Right track, and I'm betting there is more than Salty, like the guy I was thinking of.... :)
His record was 0-1 and got a lot more press than Salty.

There have been 13 guys that have managed one game, but only one of them was married to Jane Fonda.

FWIW - Salty managed more than 1 game in his career for those fact checking.

Had to google Turner - that had completely escaped my memory and I hadn't begun drinking yet.

I was just wondering if he ever played with Pepper Martin....

I was 100% off the mark with Vukovich. He managed 2 games...

Great list. I didn't see it until later in the evening.

Like Todd, I had completely forgotten about Ted Turners 1 game.

I was also totally stumped on number 18 (One Year). Even after reading the answer it meant nothing to me. I've looked up Alston's career and I now assume it's "One Year" because he only played one season in the majors; although someone made a comment about 'one year' also applying to Lasorda, so I'm still not totally sure.

Thanks again for taking the time to write the list. :D

Your welcome. I like putting them together and most of the readers here are well versed in baseball and it's history, so it's great.

The Dodgers had a policy from the 50's to the 80's of only handing out one year contracts for their Managers.
It' s hard to believe that Alston managed as long as he did, year by year, contract-wise.

I don't think I've ever heard that, and if I did I forgot it, but now "one year" makes much more sense. :)

Was it a true policy or more a "tradition" with the principles basically having a lifetime contract to end when both sides mutually agree?

My sense was more Alston's way of doing things which morphed into the lifetime deal then Lasorda did it out of respect until he too became an icon worthy of the lifetime deal.

It could also be that Charlie Dressen demanded a multi year contract to manage the Dodgers and was summarily fired.
Alston was soon hired. Maybe Alston learned early that one year at a time was mutually beneficial for both parties.

I seem to remember Lasorda being nudged more than deciding to leave.

He has no where near the resume as Lasorda, but it is kind of like the Phillies not firing Charlie Manual, but they aren't extending his contract, either.
