C.J. Cron

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Mon May 05, 2014 11:00 am

There was a wide variance in Main Event bidding for C.J. Cron.
Cron went for as little as $46 in one league to over $300 in another.

What is the consensus?
Is he a player not to get too excited about? A possible rental?
Or is he a mainstay in a lineup that will even get better with a Josh Hamilton return?

Cron is a Very Good hitter and is ready for the majors - the last few games are not a mirage. IF the Angels continue to play him at DH/1B with Pujols and not disrupt his spot in the lineup when Hambone returns he will be well worth the FAAB spent this weekend.

And I agree that the bids were all over the place - I got him for $211 in one league where I had the spot for him and was fine even if we overpayed by a hundred. In another league I didn't have a convenient spot but bid $69 and am glad to have to make room for him at that price.

:geek:
In the 3 FAAB leagues I have access to, Cron went for $121 in the 15-teamer, $37 in one 12-teamer and was not bid on in the other 12-teamer.

If he's has a good week, I'll expect to be one of the crazy high bidders for him in that Primetime league next Sunday.

In my Main Event league, I won him with a bid of $124. There was a runner-up bid of $83, so it wasn't much of an overpay.

I also won him at $68 in a 12-team satellite league. There was no runner-up bid, so I guess it was quite an overpay. :?

Frankly, I need power in both leagues, especially my Main Event league, where I am dealing with a bunch of injuries, including Trumbo. Thus, I was willing to take a chance on Cron. I think he has the potential to rake and knock a few out, and if he performs decently, he should stay in the lineup over Ibanez, who is hitting around .150. That being said, I also wouldn't be shocked if he struggles out of the gate and gets relegated to a platoon, or worse. Given that I had yet to invest big in FAAB in either league, I thought it was worth a gamble. Time will tell, but I am hoping that the Angels would not bring this kid up from the minors to sit on the bench and, therefore, will look to get him at bats, at least for some reasonable amount of time. After that, he will need to earn his playing time on the field.

ibanez was a worthy experiment but get this kid in there and see what he can do. the guy he is replacing is hitting 130 so he should have a lot of rope to play with.

id be thrilled with trumbo part 2 and thats what i envision for Cron. i just wish he could get some OF looks too! I went with a $112 bid in 2 15 team sat's and won him in both. had runner ups of $84 and $68.

Cron doesn't have anything close to Trumbo power. Should hit for better BA but his plate discipline is terrible.

Hmm well i just based it on minor lg numbers that each has put up. each player seem fairly similar on paper. each is listed as the same size and weight. their batting averages are similar in the minors. their k/bb ratio is similar till trumbo got into AAA then he started to K more. so based on minor lg numbers (and crons are extremely limited) it seems cron has a better eye on paper, but trumbo did seem to take more walks so thats certainly a point in his favor. it worries me that you think he has WORSE plate discipline than trumbo as trumbo has never been known as someone with any plate discipline! ha.

ill take your word regarding power as i havent seen much of cron yet... but everyone's first night with him was a bummer. what was worse than the 0-3 was the late pinch hit by ibanez. i didnt see the specifics but i dont like that at all.

Probably an isolated incident, but can't imagine it's a positive that the Angels pinch hit Ibanez for Cron last night.

Scioscia going for L/R matchup
(maybe especially since Cron was hitless last night)

3-4, 2 2b, and a rbi in a game when nobody else did squat.. sitting today for old fart ibanez.

why will some managers just never admit that their lineup isnt working. what the hell is going on with atl? sure it sounded like a good idea to hit heyward at the top but it aint working, that lineup isnt working. heaven forbid you actually managed and changed it. same here. i mean come on angels. i guess ibanez needs his ab's but he is very far from the answer. last years homers were a mirage.. its CRON time.
