Why do the Royals pitch to him in that situation? I mean, it's 5-5, nobody on, nobody out, bottom of the 9th. Don't you just walk him and take your chances on somebody else?

Last week the Chicago announcers were asking the same question. Their response was simply "If you haven't learned by now, shame on you". Here's the big one last night. This never gets old!!

I was thinking they'd walk him and hoped that Leyland would pinch run for him.
Then, I remembered who they were playing. :D

The last two pitches he's seen have been Gone!!! There is no pitch near the strike zone that he cannot hit out of the park.

Ned is an idiot. Earlier in the game it was even dumber yet. 2 outs man on third. W. Davis was at the end of his night. Will Smith a decent lefty was ready. In amazingly stupid fashion they pitch to Cabrera and he doubles in the go ahead run, then they bring in Smith who easily handles Prince. So stupid I cannot even possibly begin to comprehend it. You walk Cabrera and then bring in Smith to face Prince. It is so obvious to anyone with a brain. Ned is very poor.

The way Prince is swinging the bat now, you walk Cabrera in the first inning and have the lefty Chen pitch to Fielder, who he handled easily. WHY EVEN PITCH TO MIGGY?

We saw enough of Ned in MIlwaukee for the same length of time, Chad. Very frustrating to figure out.

Especially when you consider the way Cabrera is running. Even if you are trying to avoid the big inning, he is so slow so will not score on anything that isn't a homer. In some ways it is going to be frustrating that KC came reasonably close to playoffs. It will probably be enough for this numnuts to keep his job.

I agree that Miggy's one of the top-2 3B in the game. It's a shame the best is on the shelf right now, but at least Miggy is an admirable stand in for now as baseball's top "healthy" player at the hot corner. ;)

Holy shit Ned is killing KC chances. 2 outs guy at 2nd he lets Chen face Cabrera again even with a base open and two outs. Can it get any dumber?

They just pitched to him with a guy on second, two outs and first base open. Result, RBI single. This guy is pretty stupid.

Third inning. Man on second. Two outs. Miggy up. Surely they walk him now with the open base? Nope. Result: RBI single. So predictable. Prince strikes out next by the way. I know Bruce Chen is having a good year (don't really understand how, but that's another story) but, I'm sorry, there is no way I let Chen pitch to Miggy, and especially not after he's homered his prior two at bats and there is an open base.

I think if we did some research we would clearly find Miggy on one of Ned's fantasy teams.

Down 4-0 with two outs and a man on third, Ned finally wisens up and intentionally walks Miggy. He FINALLY gets it.

Third time's the charm. Man on third with two outs. Intentionally walked Miggy. Fielder makes third out. Lesson learned.

In a side note is it appropriate for Detroit to pour a bunch of sand by first base to slow down KC running game? Me thinks that is ridiculously bush league. Have been doing it the entire series. If something was wrong with the normal dirt why didn't they fix it after the first game. Intentionally making the field worse and more dangerous seems incredibly pathetic. Enough so I lost a lot of respect for this Detroit organization about it. Cannot imagine Joe would think that is appropriate either.

just switched over to catch Hosmer's AB vs Max. Holy crap I know I complain about umpiring, but if you saw the pitch that Davidson just rung up the young kid up on. wow! I mean nobody, not Miggy the Great, not Ted Williams, nobody has a chance if THAT pitch is called a strike. (where is my image guy ? Take my word it was horribly high & outside, just ridiculous).

And Chad is right about the sand, total BS. Still couldn't stop Dyson, that dude is like a waterbug.

I feared this day when I put Chen in for his 2 starts. Exhibit A as to why it would be nice to make a pitching change - yes I want Bruce to face the Marlins, no thanks I prefer he not pitch against the Miggys
Always be closing.
