Notes to Players
This could be fun. Post a note to your favorite (or least favorite) player. I will get us started with a couple:
Dear Barry - sorry that I ever doubted you. Not only can you still pitch, you are a better hitter than half of my lineup.
Dear Miggy - thanks for letting Torii hit in front of you.

Dear Matt Harvey: As a Mets fan I am really sorry that I don't have you rostered on any of my teams this year, and after watching your first two games this season, trust that I'm even more sorry.
Dear Carlos Marmol: #&@% you.

Ha Mike, if you read some of my stuff the last thing you'd be calling me is a writer.headhunters wrote:dear glen- THAT is what happens when you become more of a writer and less of a player- signed carlos and matt. ps, from all the nfbc players- since you are top 5 team we are thrilled you have carlos not matt- otherwise you would haver 4350 points and thanks for playing for the rest of us.

Re: Notes to Players
Dear Matt Kemp- thank you for your awful start out of the gate( 3 for 25,0 HR/2 RBI,0 SB). It makes me feel so glad that I took you at 1.5 instead of reaching for Justin Upton.

Dear Eric Wedge
While I appreciate your loyalty to young players and I know what a fine spring Brandon Maurer had, I would really appreciate it if you could find it in your heart to skip his next start against the Rangers and give my aching ERA a break from the last 7 run 2/3 IP Astro debacle. There is just no way for Kershaw and Baumgarner to balance out a 16.2 ERA!
Thank you.

Re: Notes to Players
Yo Jim Leyland - in between cigarettes you should actually watch the bleeping game - Porcello gave you five good innings, had his pitch count run up and then sat through a very long bottom of the 5th in cold weather. If your pitching coach wasn't smart enough to tell you to change pitchers you should have figured it out yourself.
Thanks for blowing not only a game for your own worthless W/L record and the team's chance for a W, but ruining a fine outing in poor conditions by Porkcello.

Re: Notes to Players
Kemp had some nice swings tonight, I think he's on the verge of a breakout streak. Justin Upton - he's an Upton, the disappointment is coming. I think you made the right choice there.mlbbug wrote:Dear Matt Kemp- thank you for your awful start out of the gate( 3 for 25,0 HR/2 RBI,0 SB). Re: Notes to Players
110-115 games for Quentin would be a "healthy" season for him. Worse for fantasy owners, that's 1-2 games of rest every week.headhunters wrote:dear carlos quentin- i see you are now hurt- what took you so long? you are making youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk look like cal ripkin.

I don't think we've ever agreed more on a Cub and a Met in one conversation Glenn!Glenneration X wrote:Dear Matt Harvey: As a Mets fan I am really sorry that I don't have you rostered on any of my teams this year, and after watching your first two games this season, trust that I'm even more sorry.
Dear Carlos Marmol: #&@% you.
Although I do have one Matt Harvey and zero Marmols, I wish I had many more Harveys and I wish Marmol was pitching for a divsional opponent ... unfortunately St Louis is too smart, Milwaukee isn't that desperate yet, and the Reds and Pirates are in pretty good shape. If he had any balls, Carlos would simply walk away from the game and the money he is stealing from Chicago to live out his days as a wealthy rancher, which he seems to prefer quite a bit over working at being a major league pitcher.
Re: Notes to Players
John Buck,
I just want to reiterate our understanding that you are a mere seat-warmer both in fantasy and in reality. Once Travis D'Arnaud is 'ready', you're on the Mets' bench. Once Carlos Ruiz returns from suspension, you're waiver wire material in NFBC NY 2. This homerun-a-day kick you're on isn't fooling me one bit! (Er ... maybe just a little?
) It's a harsh world, we both know.

I disagree about J-Up, remember how Kemp blew up after the Dodgers got rid of Torre and Angry Larry ? J-Up is going full on breakout now that he's away from grouchy Gibby. He seems to be on a mission to prove DBacks made a mistake.
Always be closing.

Re: Notes to Players
Dear Giancarlo Stanton ,
I feel your pain as the first week of the season is coming to a close. I can only imagine your disdain as you look in the front row at Marlin Stadium and see Owner Jeffrey Loria and crew laughing and enjoying the ambience of the stadium while you waste one of your prime years trying to be a productive player on a team consisting of older aging players or players tossed aside from other clubs. But Please be patient and be assured your stay here in MIAMI probably will be short lived as the front office is getting their feelers out and setting up another Blockbuster Trade involving yourself which will bring in the next wave of talent that the Marlins won`t keep as they hit their productive years.Wish you well in another uniform.

As someone with BOTH Maurer and Josh Johnson AND Mitchell Boggs in a ME, I don't feel so good. 2 IP, 18 ER.

The night Maurer spit the bit, I also had Brandon McCarthy and Beckett with what looked like favorable matchups vs. SD and Pitt.
Oh fer 3! I ain't so smart.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Carlos Q (please note no "Mr." because you are not worthy of any respect):
Apparently, Stanford let's in idiots, because you are an idiot. I know Mr. Mattingly agrees.
Discernment is a gift. You should pray for discernment, because right now you are just a non-discerning idiot.
I hope you continue to get plunked - alot. And maybe if you get hit in the head it will miraculously help you.

Re: Notes to Players
This is the third time Grienke had hit Quentin, the second time a few years ago looked very intentional, and Quentin clearly remembered that incident. That was probably in his head before the series even began.
In game one of the series Quentin was hit in the wrist. Early in last night's game a ball was thrown up and in to Kemp, so Quentin was probably on guard for a possible plunking from Greinke and ready to take it personally no matter the game situation. After he got hit and took a few steps towards the mound Greinke said something to him that he clearly did not like, after which he charged. First time in his career he charged a guy as the league leader in HBP ratio; don't blame him given the circumstances. For the fight itself, I didn't see any malice, don't think he even took a swing, just a charge and pulled him to the ground. It's just unfortunate for Greinke that he's built like a schoolteacher and picked a fight with a linebacker.
I saw the Mattingly post-game response, which was every bit an emotional response equal to or greater than Quentin's charging the mound, repeatedly calling Quentin stupid/idiot with no knowledge of the game ... fact is, Mattingly had no knowledge of the history and has probably half the IQ of Quentin if we're going to start making comparisons in the "stupid" department. If Greinke doesn't get hurt, his post-game comments probably would have been, "well that's baseball".
There's always been a rivalry here, and generally not a nice one. Stand by for a war next series.

Mattingly is the idiot. He said afterwards that Quentin shouldn't be allowed to play til Greinke is able to pitch again. What if Greinke had broken Quentin's wrist w/ a pitch ? Do you think Bud Black would be yammering about how Greinke shouldn't be allowed to pitch until Q's wrist heals ? I doubt it.
I think if Greinke would've kept his mouth shut nothing happens, but as KJ mentioned he clearly said something that Q did not like and after being hit by this guy numerous times I don't blame him for going after that punk one bit.

often times - like 2 billion in my lifetime- intelligence, or lack there of; is blamed for some act. That was a man who was angry and lost control. disagree with kj completely- no excuse. for 100 years people in sports are allowed to do things that if they were walking the streets they would be put in jail. time to stop it in my opinion. Where it really hits home is youth sports where i got to watch adults allow girls to literally attack one another on a soccer field or b ball court in the name of sport. it is crap and it isn't being tough or "manly". it is just being a violent thug. quintin stands on top the plate. pitchers that throw 4 inches inside are going to hit him. Very few pitchers have that good of control and so most of them now just don't throw inside. PLUS quentin must have the slowest reflexes of any mlb hitter in history because most times he doesn't even move- or dives into the pitch. i don't care if grenkie hit him 50 times- it is HE who chooses to stand that close to the plate. he needs to man up and take the consequences every time not 3 out of 4 in grenkies case.

Quentin is a smart guy, which is why he's never charged the mound before. He knows he'll get hit on occasion, and he takes his base.headhunters wrote:often times - like 2 billion in my lifetime- intelligence, or lack there of; is blamed for some act. However, sometimes pitchers try intentionally to hit batters ... and how is that different from someone walking the street and zinging you with a 100-mph projectile? That could be jail time too. And suppose that happens, you have no right to defend yourself?
