What if.....

Post by ikenbaseball » Thu Mar 20, 2014 11:01 am

What if Clayton Kershaw gives up 5 runs in 5 innings this weekend?

He's had a rocky spring training. With the Main Events starting this weekend, I'm curious to hear people's opinion if this would affect his draft position? Does he drop out of the 1st round in your eyes?

Good luck to everyone

Given you could just bench him for the first week I don't see it affecting where anyone would take him - there are two camps
1) Take him in the first round after the Top 4
2) Not taking any pitcher even Kershaw until the end of round one preferrably round two

i was kinda thinking about that. i think if he pitches poorly he does fall. probably end of 1st round. the camp that takes a pitcher that early is small and i just think it shrinks.

Gotta love supply and demand. Pitchers only get 30+ starts. So it is a relevant question.
If Goldschmidt goes 0-8, his draft position is likely not affected.
But, what if Kenley Jansen throws an inning and gives up three runs?
In the end, I think the same folks who like Kershaw and Jansen will take him as planned.
If both have sterling outings, however, they may have competition from a 'bargain shopper'.

dan- now i kinda hope kershaw gives up 5 runs in 5 innings. tell ya what- lets see how he does. i wil contact you and we can bet doritos on him falling from the nfbc draft position from that day backward till that day forward. i will say he drops at least 7 spots. as of today he is pick 5. i will say to pick 12. i only am in one nfbc league at this point- yours. my 1st pick was .....kershaw. mike

Well, depends if Mattingly decides to use him for the Opening Sunday night game. If he does, makes sitting him for Australia a bit more complicated as you would also be sitting him for that Padres start right?

Mike- Part of him going so high is because of the extra start.
AND that adp was for lesser leagues.
As you know, it won't mean shit when the bigger events start. I would not be surprised to see him taken lower with a bad start.
And, I will not be surprised to see him taken 4th a lot if he has a great start...
It's the way some are wired.

There is no doubt in my mind that this weekends games will be over-examined and over-analyzed.

Every player's achievements and failings this weekend will leave a permeant stain in our brain. We are starving for baseball games that matter.
We will record the game and watch every AB.(maybe even twice) because these 2 games are the only ones that count for the next week or so.
Every Yasiel Puig is going to be important in a lot of owners eyes.

The results of the games will change people perception.

For example, Trumbo hits a grand slam off of Kershaw.

This event will probably move Trumbo up into the 3rd round in some eyes and move Kershaw in the 2nd Round.

Example #2

Kershaw pitches 6 no-hit innings and strikes out 12. Trumbo strikes out 4 times in that game.

This event solidifies Kershaw in the top 10, and there will be plenty of drafters taking him 3rd overall while Trumbo slides down the board to the 5-6th round.

This will be a fun and exciting weekend for us all. This is what's it's all about boys. :D

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Let's not forget the potential for Dodgers players to get more/better/worse stats when you include the Mar 30 game. Could Kershaw have a 2nd start? Jansen a 2nd save?

If the counting stats are good, I'd assume you start a player when you set your lineups before the Sunday night game. If the ratios are atrocious then you'd need a great game just to break even, right?

Let's hope the two Aussie games are a split with both winning scores being 1-0 with 30 strikeouts combined for the SPs. They're saying the foul territory is huge, the ground runs fast.

Most of all, zero injuries.

A Cricket and Aussie Rules Football field is much larger than any fields pros in the US play on. The SCG will have the largest foul territory of any game we will watch.

And remember, while the foul ground is larger, the fielders have to be able to get to it.
Grant it, a high pop fly will be caught, but I bet we see a number of fouls they chase but can't catch up to.

And they're going to be unfamiliar with the fencing. Will they shy back because they're used to finding a rail after a certain point?

It's 400ft to the wall in center field.
