Just like Lou Gehrig, we have been there every day for 10 straight years and now it's down to 4 days before we give our famous speech at the Bellagio Sportsbook!! "Today...today....today.....I consider myself....myself...myself, the luckiest man on the face of the earth." (complete with echoes).

Yeah baby, 4 DAYS!! Bring on the pictures!!

The East Coast looks like it's getting hit again today with another snowstorm. What a brutal winter. I just drove into the office this morning and it said 9 degrees. 9!!! On St. Patrick's Day. Crazy. I'm ready for ANY sunshine and warmth, so make it happen for us Las Vegas. Make it happen. 8-)

I can tell you the weather is beautiful and it should remain that way through next Monday or longer, haven't looked. I expect this place to be crazy today for St. Patrick's Day!! Looks like we got out of NY just in time!! OK, should get some more sleep :)
OH, and Saxton, my next draft will be Friday morning for the NFBC XII, live in Las Vegas at Bellagio! ;) ;)

Thanks for that picture, Glenn. One of my favorites. I think it is on a Topps '62 baseball card too, but I may be mistaken about the year.
That picture is courtesy of Babe Ruth.
Gehris and Ruth had quit talking to each other for years leading up to this hug. There was a spat between there wives. In turn, it spread to each player backing their wife and their friendship dissolved. Gehrig had just finished his speech. After his final words, there was a silence. The crowd stunned by his words. Then a tumutuous cheering followed. Some said the loudest old Yankee Stadium had ever heard.

Photogaphers moved in for their best shots of Gehrig. Ruth put aside his differences, whether it was for 'the moment' or a photo op and hugged his old friend. I like to believe it was more than a photo op. Ruth was one of the first to visit Gehrig on his death bed. No photographers were there.

As in life, they were in death. Gehrig choosing a more private funeral.
Ruth was laid in state for two days and two nights inside gate 4, behind home plate at Yankee Stadium.
The number of visitors to see him was estimated to be in the six figures.

Wow, I put a little bit of a downer on this thread!
Let's see some more Gehrig!!!

Here is a picture of Ruth and Gary Cooper from Pride of the Yankees

For those that have seen the movie, here is a great review of the action scenes. Did they reverse the footage???
It takes a couple of minutes to read, but well worth it.

Some footage in the movie was reversed. Cooper was not an athlete. Being right handed, he did not look natural at all in swinging a bat left handed. They had him bat right handed and take off towards third base and reversed the footage of batting scenes.

Just an fyi, in the movie, "I consider myself...' was the last line of Gehrig's speech. In reality, it was the second line of his speech.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

MARCH MADNESS IN LAS VEGAS IS HERE!! LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!

I don't know if any MLB player ever wore the number 0, but the late great Jim Otto of the Oakland Raiders -- and a native of northern Wisconsin -- wore 00 back in the 1960s and '70s. In honor of Jim Otto, we now have double zero days to March Madness!! :D :D

Yesterday was a travel day for Tom and I, so we apologize for being out of touch. It was a long, long travel day with the weather, but we arrived safely. Dennis and Mike are here as well to help with the live drafts. Last night at the Bellagio sportsbook, we hooked up with Chad Schroeder, Rick Thomas, Shawn Childs and Steve Jupinka!! Now that's a team you can win with!! It was GREAT to see everyone again and everyone is ready for some fun and competition. Should be a blast.

Bring on the fun photos everyone!! We are ready to start this thing!! The NCAA Viewing Party starts at 4 pm in Monet 1 and we'll be down by the Bellagio sportsbook this morning to watch all of the early game action. See you there.

EVERYONE CELEBRATE!! The NFBC live drafting season is about to begin!!
