I figure that, somehow, Rich owes me something for putting together the draft in which he won the Overall !

Thanks Dan, I look forward to drafting with that incredible group of diehards. I hope we are able to get that same group together. Can't wait for my first draft and a great start for the 2014 baseball season. One more week of football, then on to baseball prep.

This ought to be a great group and swift draft. I'm guessing most will be watching football with one eye and the draft board with the other.
I'm thinking we can do anywhere from 10-15, rounds on Sunday.
Drafting while watching football? Anything not involving a female cannot be better, right?

A very successful 1st "fast slow" draft for the 2014 campaign. We started at 11AM CT Sunday and finished tonight around 8PM CT (4 days 9hrs). Once again, a great group of "like minded" drafters that worked together to make it as smooth a running draft as possible. MTM was there as the "enforcer", or rather the facilitator, but he didn't need to be called upon very often, especially considering the enormity of the task at hand. This is one of the few SLOW drafts where people apologize for being 20 minutes on the clock and/or get a text when they've been on the clock for 15 minutes. We even reached out to contact "next of kin" when we hadn't heard from a drafter for a while. Thanks Glenn. All was accomplished with great appreciation for each other and there families and jobs. Many thanks to Dan for putting this group together.

I believe there will be a couple more of these in the coming months and for those wanting a speedy draft with great chatting along the way, I suggest you take the plunge. I guarantee you you'll have a different take on the 8 hour clock "slow" drafts.

This really was the perfect draft. 10 rounds drafted each of the first three days. 12 rounds drafted the fourth day. Then completed the next half day with eight rounds. Just a fantastic group of drafters and it re-enforces my thinking that as long as 15 reliable, responsible drafters are in a DC Draft, the clock becomes unimportant.

During this draft, we had a guy take the wrong player. We wanted to make things right, so we cut off drafting early that night till Greg/Tom could fix it the next morning.
We had a businessman taking trips. He was apologetic if even 30 minutes of his time were spent.
We had a guy in the process of moving out of state.
We had a guy having electrical and plumbing problems. So much so that the electrician had to turn off power to his house. When notified by cell that he was on the clock, he had the electrician turn on the power to his house so that he could pick through his re-booted computer.
We had a guy with heart problems have an episode of low blood pressure. I'll mention his name. Stan Kaye.
I mention his name because he went above the fantasy reliability and responsibility duty.
I called Stan to let him know he was on the clock. His wife, Caroline, answered the phone. Now Caroline, was probably none too happy about me calling over a silly fantasy pick while Stan was in the throws of nearly being unconscious with low blood pressure. She informed me of the problem.
I told her I hope Stan is feeling better and he can pick in the morning at his leisure.
Five minutes later, a pick is made for Stan. I was astonished. Then on chat, a message...
"This is Stan's wife, he asked me to pick the top player for him"
And, SHE DID IT TWICE!
We then snaked around to Stan's pick again. By this time, knowing Stan's condition, we had decided to call it a night.
Stan wrote this message. "I can pick, Dan".
It was the first time I had to ask a drafter NOT to pick. Stan went to bed, picked early the next morning and is feeling a lot better.

I'm really proud of this draft and the drafters who participated.
These folks have real lives. They also have a fantasy life.
And during this week, with so much going on in both a real and fantasy sense, they respected both sides of the equation.
The next time somebody writes, "I have a real life" in the chat room of a DC Draft after a lot of his clock has winded down, I'll think about the group in this draft.

Best DC i've been a part of. Been in some great ones, but this is the first with 15 completely like minded individuals/consortiums. The communication, whether it be ribbing, general chatting, or just a heads up about a meeting, etc coming up, was awesome

I also have a little story concerning Bryan...

When putting this draft together, I recruited folks who were of a 'like mind'. Engaging chat, baseball knowledge, able to draft quickly, able to give and take shit without taking it personally.
I can name a lot more than just these 15 drafters that fit the bill, but most of these drafters had asked or been 'recruited' from other drafts.

After getting the 15 folks together, I got a PM from Mikey saying, "Dan, Bryan Vogel wants in the draft." I began pulling my hair out and I only have three, so I made short work of those. I had intended on calling or e-mailing Bryan to be in this draft, but simply forgot.
Then, I got lucky. Somebody couldn't make the draft. I knew that a simple PM or e-mail to Bryan wouldn't do. I had misplaced his phone number, so I called a friend to get it.
I called Bryan.
"Is this Bryan Vogel?"
"Yes"
"This is an asshole"
"You'll have to be more clear, I know lots of assholes." "Wait, is this Dan?"
Bryan agreed to be in the draft and had a great time like everybody else.
But, as I got off the phone to him, I thought....
"Hey wait! I was his first guess!"

Dan thank you for putting this draft together. It was a welcome respite from the usual slow drafts that take sometimes 3-4 weeks to complete. It was great to see that although it was very competitive, the fact that guys stopped to rectify a mistake pick and Stan's health to say a few showed that the NFBC is a great community. VanFleet snaked a bunch of our picks but that at least let us know we were on the right track. The three stooges (Moneyball) had a great time. Thank you again.

It was great having you in the draft. I've seen a few in drafts on these Boards who instantly 'get it'. You guys certainly do.
Rich won the Overall Draft Championships last year, so you guys are just more notches on his belt.
You guys fit the NFBC like a glove and any draft should be happy to have you guys.
