Looking For Feedback On Sunday FAAB Deadline

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Nov 07, 2013 4:29 pm

I know how much you folks put into FAAB every Sunday and I know that at times it even cuts into your family life on that day. Yet we've never changed the FAAB deadline in 10 years and it's time to get some feedback from the masses to see if we're doing it right or could even do it better.

Right now FAAB deadline every Sunday is 8 pm ET. I have no problem keeping it at that time, but I know that means you folks have to spend several hours before then to fine-tune your FAAB lists. Since we are now allowing more flexible Set Lineup times on Monday and even Tuesday if players don't play on Monday, maybe it makes sense to push back our FAAB deadline a bit.

In football, we have the FAAB deadline on Friday at 10 pm ET and we have no problems there. If given the choice going forward, what deadline would you like for all of our NFBC FAAB:

Every Sunday at:
a) 8 pm ET
b) 9 pm ET
c) 10 pm ET

Give us your thoughts?

I like 10pm the best. Allows you to see some of the Sunday night game and account for any in-game injures

10PM EST would be great, esepcially for us West Coasters. allows all the news of Sunday Games to be reviewed.

I think a lot of us "Tweak" the bids all the way until the deadline. The earlier it's over the better. The majority of the work for me is done earlier in the day.

I'm definitely all for the 10 PM option. The later the deadline, the more up-to-date information we have to make the best informed decisions.

Also, my wife hates when setting FAAB bids interrupts dinner every Sunday, so this would help me on two fronts. :D

10pm is much better for me. Now the West Coast folks can enjoy the dinner interruptions every Sunday!

While we are on the subject of tweaks, is there any reason that it STILL takes 25-40 minutes to process the bids after the deadline?

Thanks Greg for putting this out there. It's a start and I'm happy to see action already. 8-) More good things hopefully to come. Cast my vote for 10:00 PM EST. The more time on Sunday we get the better as far as I'm concerned.

Does this allow multiple votes? I love having the poles, but let's not allow people more than 1 vote.

I am selfish. I like the 8 pm ET (I eat earlier than most on Sunday I suppose, and if you have ever seen me, this should come as no surprise). To me, it gets done and I can focus on the rest of my evening.

However, if this is a problem for those that made the mistake of settling west of the Mississippi, or for those Eastern/Central types that need to belt down one or two more martoonies before burning dinner, I can be flexible.

I will not vote, so whatever you guys/gals decide if fine with me.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I'd love the later time, put the kids to bed and finish off tweaking the bids, love it! Would probably encourage me to grab a few more FAAB teams...

Thanks for the feedback all. I know this is a small sample size during the slow part of the off-season, but I think it is pretty revealing. I've heard from a lot of folks about how they spend their Sundays during 26 weeks of the year and I think I've contributed to some of these hardships. I'm convinced there is a better solution and just this little sample size is telling me what I suspected already. Thanks all.

This stinks. The "Chum chum club" is alive and well, all 26 of them. :D

My wife hates the fact that I spend our sunday dinner time in front of the computer. We always do stuff during the day which usually give me free time from 6-8 pm eastern. Which usually involves me eating my dinner over the computer . It would be awesome if I could eat at the table and help my the wife with the things she always yells at me about. Get my daughter ready for bed ,wind down and head to the computer at 9 pm eastern. Heck one of my local leagues has a 1 am faab time.
In my case a later faab would be a win for me /win for the wife/(keep her happy I get to do more teams)/win for Mia(she would be able to get daddy and her computer time before bed :D

Joe, the "Chum Chum Club" only exists on the NFFC boards and the person who coined that name is no longer an NFFC member. ;)

Being on the West Coast, I'm interested to hear why you like 5 pm PT better than 7 pm PT. Just curious. This is definitely an informal survey and we have plenty of time to finalize this rule, but I'm interested in your feedback since you are a West Coast resident. Thanks.

OK, the chum chum club reference was used to get your attention in reference to the small sample size that has been taken here. I am different than most that play here and it was not meant to alienate anyone. That's a club that I will never be welcomed in because of some of my brash, often childish rants on these boards.

I realize that I come from a totally different perspective on this simply because of my different approach to this game and life itself in general. I understand right away that most will not relate to my response to this and understand why, but this is just me. Here goes.

During the course of the week (during the season) I try to do a little FAAB work each day, it takes a lot of the pressure off of Sunday. I wake up Sunday and work on FAAB and watch games until 1:00 PST or so. At that time everything is done and I go and meet all the local boys that play the local leagues for beers in the afternoon. During these hours I continue to check all of the media reports and monitor play of those I'm bidding on. It never really ends until 5:00. This is the most LIBERATING and relaxing time of my Sunday. I can no longer change any bids, I usually have thoughts and changes all afternoon long.

Up until 5:00 I tweak bids (on my phone) because a guy I want just went 3 for 5 with 2 HR and I know that his cost has just gone up. I don't care about the results of the evening game, so what, everyone has the same information. You are taking 3 hours of peace away from me. I will now have to continue to monitor the information for an additional 3 hours. I want those 3 hours for me, it's my favorite 3 hours of the week. It feels like you are taking away 81 hours (27x3) of my life (over 3 days). 5:00 Sunday is my favorite time of the entire week!!!

So this is a selfish response and one very few can relate to, thats ok, it's how I feel. I will live with this change, because we all know it's coming. It doesn't mean I have to like it. All of the emotional pressure that goes with this is self induced, that's my problem I guess.

I suck at FAAB and it is my biggest weakness so that adds to the self induced pressure that I feel on Sunday's.

You asked…….

Just to be accurate Joe: It's two hours later if we make a change. It would be changing from 8 pm ET to 10 pm ET, at most. But we need more data first. Thanks for explaining. Honestly, all but one game will be done by 5 pm PT, so hopefully there won't be many additional tweaks after that, but I get your point.

OK, I just got an hour back. :D

The additional tweaks is personal flaw because I usually think I'm missing something. Information can come out during those hours about injuries, rotation changes, demotions etc. not all related to the last game of the night. I would have to stay in touch, just me.

I appreciate you asking.

Greg, The later the better for me, I make my FABB moves late on Saturday night(Sunday morning). I might be able to get home from work by 9:30 sunday night and tweak my bids.

I vote for 8 pm EST so one can set lineups at a reasonable time Sunday lineup.

The later the better for me.
We'll have till 7EST Monday and later in some cases to set lineups. That shouldn't be a problem at all.
A friend of mine has a league that closes FAAB at 1AM, EST.
They have a choice of staying up to see who they got or waking the next morning and seeing their new pickups and setting lineups.
Pretty cool.

I'm in the central time zone, so a 8pm ET FAAB deadline cuts into Sunday dinner. Not only would my wife and kids greatly appreciate a later deadline, it would also make taking on an additional FAAB league more feasible.
