Tout Wars Mixed Draft Tonight With Tom & Greg

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 11, 2014 2:44 pm

Who the hell can get any work done around here with all of these damn industry drafts going on??

Tom and I are back at it again as we are participating in the 2nd annual Tout Wars Mixed Draft. This is being held on CBS Sports.com at 7 pm ET and includes 15 teams, 30 rounds, just like the NFBC. Tom again has the No. 1 pick and I have the 4th pick. Tom finished 2nd in this league last year.

After this, we're done drafting. It's time to finalize these First Weekend NFBC drafts, ship out everything to New York and Las Vegas, and get down to business. There's still so much to do before we leave next week, but who has time for any of that when we're drafting all the time? I'm done after this. ;)

We'll post our rosters here tonight. There is no live draft board for this one, but we'll post some draft results when all is said and done.

Yes - there is. There will be a google doc being populated and likely a real time chat. The links should be on www.toutwars.com.

Oh, thanks Todd. I didn't realize that. Awesome and enjoy the friendly banter all.

I know sooooo little of what the hell is going on around me. I'm even worse on the home front these days. Someone just point me in the right direction and hopefully I'll do my best!!

Jeez, Tom. It seems like you constantly get prime draft slots. What's your secret? I've done eight DC leagues this season with 1 and 2 as my first two KDS choices and I'm 0 for 8 so far! I'm hoping for some "regression" when you run KDS for my Main Event league!

Here's my team. I'm not overly fired up about it but I wasn't crazy about my team in Tout last year and it finished second so who knows. I lost count of the number of guys Greg sniped from me. Had to be at least 4-5. I would probably feel a lot more excited about this team if I had gotten those guys. Oh well. We'll see how it goes.

C-A.J. Pierzynski
C-Geovany Soto
1B-Freddie Freeman
2B-Daniel Murphy
SS-Jhonny Peralta
3B-Ryan Zimmerman
CI-Manny Machado
MI-Alcides Escobar
OF-Mike Trout
OF-Michael Cuddyer
OF-Nelson Cruz
OF-Ben Revere
OF-Alejandro De Aza
UT-Billy Butler

P-Max Scherzer
P-Zack Greinke
P-Jordan Zimmerman
P-C.C. Sabathia
P-Matt Garza
P-Kyle Lohse
P-Addison Reed
P-Jim Henderson
P-Jesse Crain

B-Jorge De La Rosa
B-Emilio Bonifacio
B-Raul Ibanez
B-Gerardo Parra

This draft JUST KICKED MY ASS!! Holy sh*t these 15-teamers are tough. Who the hell was dumb enough to create this format anyway? WOW.

I missed on the second closer run, I missed taking a 4th SP early enough, I found out how shallow the OF pool is, I don't have enough power or speed and more. Just a lot of near misses in this draft for me. I'm done drafting for the season. This was the capper!!

I'll post my roster tomorrow. I kept it at the office so I could get a good night's sleep. Sheesh.

I think you are a little hard on yourself Greg. I was surprised to see you with Morneau and Gallardo. The closers are gambles for sure, but this is not a bad team. As a matter of fact I think it could challenge.

I like Tom's team, too, though the back end of the rotation and the outfielders after Trout will be a challenge.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I really wanted Chris Archer as my No. 4 SP. I think that would've really solidified my rotation with great talent and upside. But that was one of several picks Greg sniped me on so I took Sabathia. Not thrilled about that but I think he's OK as a No. 4. I was gunning for an upside SP after that but never got one so it's all about vets who I hope will just be solid for me.

Dr. Roto wasn't thrilled about my Cuddyer pick but I like my outfielders after Trout. I would've liked one more sure-fire stud there but I think all of the guys have the potential to be productive.

Where I fell short was at C and MI. The Catchers all went a round or two before I wanted to take them so I ended up with Pierzynski. I think he's an OK No. 1 catcher in a 15-team league but hardly spectacular. MI dries up QUICK in a 15-team league and after I didn't get Starlin Castro (sniped by Greg again) I pretty much bailed on SS until Peralta was the last man standing. If I can just survive at C, SS and MI (Bonifacio maybe?) I think I'll have a shot to contend again.
