Glad to see everyone again!

Post by Walla Walla » Mon Mar 31, 2014 7:45 pm

It was a great weekend in Las Vegas. Enjoyed seeing as many of you as I could. Shawn sorry I didn't get enough time to visit with you. Your a busy guy! There is too many good things to say about the drafts in Las Vegas to mention. So being me I'll point out some of the bad. The draft boards being on a video screen may help upload to the NFBC pages fast. The problem is it does no good if you can't read them off the screen during the draft. I heard from those that have computers with them that the draft board shows up fine on their computers. The problem is for those who do not. I checked it out Thursday night knowing I would be using the screen on Saturday for the Main Event. I could not make out have the picks off the board.
Come the main event and it held true. The quality and sharpness of the draft board has to be better. I did notice that some leagues did not project the whole draft board on the screen but only the current 8 or so rounds. Maybe they had better vision of the player names. If that's the case than there should be a standard for all leagues using the same format on the draft boards. I think it'll work down the road better. But it needs work. Actually I have no more bad. It was a nice weekend!

Holy shit, Greg!
That is like getting a five star rating after the critic has left your place!
You must have done a great job! :D

All this talk of the draft screens is much ado about nothing. Been reading about these Draft screens for so long that I thought it would be an issue. This was my first draft with them and they are fine, more than fine. They are no more difficult to read than the stickers. Yeah, HD screens would be great, but it worked well. And it eliminates all the sticker confusion. Cannot believe all the MB talk this has generated. What is even better is you can follow the draft board online on your IPAD which is very nice. And all the players are loaded so after the draft you can go home and stare at the draft board for hours like I do. And if I stare long enough I can squeeze out extra steals, HRs and saves out of my players.

John, that is the nicest post you've ever made!!! Thank you!! :D

First of all, it was GREAT to see you at the live NFBC draft again. You are 1 of 195 guys who trusted the NFBC in 2004. You are a Charter Member of the NFBC and always will be. It was great to have you back in the Main Event again.

Secondly, it was great to see so many other people come up to you and welcome you back. Everyone knows that you are a good guy; you're not the only one who gets cranky on the boards and has a different persona in person. Awesome to see guys welcoming you back and seeing you having fun in the AL Auction and Main Event. Keep coming back.

Finally, I hope people know that you are a Vietnam veteran who doesn't really take any of this fantasy baseball stuff too seriously. You've had bigger battles in your life than fantasy baseball. I know that and you know I know that. I remember when we brought Napoleon McCutchen in to speak at our 2004 NFFC event and you got to meet him and talk with him. He was a FANTASTIC speaker and what he said hit home with you, I know that. Those were fun days when we had guest speakers. Hell, maybe I'll do that again in the future. That was special.

I'll address the draft boards, but you are correct on what you said. We found a trick to blow up the early rounds of the boards and we used them that way AFTER the Main Event. It's in the resolution of the laptops. By displaying the boards this way now and investing in HD projectors, it will make a huge difference. It's not the technology that isn't working, it's the way we are using the technology. We'll get it right and so your post is accurate.

I'll post about the draft boards in a separate thread so that all good ideas and comments can be done in one spot. But I thank you for your feedback here.

It was nice to finally meet the infamous Walla Walla in Vegas this weekend. I would have never guessed it was you though John. I imagined a grumpy old curmudgeon who would go around sneering making a whole lot of "harrumph" type sounds when approached. Instead, all I saw out of you were ear to ear smiles. :D

Good luck this year with your teams and it was a pleasure.

Promise me you'll come again next year, John. Now that we 'know' each other, I don't wanna miss a chance to see you.

Glenn, John must have been on his best behavior. Nobody does a better "Hurrumph". :D
