So round two of the Auctions were this past weekend with many familiar faces. Having drafted with some of the same guys in Vegas too I wanted to change it up a bit from a player standpoint but certainly wanted to stick with the same overall game plan. In both drafts I did indeed stick to my guns (but did open up the purse strings on the rare occasion) and mostly watched for the first 60-90 minutes. Auction Championship Team II is:
C Martin
C Ruiz (got skunked on Kratz in the reserves so I have to roll with Mesaroco for the first month)
1B Swisher (passed on every 1B until Belt and then got bid up to 16 and let him go, Swisher at $7 the consolation)
2B Utley (couldn't believe I got him for $11)
SS Asdrubal
3B Freese (rostered Nelson to cover Freese the first few weeks)
MI Altuve
CI Seager
OF Melky
OF Pence
OF Beltran
OF Aoki
OF Ichiro
UT Marte
P Darvish (paid $23, thought it was a good price)
P Harvey
P Kuroda
P Niese
P Lynn
P Ryu
P Ogando
P Frieri
P Janssen
Team is definitely going to be short on power. Love the pitching with big upside potential. Only nabbed two closers and they arent necessarily sure bets to finish the season as closers.
Last Auction was the NY Grand Daddy, the 1300. Traditionally a very tough league. Once again a lot of the same guys knowing who each other likes so I definitely changed it up grabbing Jackie Bradley for $2 and Parra for $4 right out of the shoot. Still stayed patient but jumped in a lot more during the first 90 minutes. When all was said and done:
C AJ Ellis
C Ruiz (rostered Nick Hundley to cover first month)
1B Laroche
2B Phillips
SS Desmond
3B A. Ramirez
MI Rollins
CI C. Davis
OF Bradley
OF Parra
OF Choo
OF Reddick
OF Saunders
UT Ichiro
P Sabathia
P Kuroda
P Ryu
P Lynn
P Haren
P Cobb
P Janssen
P Balfour
P Parnell
Very, very high on the offense. Do not think I could have drafted better six MI and CI. Obviously will need Bradley and Parra to perform. Not as high on this staff but still some upside there and got three closers.
I was very pleased with how all of the Auctions turned out but baseball is marathon not a sprint. Looking forward to the season and good luck to all this year! Now let's play ball!!!
Auctions NY
Re: Auctions NY
Being in 4 auctions this year (3 with Dobies), including the Ultimate in Vegas, I took on basically the same strategy in all of the auctions - Big hitters - light on starters. I typically spent between $175 and $190 on hitting. As with my main event teams, I loaded up on top infielders.. Here is my $1,300 auction, with an amazing cast of top auction drafters, and in my opinion the most competitive auction I have ever been a part of, including the Ultimate (which in my mind was the strangest auction I have seen as far as strategy)
$1,300 team (If Halladay bounces back, my pitching looks a lot better)

Re: Auctions NY
Jeff - good luck this year. I will miss the $1,300 auction, but couldn't get the fill in to do both that and the MTM Super. The auction is still my favorite league though and I plan to be back next year.
Best of luck to all in this league!
Emilio, thanks for stopping by to say hello!

Re: Auctions NY
In the Ultimate, Not to say these teams will not compete, it was just a lot of punting categories, right from the beginning. One team went with the reliever strategy, only drafting 2 starters, another team spent over $60 on closers (Kimbrel/Chapman/Mariano) and punted BA, one team, who was remote, with Greg A. doing the bidding for him, went with the strong pitching/speed strategy and punted power, then of course Dobies did his thing with the evenly balanced team, not taking one guy over $18 until the end, when he bought his highest priced player, Brian Roberts, for $23Chthroop wrote:Great draft i agree. It was just all over the place... Of course all of these methods can work and have worked, but seeing all of them in one auction was very strange.
After all of that, I didn't like my team that much, compared to the other auctions I was in.
Here it is, a little light on pitching:
C) Molina, Lucroy
1B) Pujols
2B) Kipnis
3B) Freese (Callaspo in FAAB)
SS) Desmond
MI) Scutaro
CI) Cuddyer (Trumbo)
OF) Giancarlo, Victorino, Revere, Trumbo, Gutierrez (Cuddyer)
UT) Ortiz (Dominquez in FAAB)
SP) Strasburg, Kuroda, E Jackson, W Davis, B Norris, Blanton, Marcum (E Santana, Billingsley, Wheeler)
CL) Cishek, Wilhelmson (Bailey)
