Main Event or Primetime
Main Event or Primetime
I want to play in my first of the bigger contests in Baseball this season...only played OC & DCs in baseball previously....
Apart from 12 vs 15 team league is there any really difference between the main two contests?
Thanks.

If you drafted against your wife in a 12 teamer she'd have a remote chance of beating you. If you both drafted in a 15 team she'd have 0 chance.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

So you're saying if I can get in a primetime league with 14 other players' wives I have a chance?

These are two different games. The veterans like to think of their game (15 team) as being the superior challenge. In reality it's more of a drafting competition. The 12 team game gives the in season management component, a bit more importance.
I found I had better results in the 12 team before jumping back into the 15 team game. You can win and succeed in either, some folks are better drafters some better in season managers.
Both are great games and you can't go wrong either way. It must be a bit easier beating 11 players than 14 right? Good luck, if you're worried about experience, take it from someone who had to pay his dues, the 12 team is the way to go.

Re: Main Event or Primetime
Ha!! Goes right back to the NFBC!! As far as finishing second, it only took 10 years!!

Re: Main Event or Primetime
You are making a point for the 12 team contest. Probably easier for a new player to compete in the 12 team contest as the 15 team events are full of multiple year veterans with a lot of experience.ALL-IN JD wrote:Ha!! Goes right back to the NFBC!! Re: Main Event or Primetime
This is a great question Matt and one that isn't that hard to answer. Obviously the format is personal preference, but here are the differences.mattjb wrote:I want to play in my first of the bigger contests in Baseball this season...only played OC & DCs in baseball previously....

The 15-Team Main Event
** Deeper player pool to draft from
** Fewer free agents to choose from
** It's not a real common league format outside of the NFBC
** Other owners may have more experience in this 15-team format than new players
** But top prizes of $6,500 for league title and $125,000 grand prize makes it worth the effort
** It's the premiere event in the industry and anyone who wins it is quickly recognized as the best of the best
** The NFBC Main Event will also have 400+ teams competing for the grand prize
12-Team Primetime
** 12 teams, 30 rounds = 360 players drafted compared to 450 in the NFBC Main Event
** More free agents to choose from after Draft Day
** Also more time to sift through free agency each week, can be good or bad
** Much more common league format to new members as most fantasy leagues are 12 teams
** Solid prizes in a 12-team format of $6,000 for 1st and $100,000 grand prize
** Now that the grand prize is $100,000 the winner earns more money and more prestige
** The NFBC Primetime likely will have around 300 teams competing for the grand prize, so a smaller field to compete against.
Some Main Event owners will tell you that working the free agent wire in the Primetime is more work because there are so many good players still in the free agent pool. Some don't like that. Others who play the 12-team format will tell you that the Main Event is so hard because the free agent pool is so thin after Draft Day. Again, depending on how you like to work the waiver wire could determine which league format you like best.
Each has the best players in the industry now playing for six-figure prizes and prestige. There's no reason why the Primetime can't grow as big as the Main Event and our hope is that it brings in several new players who feel more comfortable with this 12-team format. It's very similar Matt to what we have in the NFFC with the 12-team Primetime and the 14-team Classic.
Either way, welcome aboard Matt and good luck with your choice. If you need anything at all, give me or Tom a holler.

Re: Main Event or Primetime
This is EXACTLY the difference.
Good luck, these mf'ers don't play
I think Steve's comment about your wife having a shot in the 12 vs 15 pertains to after 30 rds everyone simply has a better tm than in a 15. And in the 15 if you screw up the draft your chances of fixing it thru FAAB ain't good, but in the 12 you DO have the possibility of nabbing a Josh Donaldson or some other afterthought that could really help your tm. Those poss difference makers get drafted in the 15 just due to necessity, they're out there for you in the 12...which ones?Greg Ambrosius wrote: Some Main Event owners will tell you that working the free agent wire in the Primetime is more work because there are so many good players still in the free agent pool.
