Murphy's Law of Roto
Murphy's Law of Roto
You ride with a player from day 1, in my case VMart, and he sucks eggs.
You finally decide to bench him (Ruiz comes back Sunday) and he immediately starts producing.
2-for-2 with a run and rbi already tonight. This game drives me insane!

Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
That happens to me 85% of the time! I bench a guy that is day-to-day.....he comes back and hits 2 hr in just one game he plays, or a pitcher comes back and is lights out. If you start them, they do nothing.....sit them they tear it up. Same thing with coming back from injuries. You know player X comes back not until Wednesday, but you can start player Y who will play 4 games the first part of the week. Of course, player X is much more productive.

Same thing when I cut a player. They automatically end up somehow being productive or great. It could be a player that nobody even wants.......they still have a few monster weeks. These players must read the NFBC FAAB drops or something. They see how much they are dropped, get pissed, and take action.Deadheadz wrote:You ride with a player from day 1, in my case VMart, and he sucks eggs.

At least my other benching, Martin Prado, seems to have been justified.

Chris Johnson...bastard.
Dropped him. Needed the spot due to injuries.
Thought for sure he was riding the bench behind Freeman and Francisco,..then BAM!
Freeman's down and Johnson goes off on a tear that may earn him back playing time.
I guess you need to see the full season before you can completely evaluate it.
Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
One thing that hasn't been mentioned is an occurrence that I try to avoid but can't because I'm weak. I inevitably hold a player waiting for him to come up from the minor leagues or from the DL. I'll wait until mid-May, June, July, heck it could be the third week of April. As soon as I drop him he's coming up the following week.

Now it's Cozart. I benched him for the weekend because he's been in a slump.
Nice day today so I'll be starting him on Monday, fully expecting him to go back to multiple 0-fer games.
It's not like I'm going to waive him for Marwin Gonzalez. That's fool's gold!
Cheers!

Marco Scutaro is obviously reading the Online Championship Drops.
One day after I drop him (he's been blowing chunks all season) he decides to show up to play.
Now that he's signed a new contract I'm expecting him to play like a major leaguer about once a week.
Thanks, Marco!

Sat Brett Anderson as the team announced they were going to skip this start.
Replaced him with Porcello (I know, I know..)
What happens?
They go extra innnnigs...he pitches five plus allowing one run and 5 K's!
Porcello will undoubtedly give up 9 in 2/3 IP.

On my roster: 79AB .215 8R 0HR 4RBI 0SB
Since I dropped him: 100AB .420 19R 1HR 9RBI 0SB
Lousy drop.

Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
When Adrian Beltre grabbed his hammy on the weekend I was ready for his annual DL stint and moved Todd Frazier into 3B and put Beltre in the bench. They said he was expected to miss at least one game.
He just hit his 2nd bomb in two games and its still early into Thursday's game.
But you KNOW if I had left him active he would have been out for all 3 games this half.

They say if you love something you should set it free.
Two weeks ago I dropped Martin Prado after so much poor production.
Looks like he's back to career norms again. Yay me!

Who did you pick up or replace Prado with? And if you have Cespedes, please drop him!Deadheadz wrote:They say if you love something you should set it free.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

June 16, dropped Prado for LeMehieu (steals?) also dropped Ibanez that week and we know what he's done since then.Edwards Kings wrote:

I don't have Cespedes but I've got Bourne and McCutcheon who need a kickstart too.

Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
Good picks all (Prado, Bourne, McCutcheon). Sorry they have had the flats on you. It is frustrating to plan on those guys being your anchors or at least the solid core (i.e. the ones you should not have to worry about...let them play and spend your time looking for MI upside, C2's, and two-start FA pitchers).Deadheadz wrote:June 16, dropped Prado for LeMehieu (steals?) also dropped Ibanez that week and we know what he's done since then.Edwards Kings wrote:

Never works that way for me either.
I just wonder how the Lindy's, Steve's, Glenn's (and others) of the world do it. I am sweating in the middle and those guys are relaxing on the couch, eating "Slim Jim's" and talking with KJ on how to invest their winnings...

Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
As a first timer at NFBC the one thing that does give me hope is that my pitching has done well and the hitters can always heat up. I'm motivated by the fact that I'm 5th/12 sitting 2 pts ahead of Lindy who has a team in my league. He's had it rough with injuries and a couple of top SP who are having bad seasons.Edwards Kings wrote:

Great match up tonight, Strasburg vs the Marlins, right?
Re: Murphy's Law of Roto
Decided to sit Plouffe for the weekend.
So far 3-8 with a HR.
Yeah, I know what I'm doing.
