Not a big surprise. He's not in their long-term plans anyway. Just means they can't get anything for him in a trade this year (not that they'd have gotten much anyway). The contract is most likely insured so, in a way, it's a great way to get $25 million off the books.

But, agreed.. he was not in their plans this year, so they will be just fine, with their young arms and he will be off the books next year, so they can get a few bats. Unlike the Yankees, who are going down hill fast and are old and tired (how much do the Yankees owe Arod again?), the Mets future is bright, with many good young players.

Wheeler will be here sooner than later. Just got back from florida and saw him pitch twice.... He is the real thing...

Yup.. this thread is hilarious. Its funny how Yankee fans are so obsessed with putting down the Mets, while their own team is fading away. Good news for Yankee fans... Lyle Overbay starting at first base!!
