At present there are no plans for any more on-line auctions. If that changes. we'll start a new thread.

Being private leagues, I can see how there could be more combo auction/snake leagues so long as they are not eligible for an overall prize. You would need a person with the ability to administer the league and we know Todd isn't available. Others "could" do it.

But I also understand that there needs to be some integrity with these leagues and STATS doesn't want to piss anyone off or get into legal problems. I asked Greg Ambrosius last fall about auction leagues and whether they could be run on another site and the results imported into an NFBC league.

I was told "not legal."

Luckily for us Todd and Dan and STATS have found a way for us to test out the idea of a combo draft which isn't soley an auction so maybe that's the loophole which makes it less of a liability issue.

Not that I want to send business away from NFBC but you do have the option of joining an auction money league over at RTS or another site if you like the format.

I prefer to keep my business here.

Great group and a nice, swifter draft tonight. A big thumbs up.
A HUGE Thanks to Todd for running these drafts. Spectacular job.
I hope that everybody enjoyed the tastes of these Auctions. I know I did and will look forward to possibly doing more of these in the future.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Nice again Andy, although I like the other team better.. only because power might be short in this one (a lot depends on what you get out of Abreu and Morse), but very solid either way.

I agree power short but average better here.

I tried for some corner guys late with power and I was getting outbid(I didn't have much money left).

woulda preferred someone other than loney...oh well.

Actually, I was Dumbstruck that Chris Carter and Matt Dominguez both went for 1 dollar each at the end...1b and 3b.

I drafted a team and my partner should update tomorrow with prices..We used his computer otherwise I would post it now...
It was a fun draft but I found myself yelling at the computer when guys were going for more than I wanted them to towards the end by the guys that still had money left over....

One more team from last nights auction. A couple observations from what I read here vs the previous two auctions.

As in all Auctions, some owners held too much money and ended up chasing the guys in the middle. I got the impression there was a mix of experienced Auction guys and some very inexperienced in the room creating strange swings in value.

Our Auction didnt go 100% as we wanted because we had to adjust a bit to the crazy middle rounds. In those rounds as players were going for more than they should , we knew that it would shake out in the end somewhere in cheaper prices and hopefully at positions we needed. It Did. Our pitching Staff isnt stellar, but Highly serviceable considering we have 27 more rounds to own streaming pitchers.

We purposely left 3 OF spots , the MI and CI and UT spots for the end game as we felt there was still a surplus of talent to be had when it arose. As money was drying up in the end from the owners that had too much, we took the opportunity to take what the draft dropped in our lap.

Now I will Contend that any roto team that has 3 Houston Astros players on it is doomed for failure. In Chris Carter( CI) Matt Dominguez (UT) and Jonathon Villar (MI) we basically got 60 HRs and 40+ Plus potential steals for 4 bucks..AVG may take a hit but hopefully we can absorb it somehwere..We wont be winning the AVG category anyway...lol

In Eric Young and John Villar in the end, we potentially have 80+ steals for 4 bucks total. SO who needs Billy hamilton?

Pitching is a tad light but we felt there was still enough in the draft portion of this league to spend a dollar on a lottery ticket like Carlos Martinez in the event he ends up being a SP sometime this season. They dont call him little Pedro for nothing.. This closers were going for more than they did in the previous drafts so we settled where we did and will try to Bench some saves potential at some point in the draft....

We wanted two guys we could count on K's from for 200 IP each. Masterson is Better than most people think and reliable.
Buchholz is one hell of a pitcher when he pitches. When we combine him and what ever starter we replace him with when he ultimately gets tweaked out, we feel we still have a quality pitcher. Corbin and Quintana were quality SP with maybe some stability and a tinge of upside.

ANyhow, here is the team. Rip away at ( the Money Shot ) team..

Wilin Rosario $19
Wilson Ramos $8

Edwin Encarnacion $30
Aaron Hill 14
J.J.Hardy $13
Evan Longoria $27

Andrew McCutchen 36
Alex Rios $25
Carlos Quentin $1
Eric Young $2
Justin Ruggiano $1

Chris Carter $1
Jonathan Villar $2
Matt Dominguez $1

Chris Sale $23
Justin Masterson $10
Clay Buchholz $9
Patrick Corbin $8
Jose Quintana $3
Carlos E. Martinez $1

Bobby Parnell $9
Fernando Rodney $9
Rex Brothers $3

Just as an FYI: We will enter these rosters as soon as we pick your draft spots for the slow draft portion of these auctions. Todd is getting all of your KDS preferences and then we'll randomly pick the order and seed everyone accordingly. At that point I'll register everyone and then Tom and I will enter your rosters. We should be drafting by next week, so stay ready.

Thanks all. We're good to go on all of this. Great job by everyone and I'm glad the auction software worked fine. In time, we hope to have that for NFBC members as well.

Here's one more team from last nights auction. Went in with the intent of going after players from rounds 8-13 plus a 30 and low 20 buck players with a 170-90 split. I found myself bidding on a few extra guys that I felt were bargain prices for the times they were going, so I over spent on hitting a little, but still like the results. I didn't plan on punting saves, but with almost every closer going 10 or higher, I had a hunch bargains would be found elsewhere. Outside of that, I feel my pitching will be competitive in four catagories if things pan out the way I'm hoping and maybe five if I can snipe the right backups in the draft portion. My hitting should be strong all the way around and I am pleased with the balance I attained in it.

To be honest, we felt it was criminal to steal like that...lol We had 4-5 quality choices at the end to fill our last UT spot and settled on Dominguez.. Ruggiano, Quentin and Eric Young for a buck apiece arent stellar OFers, but when Ruggs and Quentin are healthy and play, they produce. If and when they need time off, whomever we slot in to replace them ( essentially for free in the draft) added to there healthy contributions equals a quality stat line from that lineup slot for a buck apiece.

We also bought the Power/speed of Mccutch and Rios early and we knew speed would be cheap to add at the end. I didnt think it was going to be this cheap. Eric Young and Villar for 2 bucks each we were happy to roster.

When the Angel Pagans and Aokis and Brantleys we were targeting cheap were going for more in the end , we let lineups overpay and fill there slots knowing there was still plenty to be had ...It was nerve racking for both of us, but the end was most fun for us. But You just have to trust your gut and have confidence that your decision making process was correct...

An Excellent team? I dont know about that...Can it compete? Sure..

From you Gekko, thats High praise....As far as the Ramos Aquisition goes: We were price enforcing on him and planned on spending 2-4 bucks for our second catcher , but when he stopped at 8, we just looked at each other and said " Ummm, OK" two top ten catchers in a two catcher league...

Mudster... your name is quite ironic because your name was mud last night to us.. :D

You were one of the teams that frustrated us.. You had the money in the end and drove up prices on us on these players we wanted... Cingrani, Estrada, Kluber and Wood.
Then Ben Revere and Span.... But the one that hurt was when we won HART for 4 bucks and then u stopped the auction because your were shut out of the bidding and restarted HArt , I was screaming like a lunatic at midnight in my buddys house..lol We saw you had 14 bucks left for 2 players and knew you would outbid us. In the end Im happier to have Carter at a buck anyway for the Same OF/1b elig and it worked out anyway.

But with you last pitcher slot and 9 bucks left and U tabled Masterson at 9 bucks and thought you would own him, I bid ten out of spite and we needed the best pitcher on the board..

You had a nice draft but I feel you paid too much for the speed in the middle that couldve gone cheaper....Nice job though. we had fun

I had some nice words to say on Masterson when you got him, but in all fairness, I was rejected about 5 times on Hart because of position eligibility not being right on the site. I don't like complaining, but he was highlighted and circled on my as my to get guy. Carter was my second guy, and if I had known I could have gotten him for 1, I would have passed on Hart. Was a fun draft, and as much as I like where I'm at, you are probably the team to beat for the time being.

Dont worry..All Good. I wasnt crying foul at all on Hart because I had the same intention of using him with his 1b/OF elig. After you had that problem, we asked Todd to be sure that Chris Carter would get shifted to CI when we wanted to fill our OF and didnt want to get shut out on bidding on an OF because Chris Carter was there. At a buck, I am with you on Carter. But even if we won HArt at 4, we were still bidding on Carter aggressively with what we had left. So he wouldnt have gone for a buck either way..

2B - Robinson Cano $30
SS - Ian Desmond $21
3B - Kyle Seager - $15
MI -Ian Kinsler - $15
CI - Mark Reynolds $1 - just had a brain fart here. Just had $1 to spend for each last four spots
U - Billy Butler - $13
OF - Shane Victorino - $13

OF Curtis Granderson - $10
OF Dexter Fowler - $9
OF Chris Young - $1 - Need some cheep speed

Rotodog,

I was in your auction last night... Rockwell's avengers.
Yeah you have a really nice team. Great prices on 2 and likely 3 closers.

This was my first auction and I really wish I had held back on some players in the middle and had a little more $ for the end of the draft.
You and OC Frogs and maybe it mudsters got some bargains late.
Yeah, villar and young if he wins that job are absolute steals. Ugh. I nominated Ramos and can't beeline he went for $8. I almost bid and then thought I need to skimp somewhere and one of those spots was catcher 2 so I held back.
Was tough to see some players taken for cheap late in the auction. Wish I could've paced myself better. Will post my team at lunch.

Rockwell,
I have the spreadsheet from last nights draft. As I looked at your team, you did a real nice job. I can tell your philosophy was to spread the wealth as opposed to S+S... You pulled it off fairly well which is something most dont do. You did overpay at times for a number of players that could have gone cheaper but not significantly. Mostly your IF'ers and and Robertson namely.
But they are all FT players everyday, fairly reliable players. These players you drafted you pretty much know exactly what to expect from if there isnt tons of upside at the price. Its a different strategy than mine usually, but You did pull it off fairly well . My own team has a few question marks but upside, your team the questions are answered and you dont have one glaring hole or weakness and should compete as long as the reliablity you bought is reliable..

The John Jaso 2 dollar bid when you tabled him was Genius IMO. The 2 dollars froze everyone out from bidding 3 when there were many other 2-5 dollar catchers left. I like Jaso to produce as a catcher in 2014 even if he is DHing 90% of the time. For 2 bucks, he will outperform other catchers that probably cost more at the end of the year. WHat do you expect for 2 bucks anyway?

I think you did a pretty good job for your first auction....
