Johnny Cueto Domination

Post by BK METS » Thu May 15, 2014 1:16 pm

Has there been a more "under the radar" dominant pitcher, for the first 8 weeks of the season? He leads the majors in ERA, WHIP, Strikeouts, and innings pitched. Has pitched 7+ innings in every start and 2 shutouts. He has pitched without much offense behind him and has only won 4 games.

He does tend to get off to good starts, but so far this year, he has been dominant. I wish I had him on more than 1 team, but whoever does have him, likely got him after the 10th round and is loving his early production. For anyone that has regularly seen him pitch, is he doing anything different this year? He is throwing 93-94 MPH, not overpowering stuff. Today's game aside, he has played a few decent offenses, so it isn't just his opponents not hitting.

He's great. No doubt. And he's been incredible this year. Love him.

He also has a .160 BABIP against and a 99.5% Strand rate this year, which, if it held up, means he's would be the luckiest SP in baseball history, since both would be ML records.

Stated another way, he's given up 10 runs and 7 HRs, and (I believe) only 1 run has been scored against him on a non-HR.

I've seen him pitch a couple of times this year and on more than one occasion I've heard both Thom Brennaman and Jeff Brantley mention how he is turning his body more this year like Luis Tiant. I honestly don't really remember how he pitched in the past, or if it's any different, but he does hide the ball well and is really fooling hitters with speed change
