Considering first DC League ...

I am considering doing a DC league this year for the first time and have a couple of general questions:
-- How late in the spring do DC drafts start? Are there leagues that start drafting in late February/early March?
-- From what I have read here, it seems that people generally get annoyed when people take too long too draft. With my work schedule, I may sometimes take a few hours to be able to make my pick. Is this going to be a problem in most leagues? I don't want to annoy everyone by taking too long. In general, how quickly do people generally make picks and how long do drafts last?
-- I have a fairly deep knowledge on minor leaguers, but was curious if there is anywhere I can find general advice/strategy for 50 round NFBC drafts?

Jump in the pool, just let everyone know when you are going to be gone for a while, also learn to use 1 round auto when it within 2-3 spots of your pick. you will be fine

It's only annoying when no one knows whether you're picking in 5 minutes or 5 hours.

When you're able to give the other managers a timeframe of how long you'll be gone, everyone can plan accordingly and no one gets frustrated.

You don't have to give a cell phone number but if you do, there's usually one "shepherd" in each league who will send you an alert as to when you're on the clock. You'll find there are times when most managers are all available to pick and others when very few are available. No one expects you to pick in the middle of the night just because you're on the clock.

Auto-One is handy but don't feel like you have to go on it if your turn is still more than one or two picks away. If you're comfortable with going on auto for one round when there's still 3+ picks ahead of you, that's fine but no one will fault you for waiting to see if a run is starting on players from a certain position.

Basically the key to a smooth DC is good communication. It's only the managers who are online right up until their turn and then disappear for hours which drive the others crazy. Just a quick note in the chat saying you need a few minutes or that you're heading into a meeting for 2-3 hours will go a long way in avoiding any disappointment.

Oh yeah, don't ever...EVER...steal the pick of the guy right after you. That's a no-no.

Welcome aboard. We will continue hosting Draft Champions Leagues through March 8th. That will be the last day we'll start up a DC league with an 8-hour time frame to assure that we will finish by March 30th. We can start up 4-hour DCs or Draft Champions Express Leagues after that, but I want March 8th to be the last day for 8-hour DCs. I hope that helps.

Thanks guys for the responses. I think I will give myself a few more weeks of prep and then get signed up by the middle of February or so.

One final question -- can you draft from an iPhone? They have ramped up website surveillance at work and I am pretty sure fantasy baseball drafts probably will be blocked. I can do it from iPhone or iPad at work though.

Todd -- thanks for the info. I will check it out. I tried BaseballHQ this year, but if I don't do Platinum, I will definitely do the primers.

Iphone and Ipad both work. I draft from mine regularly.
