As soon as I find a rabbi or priest who knows about Jason Kipnis, I'm there!
That poor sombitch could be in for an earfull.

This thread is the biggest self pity thread in the history of the nfbc. Some of you guys are getting soft. "Misery loves company"
And then Others are posting to inflict maximum pain on others
What a train wreck!! LOL

I asked, in my original question, what the purpose of the thread was and if we were going to post every injury for the entire year, which apparently we are. I agree that it is definitely a way of dealing with it and I do agree that this has been a bad injury year. To me, it just appeared as if it was more of a race as to who can post the injury first (DH winning most of the time, at least he gets to win at something

). I never meant to criticize the guys who were trying to grieve. Sorry if I said it in a critical way. I will pray for you.

I completely agree Mark. To prove your point, I copied and pasted the softest self pitying post to date as follows

Maybe this will make people feel better when they see this one. My partner and I drafted this team earlier this year (believe it was Jan/Feb). It was before any of these guys were hurt
Kershaw
Uehara
Robertson
Fister
Kazmir
T.Walker
Had to cut carlos martinez this week

The thread is harmless and amusing.
It's not like we're listening to my Aunt Ruth talkin' 'bout her rheumatism, arthritis, and how hard it is to walk with her joints.

Glenneration X wrote:To me these injury posts aren't excuse making. They also aren't requests for advice. I think anyone who antes up hundreds or thousands of dollars for a fantasy baseball hobby kinda knows already without being told that their season isn't over because of an April injury and that in-season management is an available tool to try to survive an injury onslaught until their wounded return. To me being told that feels a bit condescending.
These posts are nothing more than venting, a release. After all, who else are we going to vent to? My pitcher blows up and I tell my wife and she looks at me with a blank stare. I tell friends or family that don't play the game and I get a confused look. So we tell each other, those others on the boards, those who would/should understand the frustration we are dealing with. I mean if you can't vent about a fantasy baseball injury on a fantasy baseball board, where else are you going to go? Your priest or rabbi? They'd probably give you that same blank stare you get from your wife.
I love this thread. I love these posts. I love making them. It's a fantasy baseball board. These are fantasy baseball issues. Like I said, where else ya gonna go?
PS...how about our Mets Bud!!! I think it's the '69 or '84 rise from the ashes revisited!!!

This is how I look at it. I feel guilty about making my wife listen to roto baseball talk and I need the time I spend with religious professionals to attain absolution for my countless transgressions against humanity. That means you - and by "you" I mean those of you who
choose to click on this thread - get to listen to me bitch sometimes.

How would you classify this comment?
"It almost seems like the best path to victory now is to be the most fortunate owner and miss out on the incredible number of injuries. This has always been a key component every year. I've been hurt by injuries just like everyone else. This week I Lost uehara, Cobb and maybe kazmir in AL auction. C..."

My mother is 88. She loves the Yankees. Even more than Jeopardy. When they took out Pineda the other night, she asked "What's wrong with his neck"? I told her he's fine, it's just pine tar. She said "he doesn't look fine." I told her yesterday that Pineda went on the DL. She said, "I told you so."

The way most injuries play out:
1) Player leaves game with injury. Announcers in booth say they don't want to speculate on what's wrong. Proceed to speculate for rest of broadcast, punctuated by disclaimers about why speculating is wrong.
2) Team announces minor injury. Declares player day to day.
3) Player confirms injury is minor and says he should be back out there in a day or two.
4) Team announces injury is a bit worse than expected, but player should avoid DL.
5) Player confirms this and vows he will not go on DL.
6) Player goes on DL. On Monday evening.

Well, here is one other option...
Just don't invite Gekko to the pity party...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Just heard online the Pineda injury (back muscle) is being attributed to straining to reach back too aggressively to make contact with the pine tar on his neck.

The six stages of grief....
1. Shock
2. Denial
3. Anger
4. Sadness/Depression
5. Numb
6. Acceptance
Shock-
WTF? That's the third player in two weeks! This can't be happening to me!
Every time I look at Roto World, I think they're going to tell me my player is doing great. This just can't be!
Denial-
Maybe they're wrong about the time frame. That's it! He won't be out longer than 15 days. He SAID he wouldn't!
His team SAID he wouldn't. The MRI will show nothing.
Anger-
This sucks! How do I make a friggin lineup with Goins instead of Kipnis?
What?
Goins was sent down?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I'm never playing this friggin' game again!
Sadness/depression
Dear Message Boards, I've lost my best players. Nobody has had it tougher than me. I spent $1600 for this?
I'm in 14th place in my league.
The 15th place team sat by me at the draft and I swear he was looking at my lists. Serves him right.
Dumbass. Cheating off the dumbest kid in class.
Numb-
Y'know, its been two weeks since I looked at my lineup.
Maybe I should take a look. Aw screw it, I'll do it later.
Acceptance-
I can't wait for the draft room to open!
This year is going to be different!
Last year was just bad luck! Could have happened to anybody!
It can't happen to me again! Odds are on my side.
Woo hoo! Draft room is open!
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I'm looking forward to the post where the 12-Steps to Recovery from Fantasy Sports are outlined.
Especially where you explain how I can make amends.

Heck, it could be a much longer process than 12 simple steps. It could take a lifetime to recover.
