You do what is dictated by the standings and your assets to maximize points -- it's not a one size fits all scenario.
It may behoove one contender to chase wins and K's while another may have more points within reach in saves.
Same goes for hitting. Depending on the stats distributions and your available players. one contender may chase every steal than can get while another needs homers to maximize their overall points.
That said, we're not at the point yet where micromanaging of categories is necessary - at least I don't think anyway. We're still in bully stage where the goal is to pump up counting stats across the board. One injury and the landscape changes.
