Week 19 Drops

Post by bjoak » Mon Aug 14, 2006 12:56 pm

I'll say this--and I think it'd be hard to argue with--the best ways to evaluate leagues have not been developed and probably never will be for lack of interest (I'm certainly not going to do the leg work!).

For example, If you go through stats at the end of a season and have an objective way of determining how much value specific players had and what round that equated in the draft and then determine--objectively again--which drafts most closely evaluated players correctly, that would be a way. For faab, you could determine how early valuable (there would have to be a determination on what makes up valuable) free agents were picked up and which leagues were best at that. Other measures can look at how frequently teams were making the right decisions vis-a-vis active/benched players.

In any event, I don't think add 'em up methods do a good job in the face of real analysis. A league could have the best cum stats in the world but it doesn't mean they didn't let Ryan Howard slip to round five.
Chance favors the prepared mind.

I was just about to post about good/bad weekly bench decisions and even those teams with full DL's that can't make them.

These decisions have just as much impact as the draft does.

I'd like to see someone do a study on faab bids.

That reminds me, how's Sheffield doing? These are the longest 15 days I've ever seen.
