Player insurance money payout

Post by mlbbug » Mon Nov 11, 2013 12:22 pm

Just wondering if anyone can let me know when we could expect insurance money payouts for those who paid NFBC Main Event by check. I know the NFBC does not make these payouts so this is not directed at either Greg or Tom.However, perhaps someone who has received this type of payout in the past can shed some light on how long it usually takes to receive the player insurance payout.I would have preferred not to be asking about this but since I was dumb enough to select Matt Kemp  with my first round pick  it at least offers some small amount of financial consolation.

It's a good question. I talked with Henry from Fantasy Sports Insurance last week and he said he would have some info to me this week. Last year they paid out about 6 weeks after the MLB season concluded, so I would think checks should be going out this month. Sorry that FSI doesn't pay as quickly as the NFBC, but they are very reliable and trustworthy. They will have your injured, battered checks to you folks soon and I'll post an update as soon as I get one from FSI.

This was about as predictable a topic as "gee, the sun came up in the east again this morning".
Can someone tell me, logically, why this money wasn't paid out immediately after the season ended?
BTW -- I have no stake in this, no claim on any of the money. Just a simple observation.
And you do have to give props to Greg & company for their own fast payouts.

Thanks for the reply,Greg. I would have preferred to have been in contention instead of collecting insurance money. Thanks to Matt Kemp and his 73 game disaster of a season (among other stiff picks,C.C. Sabathia,Rickie Weeks,Josh Willingham I am looking at you three particularly) I must now console myself with the insurance money. Oh well, I guess a 20% return on failure isn't so bad after all  .

Have you never had to deal with an insurance appraiser? ;) I talked with Henry today and he said he would have the list of eligible players no later than Friday. He knows that he's paying later than we did, but he's on it.

According to Fantasy Sports Insurance, we have 27 NFBC teams who qualified for payments totaling over $6,000 because of injuries to top players. The players who qualified according to FSI's guidelines included:

Brandon Morrow
Matt Kemp
Jason Motte
Johnny Cueto
Roy Halladay
Jose Reyes
Josh Johnson

If you had insurance on those players, FSI will send out a check to you shortly. We are just double-checking the list now and making sure we have all qualified players. I'd say congrats to all of the "winners", but losing any of these guys for 60+ games is not a fun way to go through the season.

Payouts are $300 for the Main Event, $200 for the NFBC XII and $200 for the NFBC Auction Championship.

What about Jose Reyes? He was placed on the DL on April 14, transferred to the 60-day DL on April 23 and his first game back was on June 26.

I'll ask. There are questions about Josh Johnson and Aramis Ramirez, too. FSI will get back to me.

Also, Aaron Hill should be on the list.
