Thanks for the post on this, Tom. Sorry. I've been so busy trying to fill up your Platinum and Diamond drafts for you. ;) I believe a Meich/Dobies tandem is in for this league. I heard from them on this, so please confirm. I have also sent an email out to the league owners from last year. I'm sure that you can count on Gillis and Deterra as well, so perhaps you can reach out to them. They're usually a little late to the party. Will be working it and adding to this thread shortly. :D

Shaping up to again be another fun evening of competition with some of the best of the best in the East. 8-) I believe that number 10 in this league should be the dynamic tag team of Ante Meich and Jeff Dobies. Please confirm this when you can boys. After that, by my count, we will have five spots remaining which are as yet unclaimed. The right of first refusal has been given to all of last's years owners, and I've heard back from everyone directly other than Andre. So if you want a spot, bro', now is the time to jump in. Other that, we are looking for a few more guppies who think they have what it takes to swim with the piranhas in this tank! Who wants some of this action?

Just to whet your appetite if your thinking about it. The festivities this year are scheduled to include Scores girls, a full open bar, a DJ, chair massages, several NY Yankees and Mets as special guest star draft facilitators, and a complete dinner buffet with steak and lobster tail...just to name a few. Please contact Tom for more details on this,

Also, while I'm at it, I would like my championship trophy plaque to be inscribed as follows: Mike the Mouth, 2013 League Champion, Lord and Master Over All His Fellow League Bitches, and The Undisputed King of the NFBC in NY. Got that Perlmutter?

Got it. But why only in NY? The trophy currently residing in my study says the MTM Invitational NY "Metropolitan" League. Worried about some of your fellow Jerseyites?

Mainly because I was afraid I was running out of space on the plaque. But yes, please feel free to change NY to something more encompassing...like "Of the Entire East Coast" or "East of the Mississippi". You get the idea. With all of your post-graduate education, I'm sure you'll come up with something good.

Okay, how is it that the single most anticipated, highest stakes, premiere event of the NFBC's first weekend in NYC has somehow dropped off the first page of the message boards?!

Hmmm, why does this sound strangely familiar?

It has come to my attention that due to a combination of common sense (Lins), supposed poverty (Dobies and Magner), and general pussy attrition (Jupinka, Schroter, Boucier, and Stermon), we are finding ourselves a bit short of prime competition for this one-of-a-kind event come Friday night, March 21st in NYC. Now where as I do understand that yet again I'm tasked with filling this thing up while faced with the troublesome scheduling conflicts of the events of earlier in the day, it would be nice if I could avoid all of the begging, pandering, and ass-kissing that usually goes on when it comes to filling some of these other higher dollar events.

So I will simply say this: This is a live event that you do not want to miss if you think you have the chops to lock horns with some of the best there is in East of the NFBC. I for one would love to see some of the NY/NJ-based "industry experts" step to the plate and take the plunge to prove once and for all that they can actually win a real draft with some serious money on the line, instead of some bullshit industry mock draft with nine and a half teams, trading, and dare I say Lawr Michaels, in it, as an example. This is just one suggestion, but we'll open it up to some newcomers from the NFBC veteran ranks as well. You know who you are. You can run, but you can't hide. Actually, strike that...after seeing some of you, you probably can't run more than ten feet, so to be fair, hiding isn't truly an option anyway. :P

Let's start with this. I'm sure the backlash/interest will be fired up a bit come tomorrow. 8-)

And now a gratuitous gif of Elizabeth Hurley who I am working on for this year's celebrity draft facilitator. 8-)

Image

And if she doesn't work out, I'm also working on Beyonce, Kaley Cuoco, Kate Upton, and Jennifer Aniston, just to name a few. ;)

Gaetan,
For you of all people, I would love to make a concession for, my friend. But I would like to hold out to have this be filled with 100% LIVE participation if at all possible. Let's see how it goes, but I will definitely keep you down as the first in line if we have to go with a phone or on-line participant or two. Thanks brother.

Okay, here's a quick update: Nothing is certain yet in terms of their commitment, but I have heard back from a few top competitors who are waiting to see how things shake out with their respective schedules, draft commitments, etc. but I am waiting on the potential of having the powerful triumvirate of Glenn Schroter, Glenn Lowy, and Joe Anthony possibly returning for another go at the MTM. 8-) Again, nothing certain, but I am hoping that we can all again be treated to a shellacking by their sharp, creative, and extraordinarily talented fantasy baseball minds. :D I apologize for that last statement. It was obviously a vain attempt to shower these gentlemen with false flattery to get them to sign up for this event. We all know who the new king of this league is, so it's not surprising that they are a bit squeamish about returning.  But whatever works, I'll try. ;)

And still no takers from the ranks of the "experts" yet...Go figure.

Greg and Tom,
A little help on shaking the trees for this one as well would be nice, too. Thanks!

We've been on it Mike. No worries there. Still lots of time to sell this out but we haven't lost site of it by any means.

To address Gaetan's interest, the goal is to have all 15 owners LIVE in New York like we've done every year but if we need to include phone participants we will do that. But again, the goal is 15 owners LIVE in New York. With $20,000 on the line we definitely can get that done, right? :D

Former NFL player and NFBC veteran Shawn Johnson of Macedon, New York is stepping up to the challenge of the MTM Super League and will join us live at the New York Hilton on Friday, March 21st. This is Shawn's first live venture with us as he's always competed online, but when he has a chance to compete against the best he steps up. Shawn has won multiple NFBC Super League titles over his career, so this should be fun.

NOW ONLY 5 SPOTS LEFT in the MTM Super League. I know we can fill this one up with 15 of the best from the East Coast. There's plenty of time to do that. Good job all.

Here's the current signup list for this league:

NFBC SUPER LEAGUE
NEW YORK
New York Hilton, MTM Invitational
Friday, March 21, 6 p.m. ET

1. Doug Cassidy (tentative)
2. Larry Lensak, Wayne, New Jersey
3. John Lemke, Brooklyn, New York
4. Mike Massotto, Caldwell, New Jersey
5. Marc Perlmutter, Chappaqua, New York
6. Joe Thelen, Garden City, New York
7. Michael Edelman, Elmwood Park, New Jersey
8. Eddie Gillis, Jamestown, Rhode Island
9. David Deterra, Jamestown, Rhode Island
10. Shawn Johnson, Macedon, New York

Welcome aboard Shawn. Be nice to him MTM!!

Let's see, the guy is 6'4', 273, and ex-NFL defensive end, and you need to worry about me being nice to him?! I think he'll be more than capable of holding his own.

On second thought, he doesn't look that intimidating. As a matter of fact, I hate to admit it, he's actually kind of cute and sexy. Obviously retirement has treated him well.

And if Shawn Johnson is reading this, I go by the name of "Deterra" when I draft, so you'll be able to find me that way when you arrive.

Re: Now 4 Spots Left For March 21 MTM New York Super League

Post by Baseball Furies » Sat Feb 15, 2014 11:09 pm

It's obviously time for me to again dust off my recruiting skills in order to make sure the best event of the NFBC weekend in NYC goes off with a full contingent of live participants there for draft day. Now I must clarify that when I say "live" that does include the likes of Joe Thelen who people might think is in fact dead, but really only has one foot in the grave and one on the banana peel. :P So please don't mistake this by poking him to be sure when you walk by his seat because this really irritates him especially when he's napping during the draft. Now as for Dave Deterra, who obviously died several years ago, but through a unique combination of life energy transfer technology, antiquated snack foods, and generic, diet orange soda, has somehow managed to remain animated long enough year in and year out to return for this before being shipped back to Rhode Island and re-frozen into suspended animation until the following draft season rolls around.  But I digress...

The big news is that we are now officially unofficially down to just four spots remaining for this event!. I received word personally from Andre Bourcier, a newcomer to this competition last year, who got his ass handed to him by me, and is now returning for a second round of shellacking just as soon as he finalizes his travel plans, whatever the hell that means. I mean it's not like you're trying to get to NYC via steamship around the Horn of Africa, Bourcier.  But whatever the case, please make this official with Greg and Tom as soon as you can. We're all happy to have you and your money back this year.

That being said, a few big names will be notably absent from this year's festivities for the first time for a variety of absolute bullshit reasons.

Steve Jupinka, our resident fading champion of yesteryear, has finally thrown in the towel after back-to-back years of poor showings, and now there is some excuse about a "man problem" he needs to get resolved with a procedure right around the time of the event which is supposedly going to leave him and his wallet too sore to focus on one more league this year. However, Jeff Dobies will be icing him down enough apparently for Jupinka to be able to participate in another auction event with him as he looks to ride Dobies coattails to auction victory glory once again. :P

Then surprisingly the news came down that the once esteemed and great east coast competitor, and one of the best of the best in the NFBC when it comes to not only winning league titles, but extreme weight loss, binge alcoholic beverage consumption, compulsive gambling, and night club mayhem, Mr. Glenn Schroter himself had bailed. Well this was nearly too much to take, especially for the hotel losing out on all of that extra bar revenue. I personally contacted him about it, but it was too late. Greg had already been begging and harassing him for days prior about signing up for about another $20,000 worth of events and laying the guilt trip on him pretty thick, so I had no chance with Glenn's nerves already frayed and his patience worn thin from all the Wisconsin whining he'd already endured. I am holding out that he will recant and still yet return to hopefully try to remove what must be quite a sour taste in his mouth from last year's finish when the Schroter juggernaut faded down the stretch and fell out of the money... just another of the Goliath's taken down by yours truly. :P
8-)

There are others, but I will spare them the humiliation for now (after all, "competitors" like Mike Lins really don't need any further humiliation, do they? ;) ) In the meantime, I will keep this thread at or near the top of the boards with interesting content and news as things progress over the next few weeks until this great event is filled.

And now a trip down memory lane...

Image

Image

Yes folks, that was our lovely draft facilitator from the inaugural season of the MTM Super Event who no one paid a stitch of attention to once the draft started, being the good, hardcore fantasy baseball nerds that they were. However this year I think I have come up with a good solution: To make this event even more enticing to sign up for, I'm going to make sure that everyone has their very own lovely and extremely attentive draft assistant by their side at their beck and call. So I have taken it upon myself to go out and hire one for each individual competitor signed up for this draft. I will begin by posting each drafter's respective assistant as I recruit and sign them on for this event so that they will have even more to look forward to when they arrive for this amazing draft experience. So let's start with Joe Thelen since I began this post referencing him to begin with. Here is Joe's lovely draft assistant for the upcoming MTM Super this year:

Image
Okay, okay. I'm hoping he won't notice at his age. I had to save a few bucks somewhere, so nobody say anything too harsh about her while you're around him.

Stay tuned. I should have Dave Deterra's draft assistant nailed down by tomorrow night... :D

Great to have Andre back. We'll add him to the list and get him signed up once he's 100% officially back in.

FOUR spots left. This is gonna be a great Friday night league and I know there are people out there looking for a great league prize. So jump on in. The water's warm. :)

Okay, to follow up on my promise from last night, I just got the official confirmation on Dave Deterra's personal draft assistant. She's not quite my cup of tea, but I believe when I play match-maker, I know what I'm doing.

Oh well, you can't please everyone. Maybe they'll hit it off anyway...

Now back to finalizing John Lemke's draft assistant.

Great. Now that the Sunday Diamond in Vegas is officially filled and we can all stop sweating that one, how about showing this great event in NYC the love and attention it deserves so that we can have a full house there live come the first weekend in NYC?

Okay, be our guest on the STATS Fantasy Advantage tomorrow at 9 pm ET and we'll pick up four more owners from your appearance. Join us tomorrow and we'll have some fun on the air about this great event and more. Thanks.

For the Diamond, we had to take two owners remotely. You have some folks who really want to compete in the MTM Super and are East Coast residents, so if we have to be flexible to fill this one we should consider it. Gaetan and a few others would fit in just nicely here. But let's keep spreading the word and in the next 4 weeks we'll get this done. Plenty of time yet.

Let me know about tomorrow night. Thanks.

Greg,

Having MTM would also be ingenious from a marketing perspective for the NFBC. It would show that any average Joe (or Mike) with limited fantasy baseball knowledge, putting in minimal prep time can win an NFBC HIgh Stakes event!! Should/could bring in quite a bit of new business!!!
