Harvey vs Halladay

Ok, so I am a Mets fan, but anyone can see that this matchup tonight shows the end of one career and the beginning of another. The dominance of Harvey was not as obvious tonight, but he worked out of a few jams and still put up pretty impressive numbers... on the other hand, Halladay is just a mess. We may be seeing the end... a guy who was known for complete games and dominance, hasn't thrown a complete game since 2011 and is really just a shell of what was one of the games best pitchers.. Though I am hardly sad to see the Phillies suffer, I do feel for this guy. From 2002-2011, he threw double the amount of complete games than anyone in MLB. He "was" a throwback pitcher. A guy who completed his games. What a concept... Sad to see the end.

This is definitely a changing of the guard that we are witnessing in this game. Doc gets lit up for 7 ER in 4+ IP( although 2 inherited runners scored after he left game) and his velocity and command just are not there. He will have to re-invent himself into a different type of pitcher or else this could get very ugly very fast. Maybe the strain of those 66 CG's are starting to show up in his arm.Just as a side note to this, they announced during the game that Doc's next win would be #200. There is currently only one other active SP with 200 or more wins....Andy Pettitte with,I believe, 246 wins.( T. Hudson is at 198). That clearly shows that there is a changing of the guard between the older SP's and the hot new young SP's playing now and soon to reach MLB, and young Matt harvey is certainly one of them.

It looks like the era or benchmark of 300 wins is long gone.
200 wins looks to be the new bar.

Blame it on the 5 man rotation or the emergence of the closer, but it's gone.
Even with a 162 game schedule.

Now imagine 511 wins!
That's why the man has an award named after him, I guess.

For much of the off-season, Halladay's ADP in the NFBC was around 90 and Harvey's was around 144. But when spring training came around and Doc was knocked around pretty heavily (along with getting sick), his ADP fell to around 115. Meanwhile, Harvey looked very impressive this spring and he quickly moved into the Top 120. By Second Weekend, Harvey was consistently going ahead of Halladay. Heck, in one New York League he went four rounds ahead of Halladay. It's definitely a changing of the guard and after watching his first two starts this year, it's obvious that Harvey has the stuff of an elite ace. He could be a Top 10 SP very soon and a mainstay in the Top 3 rounds for years to come.

I second that thought ,Tom. As draft day approached I kept moving him up my ranking sheets. I even pushed him up an entire tier the day before the Main Event. It was not nearly enough as he just flew off the board more than a round earlier than I had anticipated.I just wonder if this kid from Miami,Jose Fernandez, is the real deal. I'm sure he'll go for megabucks in FAAB this weekend,especially if his next start goes well.
