season, you'd think.... :? :D

See you in Vegas in a little over a week Bud. It should be a blast once again.

PS....By the way, you should make this a weekly series as well. ;)

well, since we're in the bash MTM Official thread and you have perspectives from a NFBC Hall of Famer and 2 ArchEnemies( Sack/Glenneration Dude), here's one from a NFBC Rookie(Moi)..., Drafted against Masotto in $150 DC10 League, and Yeah I was the Idiot that missed the start of the draft, timing out my first 2 picks and AP my first 4(Hamilton/Stanton/KingF/Cain)... And yet , I don't know if you have the same conclusion, but mine is that MTM is one of the worst drafters I've ever come across with, in 12/13 years playing Fantasy baseball(yeah in CBS and ESPN leagues), with all disrespect, I mean due respect, guy's drafting skills are terrible,I was drafting 14 and he was @ the wheel for 46 picks!!! and he took the player I wanted once, just once!!!!, took ryan Madson @ #253, I had to settle for Infante for my MI spot......, Thanks for not taking my players..., and before you go , "worry about your team..., yada yada yada,", there's 2 teams in that league($150 DC10) i'll never worry about, One, Powerslave(It was drafted with amazing skill and precision) and two, Baseball Fairies(why would I worry about a team with 12-15 place upside??)....., my 2 cents....

Powerslave:

Pretty funny stuff. Just know that all of the MTM bashing done here is simply tongue and cheek.
Despite appearing to come down hard on him, it is really all in good fun. One of the best things about these
live drafts for the NFBC are the friendships you make along the way. Mike is a good guy, he just sux when the
stakes are raised! ;)

It has been fun shutting his mouth, because when you beat him ( as I always do - right Glen? )
he'll still have something to say. However, he doesn't get to have the last word. Champ Steve - very good
point you've brought up. There are in fact thousands who have beaten Mikey, so maybe I shouldn't be so
happy in regard to this MINOR ( Mouth - this is a PITCHER........you should actually consider ) accomplishment.

Glen, sorry the family is under the weather, hope everybody bounces back quickly. Where is the Mouth?
Probably working on another awful edition of the Mouth Musings! Hey Mikey - did you get the Iron Balls straightened
out yet?

Maybe all this banter will gain us some attention the next time Doughy"s class is in session!

Interesting you brought up Mike and his "bad' drafts... I was new to the boards a few years ago and Mike posted his team on one of the threads, I absolutely killed it... awful, terrible, no pitching, too many risks, holes everywhere... etc. Well, he was in my league that year, where I finished last and he finished 3rd. I will never bash Mike's drafts (to his face) ever again. He is a (borderline) smart guy and knows (most of) his stuff. :D

Well, I appologize if I was too harsh on my "scouting report", plus I forgot to put some smily faces too  ..., I just wish I had more money to buy into some MTM and Gekko leagues......, that will change next year...

True that Sack. Full disclosure MtM did in fact take me down in a slow a while back. So I'm not in the above group photo. However the few losing to MtM have formed our own support group.

Wow Mikey, making great first impressions as usual I see. ;)

In all seriousness Powerslave....Mikey and I aren't arch enemies. We're arch smack posters. He's actually just the loudest of a group of us East Coasters that show our respect and friendship for each other by trashing each other.
It's the New York way. :)

Now your take on his drafting skills, that I won't dispute at all.

PS....Ken, thanks for the well wishes towards my girls. All better now. I appreciate it Bud.

Rather than respond to my good pals from the NFBC each individually on this thread (except for you, Mr. Hernan-Cortes Batista aka Powerslave, better late than never, Marcel clone that you are... ;) I thought I would just say this:

I have been very fortunate in this my 7th season of competing in the NFBC to have made such great friends with so many amazing people who I have had the sincere pleasure of getting to know because of this competition, many of whom I have yet to meet in person or even speak to on the phone for that matter. Despite this, I can honestly say that it has become like a brotherhood or fraternity for me in my relationship to all of you sharing in this crazy obsession that is fantasy baseball. Yes, we all do like to mercilessly bust each others balls, rip on each others knowledge, skill, and drafting acumen, and talk trash about and to each other at every possible opportunity. But at the end the day, there isn't a thing I wouldn't do for you guys having gotten to know the kind of people that you are and your level of character as individuals (well at least most of you ;) ). It is a rare thing for sure to be able to create such strong bonds and friendships so late in life, and all because we just love to play this game with a passion. Maybe it just brings out the best in all of us when we get to escape real life for a while and just play as we did as kids so many years ago when it didn't matter who you were, where you were from, or what kind of toys you had. You were just happy to go outside and hang out with your buds and talk and do stuff with kids that liked the same kind of things that you did. And that was enough to say that you were friends and that you'd see each tomorrow when it got dark and your mom was yelling out the window for you to come home for dinner...It was pure and simple and you remember those days and the names and faces of those kids like it was yesterday. And if you ran into one of them 20 years later, you could just pick up the conversation where you'd left off and just get back to being buds again like old times, kind of like we all do when we reconvene in the draft rooms and live events each year to play again together.
Just thought I'd share that now just about a week out from when I will actually get to meet so many of you guys for the first time. While I am very much excited to be going out to Vegas to compete and play with the best of the best there is in this game, I'm actually most looking forward to meeting so many of you guys out there for the first time to perhaps spend a few hours hanging out with my buds again this year, only this time in person. I'm sure it will be a be a memorable experience for us all. :D

Every community has its way Joe. I do understand that some of you Southern folk have your own way of showing "kinship".

Great post Mike!

Glenn, I know you do not understand how we do things down here. Afterall, the most famous citizen in New York plays guitar in his underwear. We do that too, but we keep it inside the trailer. And we don't call it "art", just laundry day!

You ever get a chance to come down here, I will have Uncle-Daddy cook up some catfish stew and I will fill you in on some of the finer Southern nuances!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

all I know is that I have done 2 slow drafts this year with Mr Massotto and he has kept the drafts moving and entertaining with his commentaries
