SiriusXM Hosts League On Monday, 2 pm ET

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sat Mar 08, 2014 10:04 pm

There is another industry draft on Monday, March 10th at 2 pm ET that will be aired on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio 210/87. Tom and myself are included in that league, which will be 29 rounds and consist of 12 teams. Ironically, just like last year we have the #1 and #2 picks, with Tom picking first. I'd say Mike Trout and Miguel Cabrera are easy selections there. No suspense from us.

Anyway, listen in for the 3-hour show and take what you can from it. I know the channel has several industry drafts this off-season, but it's good content for all of the shows and worthy of some debate. Should be fun.

Enjoy and we'll post our teams here after we are done.

Tom and I are both in Tout Wars Mixed Auction League on Tuesday night. That is a 15-team, 30-round draft set up like the NFBC. I don't even know what draft spots we have there, but we'll post our teams for that league as well.

It's drafting season. Let the Games Begin.

Has it been delayed? Tom appears to have timed out.

Well, this was a fun draft today with a lot of different strategies. We finished 30 rounds in 3 hours. It was great to have the 1st and 2nd picks like Tom and I had today.

Here's my roster:

C - Buster Posey
C - A.J. Pierzynski
1B - Edwin Encarnacion
2B - Ben Zobrist
SS - Everth Cabrera
3B - Miguel Cabrera
CI - Just Morneau
MI - Andrelton Simmons
UT - Billy Butler
OF - Yasiel Puig
OF - Michael Bourn
OF - Carl Crawford
OF - Torii Hunter
OF - Josh Reddick

P - Madison Bumgarner
P - Matt Cain
P - Alex Cobb
P - Matt Moore
P - Justin Masterson
P - Drew Smyly
P - Matt Garza
P - Sergio Romo
P - Addison Reed

Reserves:
Alex Wood
Denard Span
Kolton Wong
James Paxton
Nick Castellanos
Erik Johnson
Jake Peavy

I was hoping to get Billy Hamilton in Round 6 to solve my speed issues, but it didn't happen as he went at 6.5. That forced me to cobble enough saves together to be competitive. I do have more power than many other teams and this is a trading league, so I may have to get creative there. I like my young pitchers and I have two pretty reliable closers, but I missed on several pitchers I really wanted. We'll see if this team has enough upside to compete.

Here's a link to the draft board: http://www.rtsports.com/siriusxm1-draft

Some early round surprises:

** Clayton Kershaw going 3rd overall

** Adam Jones falling to 21st overall

** Yu Darvish falling to 25th overall

** The industry writers finally have joined NFBC owners in picking SPs earlier than in past years. 12 SPs went in the first 60 picks; on the NFBC ADP 13 SPs go in the first 60 picks.

** There were still great pitching bargains later in the draft. Alex Cobb in the 9th round, Masahiro Tanaka in the 10th round, Matt Moore in the 14th round. Ray Flowers didn't take a SP until the 11th round and then nabbed four in a row. Very interesting.

Anyway, check out the draft board and have at it!! All feedback is welcome.

Here's my team:

C-Evan Gattis
C-Mike Zunino
1B-Freddie Freeman
2B-Brandon Phillips
SS-Elvis Andrus
3B-Manny Machado
CI-Jose Abreu
MI-Jimmy Rollins
OF-Mike Trout
OF-Matt Holliday
OF-Brett Gardner
OF-Justin Ruggiano
OF-Eric Young
UT-Ryan Howard

P-Yu Darvish
P-Jordan Zimmerna
P-Hisashi Iwakuma
P-Hyun-Jin Ryu
P-Zack Wheeler
P-Ervin Santana
P-Aroldis Champman
P-Jim Henderson
P-Archie Bradley

B-Jorge De La Rosa
B-Kyle Lohse
B-Mark Reynolds
B-Bronson Arroyo
B-Adam LaRoche
B-Rickie Weeks
B-Raul Ibanez

Pretty happy with how this worked out. I probably waited on my Catchers for too long but I have some Gattis ManLove so I'm OK with that. I didn't realize until I did the Fantasy Drive show tonight that I drafted 10 starting pitchers. But with Iwakuma on the shelf to start the year and Bradley likely headed to the minors I wanted to give myself some options early in the season and I think I was able to do that.

Overall I like the power and speed I put together on this team. If Iwakuma can come back healthy I like my starting pitching to be dominant as well.
