As a group, I think most NFBC'ers are prone to reject change. It's a knee-jerk reaction.
We'll think, we have the best game in the world, why change it?
We forget that change is part of what made our game the best in the world. Twice a week lineup changes went under tremendous scrutiny and was talked about for years before becoming an important part of our game.
We've also tried many times to have more freedom for owners to use pitchers indifferent ways, but we have always come back to the system used now.
Personally, I favor rules that give owners more flexibility. KJ Duke brought up a dl list for the NFBC. More than the rule change option itself, the replies were more interesting. As expected most would reject the thought. And it got me thinking that we've become like an old political party. The possibility of ANY rule change of significant proportions will be difficult.
I don't know whether a dl list would be good or not. I really don't. I am firmly planted on the fence. But, I'm open minded about it.
I would back a one catcher only rule for rosters. Knowing it has no chance. It would be fighting tradition and a long standing rule. If our founders would have had one catcher for each league, it would be laughable to suggest that two would be better.
And even though the two catcher system was made for a 10 team league, it stands. I felt the pain two years ago after taking Buster Posey and having him get hurt. We can't recover. But most don't know that. It hasn't happened to them.
So, I bring up the one catcher thing, knowing it won't be supported.
The worst response to rule changes is 'it won't improve our game, just the strategy'. BAH!
And I don't mean that strictly for the dl, but for any rule.
They really have no idea whether it'll improve the game or not, it's just a nicer way of saying that change is off the board.
The same thing was said when we went to the twice a week lineup change.
It is ok to reject change. That, is easy. What has to be remembered, is that is also ok to embrace change.
Change is what has made the NFBC the great game that it is.

Good post Dan. I like to stick with tradition/familiarity at times, but I also like to explore changes and think about the consequences - sometimes you can make it better. With both the DL and 1-C plans I don't know if the outcome would be better or worse, but it's a worthy discussion.
Re: Change
Nice post Dough! I Agree with your thinking. If we fast forward 10 years there will be changes in the NFBC. They will happen gradually over the years. It's possible some of them will be "major" too. They will happen also because MLB will change too. Just this year they changed the interleague scheduling. It was subtle and did not recieve much attention, but it has affected the NFBC fantasy game or any fantasy league. No longer do we have to just pay attention to 2 periods of interleague play during the whole season but now the whole season. Lineups need to be looked at each week in regards to teams and players and who might or might not DH. Also ballpark and pitching matchups and there are other subtle impacts.
Re: Change
For the record, the original founding fathers league was a 12-team NL only league.
The lineup was chosen to best emulate a typical MLB league's roster which is why it was composed of 2C (along with CI, MI and UT).
Back then, the typical MLB roster was 15 hitters and 10 pitchers so they basically left out 1 hitter and 1 catcher.

Re: Change
I am participating in a league for the first time that allows pitcher changes on Friday (in addition to the hitters). I thought I would dislike this idea immensely but instead love it and would be a proponent of making that change for the NFBC. The flipside is that there for sure is some good to not changing too fast. NFBC has built a wonderful game that we all enjoy and we would all probably enjoy it a bit less if things changed drastically each year.
The catcher suggestion is an interesting one. I have Ruiz in a couple of leagues and toyed with the idea of just taking the zeros as opposed to picking someone up due to the amount of injured players I have. I guess this scenario ties into both the DL and the Catcher suggestions.
