"Justin Ruggiano requested $2.45 million and was offered $1.6 million from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

Aside from a brutal stretch in the middle of the season, the 31-year-old outfielder was fairly productive for the Marlins in 2013. He owns a dazzling combination of power and speed and should be an attractive fantasy option as long as he earns everyday at-bats for the Cubs."

By all means. Let's discount the "middle of the season". It is not like it is important or anything!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

"Darwin Barney requested $2.8 million and was offered $1.8 million from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

The 28-year-old is a highly skilled defender, but slashed an atrocious .208/.266/.303 in 2013 which made him an non-tender candidate. He's likely to earn north of $2 million in the arbitration process."

I had expected this story to read:

"Darwin Barney requested an annual pass from the CTA and the opportunity to eat as many of the leftover hot dogs as he can after a home game and was offered minimum wage for the time actually spent on the field by the Cubs IF he agreed to wash the towels as well when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday."
