Sitting Prince Fielder

Post by Deadheadz » Mon May 12, 2014 4:57 pm

:?
After a long discussion with my friend (the mayor of Toronto) I've decided to put CJ Cron in my Util spot and sit David Ortiz.

I've got Pujols at 1B and Votto at CI. How long til Cron gets OF eligible?

Seems like I've got this game all figured out.

Thanks, Buddy. Papi is sure to go off big now. I will mention you (in passing) during my speech after winning it all. ;)
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Took Ortiz after McCann and right before Cingrani, Latos and Minor.
How do you think this team is doing?

Dead - I'm in your league and don't like that move at all. Looks like Oritz's numbers are very solid, as expected, and he's hit in 9 of the last 10 games. You spent $24 on him. He has to play.

Give me the proven veteran over today's flash in the pan rookie, all day, every day, and twice on Sundays.

Forgive me, but I kept Ortiz active this week in the auction league.
It was only in the Primetime league that I benched him over the newly acquired CJ Cron.

I just liked four games in hitters parks vs three in a pitchers park. Papi should be back in for the weekend.

Who cares where one was drafted vs the other. But over a full season overthinking will likely dilute your performance. Day trading sure is thrilling until you're broke.

Four options for three slots. I'll play the best matchups every time. 95 percent of the time Ortiz has the best matchup and if he's raking he'll stay in even with a bad matchup.

He was in vs Darvish.

If I always took the advice of my competitors, I'm pretty sure I'd always lose.

I actually like it for exactly what you described...4 days in a hitter park versus 3 days in a pitcher's park.

It's no different from starting a mediocre pitcher with two favorable matchups and benching a stud pitcher pitching at Texas.

the real issue is spending an early draft pick on a DH to then sit him the beginning of May ;)

No, the real issue is why would you bid on Cron in FAAB when you have Pujols, Votto and Ortiz using up the only three slots where you could put him.

I suppose I'm keeping a good player away from my opponents by grabbing Cron. It would be a shame to see all those stats go to someone else.

Glad he's still active in all my other leagues where I drafted (or won) him.

Sometimes you gotta tempt fate to spark these guys!
Anyone consider he might be motivated by facing his old team back in Minny? It's a treat for his longtime fans to be sure.

Playing Cron over Papi was poor judgment. All the facts you stated were accurate except the Angels were playing in Philadelphia where there was no DH.

Poor judgment = Mike Scioscia playing John MacDonald at 2B and Grant Green in the OF while Cron sits.
Green is better in the infield and Cron can play OF.

My friend, love the strategy. Next time you want to sit a player we have in common, please feel free. ;) 8-)

Another HR for David Ortiz, he's at 10 now.

Just sit a guy for three games and the fantasy gods will say FU every time!

You're welcome, Papi owners!!

As I watch Big Papi circle the pillows AGAIN, this thread makes me chuckle. Its the type of s*#%* I usually pull and get burned and it'll make ya rip out your hair. The reasoning sounds logical, except for the fact that Anaheim wont have DH playing in Philly ( a minor detail Im usually not smart enough to factor in),and then sure enough 4HRs. Ouch. This is exactly why Ive taken more of a macro approach to setting of line-ups and just put my best players in and let them play regardless of match-up. I feel your pain DH and admire you putting this out there for all to see.

:o
Papi w/ 4HR and counting

Cron will have to have a helluva game Thursday vs Tampa to catch up.
Sat Khris Davis in the same league but it hasn't helped.
To add to the frustration, I dropped David Murphy to get Cron. Murphy has 5 hits tonight

My only team w/ Butler is on ESPN where he plays only on days when VMart has no game. Been drooling over Martinez gaining 1B eligibility so Butler can go in. Grabbed him off waivers.

Here's a poll:

Who should I sit Friday-Sunday to spark their performance?

Votto
Pujols
Owings

(already sitting Bogaerts with minimal uptick)

Ortiz is going back in...and he'll probably get a day off due to exhaustion.
