I took Zobrist in an early draft and like him in that general area of the draft for two reasons. First, for him, I do think last year was a bit disappointing. I'm looking for a better year in 2014 closer to prior years' performance. Second, obviously, the multi-position eligibility is big. For me, however, if he only was eligible at 2B and OF, I'd wait on him a little longer. I actually think 2B is deeper now than in recent years. However, I personally find SS to still be shallow, perhaps the shallowest of positions. After Hanley, Tulo, Reyes, Segura and Desmond are off the board in some order in Rounds 1-3, Zobrist compares pretty favorably with most of what's left at the position. Just my two cents.

Makes sense. Like I said I am just getting going on prepwork as I am actually finally having some success in Football so my head has been wrapped around that. I guess I get closer I will see the reasoning.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe Greg can explain exactly the draft order when he posts these. In looking at it again it looks like he lists each round by each drafter and its not in reverse snake format???

Really interesting start for Team 1:

1. Miggy, 3B(and soon 1B)
2. Pedroia, 2B
3. Desmond, SS
4. Zobrist, 2B/3B/OF
5. Mauer, C/1B
6. Prado, 2B/3B/OF

No pitching and not a ton of power (other than Miggy and, to some extent, Desmond), but a really solid infield and lots of positional flexibility. I'm curious how the rest of this team will look.

JMO, but I won't be taking Goldschmidt ahead of Davis. I think there's a good chance they put the stoplight on his base stealing after getting nabbed 7/22 last year and Trumbo likely batting behind him. Would be shocked if he got 10 SBs next year. Chris Davis seems like a safer bet to me. I'll give up a little bit of BA for the 10 HRs, 15-20 RBIs extra he projects for.

I've been wrong plenty before though so, we'll see. Maybe Goldy's walks fall with Trumbo behind him and he smashes 5-10 more HRs. Who knows.

I think Davis may have the higher ceiling with his incredible power, but Goldy has the higher floor (in my opinion). I also think Goldy's stellar 2013 campaign was the continuation of a superstar-in-the-making approaching his peak years. He should only get better with Trumbo providing protection. Davis always had power, but 2013 was a complete breakout, far surpassing any reasonable projection. It is very possible he does it again, but if forced to bet money, I'd say the risk of regression is greater with Davis. Both are clear-cut 1st rounders, but I have Goldy as my #3 (after Miggy and Trout in some order), and like Davis around the middle of the round. Should be fun to watch.

I got 'stuck' with Robinson Cano as the 8th pick but I was kind of hoping he would be gone by then.
Is anyone else figuring there will have to be a statistical drop off in Seattle, with less runs scored and less runs to drive in, making him not a top ten player?
I just think I would have felt more secure with him in a Yankee uni..
Saw that in a couple of early drafts he fell to number ten.....

In 2012, Raul Ibanez hit 19 HRs at Yankee Stadium in 425 PA. In 2013, he moved to Safeco and hit 29 HRs in 496 PA. I would be happy with Cano at 8.

And with those 19 home runs in New York, Ibanez drove in 62 runs.
And with those 29 home runs in Seattle AND 71 more at bats, Ibanez drove in just 65 runs.
That is the true pitfall....

So, let me ask you this question? Is he dropping in the ADP because of:
A. The Mariners ballpark (4 Mariners hit 20+ HR last year)---Yankees (one 20 hr hitter-Cano)
B. The Mariners lineup (Cano was protected by the likes of Soriano,Overbay,Reynolds,Wells.)
C. The Mariners perception (Cano is leaving the beloved Yankees with all those championships to the Mariners who have never appeared in a World Series).

Frankly, we don't know Robinson Cano and what drives him. Maybe this new contract will make him lazy and he'll become complacent and won't live up to his "expectations." Or the contract may do the opposite. He'll train the hardest he ever has in his life and have a career year. We shall see. But this year, I will still be happy with Cano at 8.

Seattle was actually second in all of baseball in home runs last year. I don't know what that has to do with Cano playing for Seattle this year. They were 22nd out of 30 teams in scoring runs.
Where would I rather have Cano play if I were his owner? I would answer Yankee Stadium.
I wouldn't really care which team had more homers the preceding year.

Newly rich players tend to play under their talent levels the first year. I don't know why. Trying too hard. Not trying hard enough. New teammates. New organization. New pitching. I don't know.
The Angels have found that out with Pujols and Hamilton, but everybody is a different case.

Eighth pick? Ho hum.
I wouldn't be excited. I wouldn't be disappointed.
I wouldn't be disappointed because Cano should be fine in four categories.
I wouldn't be excited because there is hardly a chance that he'll outplay where picked.

And then again, I don't know if he'd outplay his drafting position, even if he were taken 10th, or even 15th. I think we've seen the best of Cano. That, would be my hesitation in taking him.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
