What player(s)have been the biggest reach in your drafts so far?

I think I reached for Gattis in the 7th round. I could have held off and picked up a stud 1st baseman instead.

Jean Segura went as the #16 pick in DC1.... a wee bit early IMHO.

Do you think he would have been available at pick #45? If not, I did what I had to do to get him given my draft position.

Don't get me wrong, I like Segura, just not at 16. Take a look at his first half / second half splits last year, that alone would give me pause. He may have gotten tired, or the league may have figured him out, just too risky at 16. You had a punt HR/RBI strategy, and I actually liked that you tried that, i.e. I like innovative approaches. But Segura's BA split before/after the AS break showed a drop of 100 points. He was a .240 hitter in the second half.

I'll be curious to see how your strategy plays out.... should be fun. At one point in the draft it looked like you had the most points.

In all seven of the leagues Greg posted to "Early Season Draft Results" we see Segura in the second round:

Round 2.1
Round 2.10 twice
Round 2.15
Round 2.12
Round 2.13 twice

So I'm not sure if everyone is reaching or just optimistic like me.

I did see Pierzinski go 14.15 right after the news of his signing. I saw that as a bit of a reach but we did have an earlier run on catchers in DC 6 so it's understandable.

Yes, I look forward to seeing if my SB/Sv heavy strategy works even a little bit. With Ellsbury going to NYY I might get a few extra RBI.

Now if only Colorado would sign Paul Konerko to a 1-year deal and have the mountain air revitalize him...

Cheers!

Some of the folks in this league had projections for all players and were keeping track of each team's categories and apparently could tell who was "winning" the draft at certain stages.

(Of course, there is a reason why they play the games. :) )
